1 out of 5 eggsUpdate to USB file system problem

Pros: After posting this below... "Netgear has finally been able to reproduce this problem and is working on a fix, no ETA"!

Cons: That only took 2 months and some of the dumbest exchanges I've ever had... but maybe they'll actually fix it? I had actually given up on them prior to this communication.

3 out of 5 eggsOne ethernet port already out

Pros: I got this router to replace another router that was dying. The AC1900 connected to my DSL modem and it is doing a good job keeping my somewhat unstable DSL (rural area) as stable as possible.
The router has good coverage even on the 5GHz band, I can pick it up on my iPhone even on the other end of the house.
I have gigabit ethernet in my home, so its nice that the router supports that as well.

Cons: The biggest issue is that I have already had one ethernet port fail (#3). I can switch the cable from the dead port to any others and the link will immediately come up. No amounts of reboots helped, its just doa. This happened after about 3 months of use, so its pretty bad it already failed.
The file sharing options is not all its cracked up to be, yes it works, but don't count on it becoming your home NAS to share your videos and pictures. I gave it a try and ended up reverting back to sharing from my PC.

Other Thoughts: I like the signal strength, just don't like the already dead port.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA after 7 months

Pros: easy setup, good wired performance

Cons: inconsistent wireless, lots of rebooting, poor service life, miserable t o get customer service.

Other Thoughts: Was disappointed from the beginning..wireless was glitchy and as others have reported I would have to reboot regularly as wireless performance would degrade. Wired performance was great..but all wired stopped working doesn't even light up. Tried to contact them and it is something out of a bad comedy sketch. i just want to find out the cost of repair to decide if I should throw this out and move on or give it a shot...I cannot even call them without paying a per minute fee because it is more then three months..i can not chat with them as it is more then three months. I can fill out a long form to send an email that they hopefully will eventually answer if they decide to get around to it. I had figured buying their premium product (at the time was 250 bucks or so) would entitle me to at least the courtesy of a quote for repairing it...all my other routers have lasted much longer then this, and I will probably move on to another brand.

1 out of 5 eggsPlease, Do not buy these. Save your money.

Pros: Nothing.

Cons: Support is absolutely horrid.

Other Thoughts: Router was never handing out DHCP correctly. It would also not take a reset. It would not take a 30/30/30 reset either.Netgear support could not be any more useless.

Manufacturer Response:

We would like to offer further assistance-- please contact us by email at newegg@netgear.com when you get a chance. In the email be sure to provide a copy and paste of your review and any case numbers that support gave you.

We apologize for the issues and hope to hear from you soon.

1 out of 5 eggsUSB NTFS File System Problem

Pros: Generally like the router. Just don't expect any support.

Cons: Create a small file with a few recognizable lines.
Copy it to Readshare with what ever means you use.
Reduce the size of the original.
Copy that to Readyshare, overwriting the copy there.
Examine the Readyshare copy.

Other Thoughts: And remember, a directory is just another file. Netgear Support can't/won't reproduce this, claims I'm the only one that's ever had a problem, and it must be my USB Enclosure!

Manufacturer Response:

Hey DES,

Please get in contact with us by email right away. You can email us at newegg@netgear.com. Please provide a copy and paste of your review and any of the case numbers that you receieved from support.

1 out of 5 eggsWifi. No Internet access

Pros: Worked well for six months

Cons: No Internet access problem while using wireless. Using Lenovo laptop. When trying different wireless router there is no problem at all. Hoping for firmware update. Currently have V1.0.3.60_1.1.27.
Will wait for couple weeks for firmware update since I see others are complaining with the same issue. Otherwise, will return it. Sad.. Was hoping $200 router would give me less headache.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsNice specs, but not much else

Pros: It's an AC router.

Cons: I often find myself having to either reset the router or at least periodically restart the router to get it to work correctly. Xbox live will every few days will start showing closed NAT and will have to restart the router to get the network settings to show an open NAT again. On a couple occasions it will stop recognizing the chromecast and at that point the only fix has been to do a factory reset on the router.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsHas potential

Pros: Updated Review!!!!!!
When proper firmware is used this router has potential.
The 2.4GHz range is outstanding with stock antennas and really awesome when I replace the two outside antennas with upgraded 8dBi TP-Link ones. This router can handle tons of thru-put with ease. I only use this router as an access point and only for phones, laptops and tablets. My media center PC's are wired Cat7 to a proper 24port gig switch. Oh.... I hear the router is also overclockable...wink wink, nudge nudge. After having reboots multiple times a day, I have not had a reboot now in 5 days since I started using my current firmware.

Cons: This router is not for the faint of heart. It takes some tweaking and finding the correct firmware. I ended up using DD-WRT firmware by Kong version 24345M.
All the CPUs in these super 1750/1900AC rated routers run HOT. I had to create a router ducted cooling pad (like a laptop cooler) to bring the temps down to 46C. Others have reported CPU temps in the 70C+. There is not much thru-put on the 2.4GHz band. I limit my 2.4GHz to a mix of G and N and use the 5GHz only for wireless AC where it will pull in 1300Mbps. The 96Mbps is OK for me using 2.4 GHz for G and N. (laptops, phones, tablets) Is it me or are more companies putting out half baked products for the consumer to debug? Netgear should buy my next upgrade.

Other Thoughts: The firmware file name you are looking for is dd-wrt.v24-K3_AC_ARM_STD_OLDD.bin
This firmware is using the OLDD (older) more stable broadcom wireless linux drivers. Any attempt to use a current DD-WRT ...NEW_D.BIN build results in random reboots several times a day for about 50% of the R7000 routers. Be sure to follow DD-WRT flashing instructions and flash FIRST with a factory-to-dd-wrt firmware then the final firmware.

1 out of 5 eggsSave your money

Pros: Worked well for two months

Cons: After two months unit reboots continually for about twenty minutes then lights up but no connections available hardwired or Wifi. Technical support for two hours sending me a new one ($16.90) Shipping. Purchased this unit to replace Netgear R6300 that had similar issue, two-hundred dollar paperweight. I hope I have better luck with the replacement not optimistic.

Other Thoughts: Save your money try a different brand

Manufacturer Response:
