Pros: excellent speed. my downloads a very fast.
i would not buy this router again.

Cons: 5g no longer works, this router only comes with 90 day warranty if you register with netgear. i cannot connect to 5g anymore.
when i try to connect to 5g it tells me saved & secured. but will not connect.

Other Thoughts: Having switched from a $40 router, when I first connected the R6250 the first thing I tested is the signal strength and range. I have a 50mbps down 25mbps up Optimum Online connection. The first test was performed 5 feet away from the router with a cheap $400 ASUS laptop. I was surprised to see that I was only receiving 50 percent signal strength. From 15 feet away line of sight I was only getting 35-40percent signal strength. 30 feet away through a thin wall the connection was unusable.On top of that when I performed a speed test 2 feet away from the router my max speed was about 3mbps. At this point I wasn't too worried as I had not configured any settings. I contacted NETGEAR just in case and they gave me a few tips on how to change and optimize the settings. After I did this I was looking at no improvement to the signal strength but improvements in speed up to 10mbps of my 50mbps. After a few exchanges with NETGEAR they told me to send it into Newegg to exchange it for a new one. I just returned it and got my money back.

Pros: It was a great router when it worked. It was fast and reliable.

Cons: It didnt handle my iPad that well.
After a year and 5 months, it died. No warning at all, it just died.

Other Thoughts: If you do buy this, get an extended warranty on it.

Pros: the third one worked the longest, about a year.

Cons: first unit died within a week so I returned for exchange thinking it's a fluke. it wouldn't give out any ip addresses. 2nd unit died within the 30day return window, so I exchange again. that was me being optimistic. third unit failed in the next month, now I'm stuck with it. I had to return it to manufacturer. the 4th unit lasted a year and now it has massive amounts of packet loss. 30%+ I had to start using the modem/router for now until I get a replacement. I will never purchase another netgear product again.

Other Thoughts: Bought two of these from Newegg for our new office of 7,000 sf. Possibly could have done with one, but due to wall, wiring, doors, etc, seemed better with two. Well-reviewed, and they work well. Was using somewhat older Airport Extreme previously which would inexplicably need to be rebooted periodically, and these haven't required that.

Still, I'd like to be able to hang them on the wall to get them out of the way and get the best coverage, but that's a minor point. They work well.

Pros: Fast LAN & Wireless (when it works). Shared USB port, multi bioses to choose from to get the best one you like. If you disable the router's QOS you will see a small gain in a speed test.

Cons: The hugest CON I have found is that the wireless on the unit will stop accepting connections. Not sure how long this takes to mess up or what causes it. I usually must reboot the unit about every 3-4th week per month. Most devices keep their connection, but new or resumed connections don't.

Other Thoughts: I am now getting the Asus ac1900 router to do a small upgrade and see if that holds wireless and allows new connections without reboot.

Pros: - Router Range is very good. Have no issues with picking up full connection in the whole townhome I live in.
- Router Speed, connection through AC I was receiving almost the same downloads speeds as my hardwire connection. I couldn't believe it. Wireless N, not as fast ofcourse, but still receiving 75% of the download speeds.
- Setup is so easy. I think my grandmother could figure it out.. She still lives in the stone age(no internet)..
- No annoying blinking LED's. The router has 3 basic lights they are bright enough to see but also won't light up your whole room.
- Genie APP is cool, you don't have to mess with going into deep rooted settings as if it was still 1990. Very user friendly and straight forward.
- Literally a plug and play type of router. I'd recommend it to anyone. Also its not super expensive, but I believe its also at least 5-8 year future proof. Most hardware technology will change significantly in that time.

Cons: Nothing as of yet. Besides the bottom being purple. I'd prefer a more manly color in my bachelor pad ;)

Other Thoughts: I'd recommend it to beginner and internet junky.

Pros: WiFi stability. We have a lot of devices on the WiFi network and this router has not had an issue handling the demand at all. This includes streaming Netflix, while listening to Pandora on another device and YouTube on a few other tablets. No issues. Definitely worth a purchase when on sale.

Cons: Couldn't get the hard drive to work on the usb which cost the rating one egg. I'm using an NAS on my wired network so not really a big deal for this house hold.

Other Thoughts: It looks nice on the shelf and doesn't have any crazy blinking lights on the front that I can see across the room. I prefer it like this.

Pros: Easy to set up. Clear instructions. Great aesthetics. Ethernet cable included. I experienced absolutely solid performance for each connection type (N, AC, Gigabit wired).

It comes preconfigured with a secure SSID and password. This is a handy way to help beginners use encryption to protect their wireless network from neighbors and passersby.

Product was packaged well, both to explain and protect the contents.

The LEDs are just bright enough to be easily seen, not annoyingly bright like I've experienced with other networking hardware.

The performance is very consistent. The unit has never needed a reset for any reason. I've never had a file transfer or internet stream hiccup. All of my devices (laptops, tablets, etc) were able to connect to it.

If you are shopping specifically for an AC router, this one would be a very good choice.

Cons: I compared the wireless file transfer speeds of my old N and new AC router for transferring both small files (collection of ebooks) and large files (HD video). I transferred them from one PC to another, on my home network. For my case, there was nearly no improvement in file transfer speed simply by replacing the router. My old wireless N router can still be purchased and costs half what this AC router costs.

Other Thoughts: The preset SSID and password are written on the unit. This sticker is super helpful for home use. However, if using this router in a semi-public place, make sure to change the password or remove/cover the sticker.

There is no wall mounting capability. I personally do not need this feature, but as most home networking devices are wall mountable, and Newegg does not list this feature in the specifications, I decided to mention it.

I think this is a very solid router. Its got great features, price, and performance. However, if you've already got a good Wireless N system, there may not be much reason to upgrade to AC.

While this is wireless AC hardware, and is technically capable of transfer speeds well over 800Mbps (100MB/s), most consumers' experience will be far slower. Factors like the performance of the computers using the router, the building materials (walls, furniture, etc) between router and adapter, and the types of files being transferred are what govern the real world experience.

I compared file transfer speed on my home network, from one PC to another, under various conditions. I then graphed and analyzed the results. My data included:
1) Distance from router (garage at 80ft vs same room at 5ft)
2) File size (collection of 0.5MB e-books vs 26GB HD video)
3) Router type (AC vs N)
4) Adapter type (internal N vs external AC)
5) Laptop type (old clunker vs modern mid-grade) (both laptops have USB 2.0 only)

The largest factor to file transfer speed was the file size. It is much more efficient to transfer large files. If the reason you are shopping for a router is because it takes you a long time to transfer collections of small files, consider zipping them for transfer.

The next biggest factor was distance from router. It was much faster to be close to the router.

The next biggest factor was AC adapter type. It was faster to have the external AC adapter. I am not sure whether the improvement was due to AC technology, or due to having an external antenna. Whichever was the case, it was clearly faster.

The next biggest factor was laptop type. It was slightly faster to transfer files using the newer laptop. I wish I could have included a laptop with USB 3.0 ports in my test.

The least important factor was the router type. I found the file transfer speed to be nearly independent of router type. To be honest, this result surprised me. I expected the AC router to be much faster when using an AC adapter, but this just wasn’t the case. Thank you statistics for helping me see past my bias!
For my situation, I could not see much performance improvement by using this router, as compared to my old wireless N router.

Pros: Great range. Great speed. Many options.

Cons: Not reviewed as a "top of the line" unit but I've had no problems and it meets all of my needs.

Other Thoughts: Client has six (count them, 6) Comcast wireless routers. None can reach any of his devices on a reliable basis. We purchase this unit and.... Everything works. Two Apple TVs, three iPhones, an iPad, Microsoft surface and three laptops. Plus the devices of their teenaged daughters friends. The guest network feature is a godsend for them.
