5 out of 5 eggsPC, Mac and Android phone like it

Pros: Easy setup on PC, Mac laptop picked it right up - and gets full data rate, that doesn't happen on some brands - and it's working with an iPhone, iPad, and an Android phone, too. I have another brand that works fine, but only with the PC and Android phone, so I'm really happy with this router. Good Netflix streaming, too.

Cons: It took a long time (a few minutes on some steps) to complete the setup steps; easy enough to follow the setup instructions, just really slow doing it. I had one that did the setup steps quite fast, but failed several setups before it succeeded; at least this one worked the first try. Once the setup is done, works as fast as any I've used. The wifi comes back on in seconds if you've turned it off with the switch. Once setup, I have no complaints about it.

Other Thoughts: It has an off switch for wifi; don't know if that makes a big difference, but haven't seen that on a router before. Supposed to save energy; so I shut it off when I'm finished for the day. I can still stream Netflix on direct wire while wifi is off.

The router this one replaces needed a manual reset just about every day, sometimes 2 or 3 times; this one hasn't gone offline yet, and I'm hoping it never will. It shows 65 mb/sec and rates the signal excellent, something I never saw with previous routers. I suspect that's the best I'm going to get with the equipment it's working with. Nothing slows down while streaming Netflix in HD on a TV and on a laptop, while downloading large files on a PC; for a home unit, I feel that's doing very well.

4 out of 5 eggsVery Solid Router

Pros: - Connection is extremely stable (no drops/issues so far in 4 months)
- Wireless dual band works great
- 5G connection is much better

Cons: - Range is a little low (it works for my 1200 sq ft. apartment, but connection is a little weak in one of the far corners)

Other Thoughts: I've been using this router for about 4 months now with great results. I've mainly used CISCO and LINKYSYS routers in the past, but decided to try out this NETGEAR one. I chose this one over the ASUS RT-N56U (which is about the same price), because of concerns over the unreliable customer service at ASUS.

4 out of 5 eggsGood router, but get it on sale

Pros: Great when it's on sale, supports multiple connections, UI is easy to use, gigabit

Cons: VERY short range on the 5 GHz, takes a long time to setup

Other Thoughts: Bought this on sale so I think it was a good value. It was a little difficult to setup, there were times where I thought it had frozen so I had to restart the setup process. When it finally did finish it took over 10 minutes. The average user would think that there would be a defect waiting around that long to get online. Instructions could be a little more clear as far as how long you should wait.

The 5 GHz frequency is nice, but VERY short range. In the next room within line of sight about 20 feet away I was only getting 1 bar of signal strength, but the 2.4 frequency works fine. Have plans to setup a gigabit network with file share so the USB port on the modem will come in handy when I attach an external hard drive.

1 out of 5 eggsHit and miss

Pros: Price and dual band. Also runs DD-WRT

Cons: Where to brgin. I bought this to replace a moto router which did not play well on my apple net. It worked 3 days.
Then the 5hz radio died. Soon after the other one followed.
I RMA'd it. This was stock firmware. The next one lasted a little longer but once again the radios went out. In desperation I flashed dd-wrt. This actually worked for awhile but then it too died. Its not the software. I think the batch of parts they built this from a bad.

Other Thoughts: I was just looking for a reasonably priced dual band router that I could flash perhaps.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Router!

Pros: *Easy Peasy Setup..No CD involved
*Tons of good options
*Love the Dual 2.4 and 5 Ghz and the Dual Guess network for 2.4 and 5 Ghz
*Stable with the connection.
I got this on sale to replace my Netgear 3400 which was good but I was hitting the roof with that. With all the devices connected to it along with the consoles, the Wifi part was struggling.

Cons: -Minor one here. it's just me but i like the flashing lights on the Netgear 3400 when the data was active. This device does not have it but that is minor

Other Thoughts: Note: The 5Ghz is good for phones and tablets. Unfortunately the PS3 and PS4 does not support 5Ghz. So keep that in mind. Dont forget to get the Netgear genie App..its really good.Besides that, Its a nice wifi router and i would recommend.

1 out of 5 eggsQuality

Pros: Initially, it was working great.

Cons: Only 90 days for phone support. Leak of quality for this product. My first one worked for 88 days and it's replacement lasted for 10 days.

Other Thoughts: I made a mistake of buying this router.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsIt Just Works

Pros: I had previously purchased what was perhaps Netgear's most expensive routers. It dropped connections (wired and wireless) all the time. I returned it and got this router (WNDR4300) that cost half the price. This one is much more stable than the other router I had purchased. Do not hesitate in buying this router.

Cons: It's not an AC router? ;)

Other Thoughts: Buy this router!

5 out of 5 eggsVery Good Router

Pros: I have had this router for several years now. I had been using Cisco/Linksys for a long time and thought I would try a different brand. This router has been problem free since installed it in my network. The management interface and firmware is comprehensive and does what it should per the instructions. I have not had to reset it periodically like I did with my older routers. Even if there is some electrical or network changes! Stable and steady is great in my book.

Cons: In over three years of ownership, I can't come up with any!

Other Thoughts: I normally don't post reviews due to my time constraints. People seem to post a review if their experience was not perfect. I thought I would post this one because this router has been so reliable for me. I'm buying NETGEAR next time!

2 out of 5 eggswifi fail

Pros: hard wire link could not ask for better

Cons: the wifi range is horrible i bought this unit because i was told it would work grate in my home for keeping my hole house connected. house is 2200 sq ft, the unit is in a prime spot for my open floor plan aswell the signal will not even go thro one floor directly above it consider all your options before buying all i have to say.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi holair,

We'd like to help. Can you tell us if you are seeing this poor range on the 5.0 GHz band, the 2.4 Ghz band, or both? 5.0 Ghz by nature won't provide as much range or signal penetration, especially in a larger home. Also, what firmware version are you running on the WNDR4300? What devices are you seeing this performance with, and how are you measuring the signal?

Please get in touch with us at newegg@netgear.com, we'll be happy to help.

Regards,

NETGEAR Team
