4 out of 5 eggsGood product with few misses

Pros: Amazingly small, noiseless, support power over TV's USB. Connects fast once the setup is done.

Cons: Setup somewhat complicated. I had trouble with the driver auto-detect Intel online app. The major con is the stability of the device. When it's been couple of days without connecting make the device freeze. I have to reboot it before being able to detect it.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid

Pros: Sometimes it works for 5 minutes or so

Cons: I've updated the device firmware and my widi drivers to the latest, and this thing still typically works for 5 minutes or less before it loses connection and the computer and adapter have to be restarted. Also, wifi often slows to dialup speeds when I'm connected to widi.

Other Thoughts: If it wasn't past 30 days, I would return this in a heartbeat. I couldn't test this when I got it because it wouldn't work with Windows 8 at the time. I can't remember the last time I was so frustrated with a piece of hardware.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Anonymous,

Thanks for your review and also for updating to the latest drivers/firmware -- we're very concerned that you're still having problems. We'd like to work with you directly to figure out what's happening and if a replacement is necessary.

We'd like you to email us at newegg@netgear.com with the serial number of your PTV3000 as well as the make/model of your main wireless router and the laptop/computer you are using, and we'll be in touch!

Regards,

NETGEAR Team

1 out of 5 eggsNot ready for prime time

Pros: small unit

Cons: have to update firmware out of the box, doesn't connect, too slow, very difficult to set up

Other Thoughts: Wow Android copied something from Apple; Pseudo Airplay on Android phones, tablets and Windows Laptops. Let me preface this by stating that it works on 'some' of these devices as the listed compatible device list is very small. I have two Android devices that are supposedly supported, but didn't work at all. After purchasing the 'tiny' device and connecting to power and an HDMI cable (Not included) the device displayed on the TV properly but would not connect to either of my devices; Nexus 4 and Galaxy Tab 10.1 So I went to the Netgear.com/stream site and downloaded the newest firmware and followed the tedious instructions, having to hold the button on the unit down for over 5 seconds while the unit loaded the firmware upgrading utility. Then I had to disconnect the Ethernet cable from my laptop and turn on wireless and log into an IP address 192.168.3.1, which didn't work until I disconnected the Ethernet cable, something they didn't mention in the instructions. I then selected the file that I downloaded, the unit did its thing, erasing, writing and verifying, and then rebooted itself. All seemed well.... but still could not connect to the unit. I contacted live chat through Netgear and the person walked me through the whole process over again, taking 5 times as long to complete sine I assume that he was helping others at the same time. PS it took 48 minutes to get someone to chat with, then another hour to complete what took me a few minutes prior to contacting support. HOW FRUSTRATING! the tech support guy eventually disconnected the chat before I was finished asking questions. I was so disgusted by they unit not being ready for public release that I just took it back, warning the store manager of the issues I faced, he also agreed that others all seemed to have problems with the units. what a waste of my time. You were warned, beware... PTV3000

4 out of 5 eggsUpdated to 2.2.12 and works much better

Pros: After all of the updates are installed this works pretty well.

Cons: MUST be updated to the latest version to work properly

Other Thoughts: I had posted another review indicating that the video performance was choppy and lagged. The latest update fixes that. So kudos to Netgear for staying on top of things and for responding to my review here.

3 out of 5 eggsOK for pics not so good for video

Pros: Once updated connects and works well for pics and sound and any slow moving video such as presentations.

Cons: Very choppy with lag for video which makes it difficult to watch. You must also update to the latest drivers.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsWorks with Win 8 now

Pros: Synchs well once set up. Rez looks good and usb power is a plus. firmware update has autoswitching for miracast. This is the windows / android equivalent of Apples AirPlay.

Cons: requires firmware update and software update on laptop/computer. Not for newbies to undertake. Issue with IE on firmware update, worked with Chrome.
Biggest con; I cant get back the 3 hours it took for me to do this entire process.

1 out of 5 eggsSUCKS DO NOT BUY

Pros: From what Ive read if you update firmware to beta's the miracast will work from your phone, supposedly works with Windows 7.

Cons: Spent over 8 hrs trying to upgrade firmware and download all the correct drivers for my computer. I even tried to use the beta drivers for the PTV3k. The Intel Widi App crashes my system continuously. I am so fed up with this item. This should have never been released to the public, it is no where near final form.

I meet all the system requirements.

Do not expect this to work with Windows 8 in current form.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Trebeck,

We apologize for the delay, but we wanted to let you know that we have recently released a software update for Push2TV (PTV3000) that addresses Windows 8 support and adds compatibility with many Miracast wireless display enabled smartphones including Sony Xperia T/TL/Z, Google Nexus 4, Samsung Galaxy S III, LG Optimus G and many more. We encourage you to try this software update.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great after tweaking Win 7

Pros: Good price compared to the PTV2000
Much more compact than previous P2TV adapters
USB power can be plugged into TV or Receiver USB port (so turns adapter off when TV or component off)
Has WiFi radio built in to upgrade firmware through a web browser
Looks great on-screen once set up and sound is as expected through digital HDMI

Cons: HDMI only (No composite)
Instructions Lacking
Requires update of all Intel WiDi, WiFi and WiMAX software
Requires firmware update immediately out of the box
ONLY connects if you "double click" the adapter name on your laptop WiDi software. Will not connect with the "connect" button within software. Weird and it will drive you crazy until you just double-click the adapter's name on the screen.
Unit seems to have just a bit more "lag" than previous generations (PTV1000 and PTV2000)

Other Thoughts: It took me two hours to get this up and running on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. First thing I did was update to the latest firmware (2.1.5 as of this writing). My two year old Sony Vaio with Intel ProSet Wireless and WiDi required updating the Wifi driver, the WiMAX drive and the WiDi software with the latest versions. After that I couldn't get it to connect at all when I selected "connect" from the WiDi software panel. Once I ditched the "connect" button and just double-clicked the adapter name it connected fine. I don't know if that is an Intel or Netgear problem. Curious how the "connect" button works fine with the PTV1000 and PTV2000. It's just the PTV3000 that requires the double-click selection workaround. Whatever. It now works fine.

1 out of 5 eggsWin 8 users ***BEWARE***

Pros: None

Cons: Does not work with Windows 8 systems

Other Thoughts: Netgear support advice; return product to store or downgrade your system to Windows 7.
They are working on a fix but do not know when the windows 8 driver will be available.
