4 out of 5 eggsOnly 2 LED works

Pros: Really good for this price! Works good, no problem so far.

Cons: Only 2 blue LED lights works in the top dome. I don't know it means that this is a defective one or this is just normal. But I found many pictures says it should come with 8 LED lights working.

Other Thoughts: All in all, great choice for this price.

4 out of 5 eggsv1 so genis not compatible

Pros: easy set up, double bands, works great so far.

Cons: the one I got is a v1 so it is not compatible with some of the features in Genie software. thus 4 stars.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great little Router. No problems at all. I received version 2 router which kind of bummed me out because I planned on running DD-WRT but this baby is running so good i'm not disappointed at all. 2.4 and 5k both have descent range. Best of all it only cost me $10.69 shipped.

Cons: None

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent deal when on sale

Pros: Excellent price on sale. I got a few for my house and friends for 10 dollars each. It doesn't get better than that for simultaneous dual band routers. Router casing (at least the top and bottom black panels but not the clear plastic side band) appears to be brand new even though it is refurbished on the inside. Routers work pretty well.

Cons: Routers run hot. Do not stack your internet boxes or keep it on a PC case top exhaust port. This unit will drop wireless connections if it gets too hot.

Refurbished routers seem to be a mix of hardware revisions. I got some V1 routers (clear dome like the picture) and some V2 routers (blue opaque dome). The V1 is compatible (as of now) with DD WRT while V2 is not. DD WRT seems to make the router a lot more stable but it is not guaranteed you will get one that works with it.

Other Thoughts: Wireless speeds sometimes drop seriously even when not overheating because of a bug. Make sure to turn off 20/40 coexistence in the options if you're using the stock firmware as it seems to slow things down if you're in an area with lots of routers like my apartment. Increased speed from 1-2 mbps to 50+ instantly.

5 out of 5 eggsFabulous device!

Pros: Range and speed are very good.
NAS feature is wonderful. I have several multiterabyte drives connected with a unpowered usb 2 hub and smb access with windows file sharing is flawless.
The unit barely gets warm.
All the configuration options you could want.
I have had many devices connected at once with no problem. I stream high res music from it all the time.
Ridiculously low price. It's a gift. I ordered a second as a spare!

Cons: More granular nas acces control would be nice, but at this price it's awesome!

Other Thoughts: I don't know why so many reviewers are having problems. Mine is perfect. Netgear is a real company. I asked them about overheating issues and they said if that happens they would replace it. I suspect that for every bad review there are thousands of happy users that don't write reviews!

1 out of 5 eggsInconsistent at best

Pros: When it works, no complaints - the other 80% of the time I can't decide if it's Cox cable, or Netgear that's the culprit.

Cons: If you like choppy video, dropped connections and constant buffer wheels spinning - this one's for you!

Other Thoughts: I've swapped out my modem with Cox and bought this thinking I would solve my slow connection speed - was I wrong. Range is no better than my old Belkin 56mbps router, but when it's working speed seems better, but totally inconsistent. I get ranges from 2-20 mbps - sweet!
We have 2 ipads, 2 smartphones, 2 laptops, but not all going at once, so there's no reason this isn't kicking it. I have latest firmware and maybe that's my problem. I've changed channels, gone round and round with modem settings and have yet to get fast and consistent speed for longer than a few hours at a time. Time to call support if it will do any good. Not happy.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsblinky lights

Pros: Easy setup, good range, dual band in one box is nice

good price. Very stable so far.

Cons: too many blinky lights.

In addition to the standard LEDs, there are under the plastic 'dome' on the top of the device 8, yes, 8 blue LEDs that flash away all day and night long. Pretty annoying. I ended up taping black construction paper over it.

Other Thoughts: boy, it sure would be nice to have a feature to turn those darn lights off. Call it 'night mode' and I'd even pay more for a

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Performance

Pros: Dual Band
Improved UI
Simple Setup
WPS works well
Stable

Cons: Unable to get iphone 4S to work with the 2.4GHZ and 5.0GHZ sharing the same SSID. All other devices were happy though. I ended up splitting it into two SSID and it was fine.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Pretty nice router for the proce! Was able to get it for only 25.99 with a special promo code. This version supports DD-WRT which is a big plus for me! I have used DD-WRT on every router I have used and it works perfectly on this router!

Cons: It does not have gigabit ethernet ports. Not only is it a letdown to ethernet users but there is no point in having wireless N over 150mbps since the ports are limited to 100mbps. It is 5GHz which can reach up to 300mbps on this router, but once again, it is limited to the 100mbps ethernet ports so it is pointless.

Other Thoughts: This is a decent router. I bought it to use as a second access point around the house. It works great for that unless you want speed. (read cons). The only advantage of the 5GHz band is less interference with other routers or devices. No speed gain on this router! :(
