1 out of 5 eggsCan't detect 5Ghz

Pros: just OK to use for 2.4Ghz

Cons: Can't xx detected the 5Ghz with in 10 feet at all, I tried with so many so called "solutions", still no signals.
I'm running windows 7 on my desktop, nothing related to os issue( since many people complained about it's not working under windows 8).
In the same room, my smartphone can detect the 5Ghz and the connection has no problem.
and since it's a refurbished one, you don't have a serial number, which means you can't get help online with the customer service.
And when you call the customer service will ask you to buy other products or just buy a xxxx warranty so they can do some further help...

Meanwhile, the netgear software is running with bugs, updating drivers to 90% and get back to 70% and just loop over. You have to uninstall it and re-install.
And their engineers should learn more about UI design. The UI is so unfriendly and the help manual is useless.

I bought this solely for the 5Ghz speed, and it made me so upset when I spent hours and failed to fix it.

I didn't expect much from a refurbished product. But it's just the design and customer service is so bad.

It's not worth for me to get a replacement since I highly doubt the next one will work.

Just don't buy it.

4 out of 5 eggspretty good so far

Pros: It is pretty fast. On the ookla speed test it achieved 88mbps download and 90+ mbps upload but that is only if you have the right provider.

Cons: well it is refurbished. The adapter looked worn and had scratches. I cant find any real cons yet.

3 out of 5 eggsNetgear WNDA4100-B - Good For the Price

Pros: - Sleek Design
- Long Cable Extender to allow better placement of Wireless Adapter
- Software Drivers are Available as Stand-Alone.
- Fast Shipping.
- Does Detect 2.4GHz & 5GHz Signals.

Cons: - Unit was scratched.
- Minimal/No Instructions Included.
- No Driver CD Included
- Cannot Register Refurbished Product on Netgear Site.
- 30 Day Warranty of Replacement.
- Transfer speeds no greater than 7.5MB/sec (56Mb/sec) on USB 2.0
- Cannot send or receive simultaneous 2.4GHz and 5GHz signals.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this wireless adapter to use on a Laptop that did not have a 5GHz receiver/transmitter. This adapter does work for that purpose.

After going to the Netgear website and downloading the software and latest drivers on a flash drive. I installed the drivers easily on several workstations and a server to try this wireless adapter out. The literature claims that this is a N900 adapter capable of wireless transfer rates up to 450Mb/sec simultaneously on 2.4GHz & 5GHz bands. I was not able to get any of the workstations to either send or receive both bands simultaneously. None of the workstations or the server would operate when both 2.4 and 5GHz bands were enabled simultaneously using Windows 7-64 bit Pro OS. The signal reception on the 2.4GHZ band is good. The signal reception on the 5GHz band is mediocre to poor. It is worse than the reception using a HP Elitebook 8460p laptop in the same location.

I was never able to achieve wireless transfer rates anywhere close to what is stated by the manufacturer. When sending a single 3GB file from a server through a gigabit ethernet connection and an N900 Asus RT-N66U router to the Netgear WNDA4100 wireless adapter and into a laptop, the fastest download speed seen was 7.56MB/sec using a USB 2.0 port. It was slightly faster (8.06MB/sec) when using a USB 3.0 port. Upload speeds were slower. The maximum upload speed seen was 6.5MB/sec with the USB 2.0 port and 6.85MB/sec with the USB3.0 port. I tried the same test with the wireless adapter connected to the server and to another workstation. Results seen were similar. This data was for the 5GHz band where the Wireless adapter was approximately 2 meters (6 feet) from the wireless router.

In comparison, when transferring the same file but using the internal wireless adapter on the HP 8460p laptop, Transfer speeds were 11.2MB/sec download and 9.8MB/sec upload. This was approximately 50% faster than with the external Netgear WNDA4100-B wireless adapter.

The limitations on the wireless transfer speeds may be due more to the bus architecture of the PC's on which I tried this device, than on the wireless adapter itself. This is a real world situation and the equipment which I used to run the test were fairly current, if not leading/bleeding edge technology.

While the wireless adapter did work to send and receive signals on both the 2.4GHZ and 5GHz bands, it does not achieve transfer speeds anywhere close to the stated specifications. It can be useful for PC's that either have no wireless capability built in, or lack capability on the 5GHz band. If you have a wireless G capability currently, you may see a speed increase But the signal strength and range may disappoint you.

I expected more out of this adapter because of the specifications. For the Low Price that Newegg sold this for on sale, it was an ok purchase. Hence the 3 egg rating.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat deal

Pros: works perfectly fine
good reception, transfer speeds with the 3x MIMO
both 2.4 and 5ghz bands work well
nice touch to include the base for better positioning options

Cons: mine had a scratch on it, but it's refurbished and that's what you'd expect. no deductions for this really

Other Thoughts: I uses the manufacturer (mediatek/ralink) reference drivers, they tend to be newer than netgear's

1 out of 5 eggsREFURB NOT GOOD

Pros: Nice sleek design.

Cons: Maybe I should have purchased new and not refurb. I guess that's probably the reason it's refurbished, because it doesn't work. I tried to call Netgear support and couldn't understand the person on the other end at all. No more refurbished items for me.

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry that the refurbished unit did not work well. Buying new is always a safer option and you also get additional support.

We hope you will consider us again in the future.
