1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't Work as Expected

Pros: Connects Easily.

Cons: Does not stream video very well. The video and audio skip often to where it is too annoying to watch. Even though this device runs on Miracast (which is supposed to work with all Android devices after version 4.2), only the deices listed in their specs are supported. The device list is very short. If you don't have one of these devices, don't bother. When I contacted Netgear support, they said my device was not supported and would not offer any more help. Here are the supported devices: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/23982.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Anonymous,

Thanks for posting your review, and for the good words about the easy setup. We also appreciate that you attached the compatibility guide for other users. Can you get in touch with us directly and let us know which device you are using with the PTV3000?

You can reach us at newegg@netgear.com.

Regards,

NETGEAR Team

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great with Kindle HDX

Pros: Links to Kindle HDX 8.9 with no problem. Have device hooked to my Yamaha receiver, so HDMI audio code out stereo.

1 out of 5 eggsCAUTION

Pros: Easy to set up.

Cons: Does not work well with any device other than the ones listed in the specs, even though they all run basically the same software. I am using a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (Similar to the devices they have listed as compatible) and all videos skip often. Firmware is up to date and tech support has no fix.

1 out of 5 eggsSruface Pro 8.1 + PTV3000 doesn't work

Pros: Small. Great concept/idea.

Cons: -Doesn't work.
-Netgear claiming ignorance about this not working with Windows 8.1.
-$60 brick
-Can I give 0 eggs please?

Other Thoughts: Spent hours with Netgear support regarding not being able to get a fully patched Surface Pro (Windows 8.1) to connect to the PTV3000. The response was classic!

"Updating the Surface Pro from 8 to 8.1 may or may not work with the PTV3000 since the 8.1 is not pre-installed on the Surface Pro.."

In other words...Windows Update breaks our stuff.
Lame.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Anonymous,

We'd like to work with you further on this, as the PTV3000 is compatible with the Surface Pro. Some users have had luck with enabling Airplane Mode then disabling it; this seems to be a quirk in Windows that resets the adapter and allows the PTV3000 to work properly. If that doesn't help, please get in touch with us at newegg@netgear.com, with as many details as you can about how it isn't working and any troubleshooting steps you have tried. We want to help!

Regards,

NETGEAR Team

3 out of 5 eggsnot there yet

Pros: none yet

Cons: won't connect to multiple devices

Other Thoughts: I have a Sony Vaio that I use with the old PTV1000. It works great. I bought the PTV3000 because I also have an AT&T HTC One with Android 4.3 and a Kindle Fire HDX 8.9. I hooked up the device and updated the firmware. Now the laptop can't even see the device. My HTC One sees it and connects for about 5 seconds then drops and my Kindle Fire sees it and tries to connect but doesn't go any further. I tried downgrading the firmware, but none of my laptops can see it's SSID anymore. I just read that I can reset the factory defaults with a paper clip in a button on the bottom of the device. I will try that and start over. Very frustrating.

3 out of 5 eggsNot using this at all

Pros: Plugs in and sets up easily. Works great with my Samsung Galaxy S4, although I have no use for it to work with the phone at all

Cons: Using my Song Vaio laptop, it requires me to be in low graphics mode on WIndows 7. Update to Windows 8 no longer requires this, but is also no longer an option to worry about. Blinks in and out A LOT on the laptop. Have not tried it with other Intel WIDI devices technically, just the phone.

Other Thoughts: I don't use this and probably would it if wouldn't blink in and out all the time. Also, the delay was much higher than stated in the specs. In some cases up around 2 seconds

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Adam,

Thanks for the kind words on the easy setup, and we're glad to hear it works well with your phone. We'd like to help get the same experience for you on Windows 8. It sounds like while it does work in Windows 8, you are seeing some flickering issues. Can you tell us the exact version of the Intel WiDi software you are running as well as the firmware that is installed on the PTV3000? That will help us reach a solution for you. You can reach us at newegg@netgear.com, we'll be happy to help!

1 out of 5 eggsMove along, this is not the hardware you're looking for

Pros: it powers on

Cons: Worked poorly at first, (and only after I installed the recommended firmware update). After i installed the latest drivers and software the intel site recommended, it quit connecting. When I did get it to connect, the range was no more that 2 feet

Other Thoughts: A friend has the PTV2000 and spends hours trying to get it to work again after any piece is updated.
Flaky software, built like a house of cards, changes to a drivers, software or windows updates will break it bad. Won't connect to tv reliably, 1-2 foot range jerky, pixelated picture. After installing the latest versions of drivers and software, quit working altogether. Laptop software sees it, but can't connect. I'm using an HP Envy laptop.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi rascal,

Can you tell us which version of Windows you are running, and specifically which version of the Intel WiDi software is running? Also, the version of the driver you have installed? We'd like to work with you to get to the bottom of the issue, and this info will be helpful for our engineers and support team. We look forward to helping out!

NETGEAR Team

4 out of 5 eggsNifty Niche item: Follow Up

Pros: Still like it

Cons: See previous review

Other Thoughts: I did a firmware update. I wasn't happy with the TV picture afterwards. Resolution was down and the PUSH/Intel did not fill the TV screen. There is a utility included to increase/decrease the size of the picture but it wasn't enough even after I changed to the PUSH/Intel selected recommended resolution. I visited Intels site and while looking for a solution I saw that Intel has specific troubleshooting data for the PUSH. There is no doubt Intel and NETGEAR work closely together on the PTV3000. This explains how everything in the way of drivers and firmware needs updating initially. Keep your Intel and NETGEAR products synched, so to speak.

NETGEAR'S forum is still very bad. Too many posts have no Netgear solution and one post I read had what appeared to be a Netgear answer but I could make no sense out of the solution as it applied to the question. Too much flash and not enough substance at Netgear. Intel does a good job.

AND I rolled back my firmware on the PUSH. If you are wondering if you can do that...you can. After the roll-back the PTV 3000 worked to my satisfaction.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: none

Cons: not work with current devices

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Anonymous,

We apologize for the troubles and that the Push2TV isn't working for you currently. We'd like to help but we'll need some information on your system to start troubleshooting.

Can you tell us a bit more about what your setup?

- Which device were you using with the PTV3000? If a laptop, what was the OS/make/model/driver and software versions?
- If a smartphone or tablet, make/model/OS version?
- Was the device on the list of compatible devices?
- What is the firmware version installed on the PTV3000? Did you check for updates?
- What was the problem you experienced exactly?

You can reach us at newegg@netgear.com. We're happy to help.

Regards,

NETGEAR Team
