5 out of 5 eggsSeriously Powerful

Pros: Very fast
Killer range
Easy enough setup

Cons: Big and ugly

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace my DIR-655. I moved to a townhouse and the DIR-655 wasn't cutting it to get wifi from the basement to the top floor. So in a pinch I got a Nighthawk R7000 and I'm extremely pleased with it. There isn't a place in the house (or on the porch) that I don't get full bars.

It's also crazy fast. I was concerned having always used ethernet, but my wireless-AC iMac is flying with this thing. Setup was easy enough for anyone who knows what they are doing.

Finally, it's big and ugly, but I don't really care because it's doing what I need it to do well.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat router

Pros: Great router. just following up my previous review

Cons: The genie app will kill your internet speeds. I along with my brother own this router, and the app kills his and my internet after about 6 hours or so (it varies). It doesn't kill it completely, but will slow down your speeds DRASTICALLY. I go from 120mbit down to 10mbit down. Thats pretty drastic. I go from 12mbit up to 2mbit up. If you shutdown the app on your computer, everything will return to normal. I just wanted to post this to help any who may have an issue or are considering this router. Dont install the genie app, its mostly useless anyways. if you need to configure the router, just log into it in your browser

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Pros: Great signal strength
Great compatibility with new and old devices
LED indicators can be turned off
Fast!!

Cons: This space intentionally left blank.

Other Thoughts: What a great router. My download speeds in speedtest went up from 10 Mbps with an old buffalo 802.11g router and card to 90 Mbps with this and a new ac card. I'm blown away.

My router is next to the coax cable which is in my media room, so I'm pretty happy with being able to turn off all but one LED in the software. Those blinking lights are annoying- more routers should have that feature.

The only minor issue that I can think of is the size, but I guess you can't pack a beast like the Nighthawk into a small package.

3 out of 5 eggsGood performance in open spaces, poor antenna design.

Pros: Pros - Great router overall. I used it as a standard WiFi router for the first 8 months or so and as a WiFi bridge since then. Great connectivity and performance. Good user interface for configuration and updates.

Cons: Cons - Not the most attractive component but you know that when you buy it. Quite large which may be challenging to tell from online photos so look at the dimentions. The biggest complaint I have is about the 3 antennas. The antennas do not stay in place if tilted off vertical axis at all. The purpose of the multiple antenna is to provide higher throughput and better range via varying the directions of the omnidirectional antenna to provide the best coverage and potentially avoid interference. You cannot do this with the current setup. I called Netgear tech support who said I could "glue" the antenna in place which is pretty silly because you could not ever adjust them from that point forward. Look for better products out there unless you just need a close range high speed router or access point.

Other Thoughts: *Purchased via Staples. Netgear tech support could have been better by recognizing the product flaw, especially after I told them there are a number of online articles about their r7000's antenna 'flopping around' and provided a realistic fix.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for your honest review on the antennas-- please feel free to email us at newegg@netgear.com for advanced help. We will be glad to direct you to the latest fixes and anything else that may be going on.

Our sincere apologies for the trouble with your R7000.

Regards,

NETGEAR Team

3 out of 5 eggsNot worth the money, but it's okay

Pros: It's competent and reliable enough.

Cons: The wireless range is garbage for something so expensive, and the LAN speeds aren't nearly as good as they should be. I'd be less offended by it all if it were a cheaper product, but alas.

Manufacturer Response:

We are very sorry that you aren't happy with the wireless range and would like to see what we can do to help. Please email us at newegg@netgear.com with as many details as you can-- be sure to include that you are using the R7000.

We hope to hear from you soon.

NETGEAR Team

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Home Router

Pros: This router has doubled my speed & range. The dual band has made it possible for me to game next to my wife as the does the things she wants to do with out lag or lock up all together. The impressive thing is this room my den is almost 60' way from the router & I average speeds of 40mps while sharing. I can get speeds of 12mps in my driveway. I am on a Time Warner 50mps service. The set up Genie installed on my wife's Mac Book is a valuable tool to manage our network & is so easy to use. Streaming Net Flix & Apple TV has become way more enjoyable. I am 100% satisfied with my purchase!

Cons: I honestly can not think of any. Setting up the Genie took general knowledge to do. I believe I had to do a little work to get it downloaded on the Mac Book. I would say that was the biggest effort. Once it was added using the genie was easy as 123. I would suggest if you are one who does not know much about installation & a concerned at all. Get a local tech to set it up instead of bashing a product (cost between $40-$120). Took me only 20-min to do myself & I almost could not sleep I was so amazed by the results testing my new speeds in every room of my 2,200ft2 home.

Other Thoughts: I would say I bought this router because the one Time Warner gave me just did not meet my needs. I have a family of 5. Everyone has a mobile device that uses wifi. I also use Apple TV & stream NetFlix all over my home. Without a dual band I was constantly fighting with my family to maintain my connection. I am so glad the time warner tech told me this is what I needed to do to take full advantage of what I was paying for. They provide the service the router is up to you. Buy your own is the best advise anyone can give you.

1 out of 5 eggsStay away from Netgear

Pros: This router is very fast - when it works, which is for a few minutes after a reboot.

Cons: The router never worked reliably for me. The internet connectivity light would be on, but none of the devices could reliably connect to the internet. Constant "reload" messages in the router.

Other Thoughts: I wrongly suspected that my ISP Comcast was the issue and replaced the cable modem and even had a Comcast tech come out to test the lines. When nothing worked, put my old Buffalo router back and all connection issues went away. Netgear took 7 months after I initially contacted them (and many emails and troubleshooting) to finally acknowledge that I had a defective unit. To top it all off, they either charge for shipping of the replacement unit or I have to ship the defective unit to them at my cost. When i protested the shipping charge, customer service was almost condescending implying that I should be thankful that they provided email support after the initial 90 days was up and that they were sending me a replacement unit.

Stay away from Netgear. They do not stand behind their products and have no concern for the customer. Their troubleshooting process is designed to try and blame the issues on the customer's configuration (I do not have a complex setup) and to avoid replacing the unit to the extent possible

2 out of 5 eggsBegan failing after 1 month

Pros: Where to start. Had very high hopes based on the specs of this device. My previous Netgear R6300 had the wireless G die just after warranty so I thought I'd give them another chance. Bought the AC1900 and initially it

Cons: Wireless G died on this within 30 days. Ironically the same thing that happen to my previous R6300 model. N works fine but only half my house is wireless N. Today the unit stopped working with my cable modem at all and I had to put back in the half function R6300 to get back up. No impressed with Netgears quality verses the competition I used prior to using these units. Hope their support at least shines and the RMA process is smooth.

Other Thoughts: I wanted to love netgear. Clearly though if you are spending $150+ on a product and it fails so quickly that's a bit disheartening. My old Linksys and Dlinks keep trucking along and bail me out in the end. If netgear support and RMA process is good then they would redeem a few stars at least as defects do happen.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Kengiersch,

We apologize for the trouble and that ask that if you have any other problems you email us directly at newegg@netgear.com.

Thanks for your review-- please let us know if you need anything when you get the RMA.

Regards,

5 out of 5 eggsPositive Review

Pros: I understand that many others have had bad experiences with this router, but ever since I loaded firmware V1.0.3.68 I have been very pleased. My network usage may not be as heavy as some others but my phone and a few other devices are connected to the 2.4 GHz band and my laptop is connected to the 5 GHz band. I stream high def (1080P) video through my laptop frequently without problems on either of the bands. The signals are strong but my devices don't need to be more than 200 feet from the router. Early on I had a problem with the VPN but that was actually a problem with the OpenVPN software not the router so I eventually sorted that out. Had some problems with a hard drive on the USB 3.0 port but I think the firmware update fixed that. I now use the USB 2.0 port simply because my drive is USB 2.0. One thing i did learn is that you MUST properly use the web interface to properly disconnect the USB drive before powering down the router or else you risk corrupting the data on the drive - a power outage could wreck data so all my stuff is on UPS battery backups. If in doubt always back up important data elsewhere. My uptime has been as long as 6 months. The only reason it wasn't longer is that I updated firmware which requires a power cycle.

Cons: Early firmwares had problems. You must use 32-bit OpenVPN client software even if your laptop is running 64-bit OS (not a con really, just something I learned or else the VPN doesn't work properly - I blame OpenVPN not Netgear). Must be on a UPS unless you're willing to risk USB hard drive data corruption. Must properly disconnect drive before power cycling (not a con, just a drag to remember) Thankfully I rarely power cycle it.

Other Thoughts: Have used it for 1 year 3 months. Happy owner after a bumpy start.
