4 out of 5 eggsGreat for price

Pros: Very good router for the price. Lots of features, and for the most part does what it says. Signal isn't phenomenal but I am in a dorm room now and it works well even if im 2 rooms down after 3 rooms it drops in quality significantly,

Cons: The only con I have is that sometimes when making changes some of the changes would reset back to defaults randomly but I think it had to do with the nature of the fact that I was doing intricate things like mac cloning and it was a little buggy.

Other Thoughts: I have atleast 4 or 5 devices connected at a given time and haven't noticed any problems but with that said the work I am doing in my dorm isnt very demanding and the schools internet is slow to begin with.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat So Far

Pros: I have never been a Netgear fan, but this router may change my mind. Since I have installed this router my range is farther with stronger signal and I have not had a wireless network drop. I have put some pretty intense traffic through this router and it has been rock steady with no drops. I love the USB connection. I now have my external hard drive shared to the entire network. I love the gigabit connections, which is why I upgraded to this router.

Cons: You will need to upgrade the software right away. The Genie app installs automatically on your computer. The readyshare cloud is not available on this model, but I believe there is a way around that.

Other Thoughts: Over all this is a great router so far. I would recommend it, especially for the price.

3 out of 5 eggsFine while it lasted

Pros: * GUI and setup
* Gigabit ethernet
* Guest network and privacy settings

Cons: * Not consistently powering USB drive (see Other thoughts)

Other Thoughts: At around 2 years of age, the power switch failed. Turns out it does not need to boot up after the modem, so a little duct tape was able to overcome the loss of a power button--tape holds the button in, and all seems well....except that it is not providing consistent power to the attached USB drive (occasional clicking indicative of not enough power--could be upstream of the router, but could be related to the power switch).

Then at around 28 months of use it started occasionally dropping the internet connection: Connection page (from Status page) indicated disconnected; pressing Connect does indeed connect). At 30 months, it reset itself to factory defaults (save your profile!) and started dropping the internet connection more often. New router on the way...

4 out of 5 eggsUpgraded old router

Pros: Needed to upgrade my old router to have Gigabit ports to connect NAS box. With all the good reviews I knew I could not go wrong with this choice. The old router was refurbed too and still doing it's job fine after 4 years, so the special offer came up just when I needed it.

Nice GUI, easy to navigate.

Used the same network name and password from the old router, so transition was a breeze.

Cons: I expected better signal strength, but did not get an improvement over the old router.

Face plate came scratched, but not a big deal.

Other Thoughts: Had to upgrade firmware, but that is very easy to do.

5 out of 5 eggsNo Regrets

Pros: I decided to try this out, and have been happy with that decision ever since. Let alone open source support, you have usb storage, and excellent signal strength making this ideal for any network.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsNETGEAR WNR3500Lv2: no complaints

Pros: Externally attractive router! Physical on/off switch. Physical button toggles WiFi. Convenient browser interface makes setup easy; the software interface also contains features such as WiFi toggle and a schedule to enable WiFi at specified times and days of the week. Password-protect and prevent access to specified addresses or filter content via OpenDNS (implemented in firmware). Enable easy secure connections to WiFi for your guests/etc. with compatible hardware via the WPS button on front of router. A USB port on the rear face of the router can be used to enable access to the contents of flash drives/etc. with or without exposing your LAN.

Cons: None discovered yet.

Other Thoughts: All pros and cons based on my experience with the refurbished WNR3500Lv2 I was sent and am using now. I updated to the newest NETGEAR firmware and have not yet tested any alternative firmware options, nor have I yet tested the flash drive USB port or the WiFi connection beyond noting its presence in the lists of external devices when WiFi is enabled and absence in those lists when the router's WiFi is disabled.

My primary need was for a fast-enough wired interface available between my PC and the modem/wireless device on the roof which connects to the router by way of a Power Over Ethernet device inside. This router provides the available interface without delay (if it is turned on and given time to establish a connection prior to the OS' attempt to access the network) and the bootup sequence is smoother because the OS doesn't have to negotiate the connection before use.

1 out of 5 eggsRefurbished Netgear WNR3500lv2

Pros: The first one I bought works.

Cons: Port lights stay solid.

Other Thoughts: This is the second WNR3500L I bought from newegg. The first one worked fine. I bought this one so I would know when my kids are using the internet by looking at the blinking port lights. This router hooked up fine to the internet. But, the port lights stay solid.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Anonymous,

We are sorry to hear that you are having trouble with one of the WNR3500Ls. We recommend getting in contact with Newegg and asking for a replacement.

5 out of 5 eggsso far so good

Pros: 1. cheapest gigabit WAN/LAN router I could find.
2. install was painless. Upgraded to latest Netgear firmware easily.
3. 55 Mbps in from Comcast, 55 Mbps out to computer -- no real throughput loss. I was losing about 6 Mbps with my old WPN824v3.

Cons: 1. USB transfers are slow. This is a potentially great bonus feature, which seems to be poorly implemented. Copied to it at 6.3 MB/s and from it at 4.8 MB/s. Over 4 times slower than putting the stick in a computer USB port.

Other Thoughts: I have no interest in the 3rd party firmware. I bought this to improve my broadband throughput and to have gigabit WAN/LAN available and that is what I got. The unit I received is a v2, which is what I wanted because of the larger RAM. I have had good luck with Netgear refurbs over the years, so I took that leap of faith again. It is doing what I wanted , so 5 stars.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat router

Pros: Works very well with dd-wrt, although I was able to load only vpn image due to 8 GB flash (dd-wrt eko image train).
This is WNR3500L-100NAR v1 (8 GB flash) works both with dd-wrt and tomato firmware.
The very similar model WNR3500L-100NAS v2 (128 MB flash) which I own too works only with tomato firmware (I used Shibby tomato firmware; works great - probably the best tomato firmware). dd-wrt for WNR3500L-100NAS v2 is "under construction" and I am not sure when it will be available.
Tomato firmware is available only for Broadcom chipset routers (Netgear, Asus, Linksys). Before you buy a router you have to check if the particular hardware revision of the a router is supported by dd-wrt or tomato. Router vendors change the chipsets quite often without listing this info in specs.

Cons: none
