4 out of 5 eggsRight Price - RIght Features...

Pros: DD-WRT Support! (Read carefully...)
Dual Band
Great Price (if on sale)
AP Mode with DD-WRT

Cons: Residential Gear
Lack of GigEthernet (10/100 only)

Other Thoughts: Used this for a few weeks as a placeholder while I moved. I needed a basic router until I moved my pfSense box to my new place, but still needed remote access to my DVR. Stock interface is "fisher-price" level (My First Router). Pain to do custom NAT Entries.

After I moved, DD-WRT ended up on this to help a friend out with extending his network. Used his Linksys Dual Band as his Root-AP, DHCP, & otherwise gateway, then put the Netgear 5Ghz Radio in a bridge mode (5Ghz point-to-point) and used the 2.4Ghz Radio to provide connectivity to clients. Saved us the trouble of running a cable between the two devices since I am using the 5Ghz instead.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Wireless Router

Pros: This is a very nice router. I've other Netgear routers and had issue with them, I updated the firmware and then installed the router, not an issue, I like it so much, I purchased another one a few days later.

Cons: None that I have noticed

Other Thoughts: Definitely can not beat the quality and for that price, WOW

5 out of 5 eggshappy so far

Pros: Lots of features (dual band, USB, traffic monitoring) for the price

Cons: * The GUI hasn't really changed since I got my first Netgear router over 10 years ago. I appreciate the need for uniformity but it looks a little stale.
* The traffic monitoring section is a little clunky. I would like to see per-MAC stats so I know it's my TV using up 20% of my bandwidth for example, not just the total count inbound and outbound
* Only supports non-free dyndns.org for dynamic DNS

Other Thoughts: I bought the refurb model and it looks brand new. The only way anyone would know it wasn't new was the lack of serial number. Easy to set up, both 2.4GHz and 5GHz worked with no issues and it supports all the usual features.
Improvements I'd *love* to see:
1) better traffic management options
2) way to view packets on the device (interface to tcpdump from the GUI)

5 out of 5 eggsGreat router & price, easy setup!!

Pros: very easy to set up, all i did was connect it to my laptop and modem, set up username and password and done. took less than a minute.

Its decently fast for what i paid. cosmectically looks nice.

so far im impressed, great bang for the buck.

Cons: As of now, nothing.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a decent router, even for gaming this router it will do. I onyl paid 24$ and its the best deal i could of had for a router, my other router doesnt compare to this one. very happy with the results.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: No pros about this unit. This belongs in the trash.

Cons: The suckage of this device knows no bounds. I spent about 20 minutes configuring this to the way I wanted, it worked for about 30 minutes lost internet connection, then I couldn't connect to it via my wired laptop. Tried updating the firmware but it would not take. What a waste of time. Item runs very hot.

Other Thoughts: Please don't troll me Netgear techs. I should have known this router was a dud with all the damage control you guys are running in the comment section

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsNeeds to be cool

Pros: Fast, reliable, cheap.

Cons: I found I had to put a small $7.00 fan up against it.
I was having dropped connections until I did that.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent range

Pros: - Excellent range.
- Easy set-up.
- Simultaneous Dual Band
- Good value for money.

Cons: - If you are buying this for DD-WRT, be aware that you might get a revision which isn't compatible.
- New firmware contains a minor bug where text next to some check boxes isn't displayed correctly.

Other Thoughts: I was hoping to receive a V1 to put DD-WRT on it but I received a V2 instead. There is an un-official DD-WRT build for V2 but it is a risk.

5 out of 5 eggsReliable Dual Band for a Recertified Unit

Pros: -True Simultaneous Dual Band
-Reliable performance for nearly a dozen devices
-Fast network speeds
-Covers basement/first floor/second floor of average size home easily
-Cheap Cheap Cheap

Cons: -Needs the occasional hard reset but what doesn't
-Light on side of router is really bright and annoying but under a desk or under some tape its not gonna bother anybody... until it calls down the mothership but hopefully that won't be for a while

Other Thoughts: Never had any trouble connecting any devices to this router. At any one time this might have 4 iPhones, an old iPod, an Android phone, Xbone, 2 laptops, etc. all with no problems. Networks speeds are good considering the cable connection its running on, with a definite speed boost when running on the 5Ghz band.

1 out of 5 eggsStopped working after a month

Pros: None

Cons: The router is big. The interface is hard to navigate. I requested a refund few weeks after I got it because the wireless signal was dropping constantly. Newegg gave a gift certificate and told me to keep the router. I tried to plug the router few days ago. Sadly it did not power on. I am glad I requested the refund before the return period ended.

Other Thoughts: This is the first and last time I buy a Netgear product. I tried to troubleshot the wireless issue with customer service. Their solution was to return the product to the store. As I said before, the router stopped working completely after 30 days. I replaced this router with a Cisco (Linksys) router (N-signal supported) that I found at the thrift store for $2.50 and I loved it.

Manufacturer Response:

We are very sorry for the way support handled your case. Most WNDR3400s have a lifetime warranty attached to them, so if you have any problems you can get support or a replacement if needed.

Sorry to hear you have returned the WNDR3400-- we you will consider us again in the future.

Regards,

NETGEAR Team
