5 out of 5 eggsBest I have Ever Used!

Pros: I have owned this router since Dec 13 and it is by far the best I have ever used. I have it mounted upstairs on the wall and the range is very good. I never have to reset it unlike other routers I have owned. This is very surprising consider I am using Netgears firmware. My other routers use DD-WRT firmware which has always worked great. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase.

Cons: It is fairly big, might be an issue for some.

4 out of 5 eggsBeastly

Pros: I have been a power user of the wifi. I have owned multiple router products ranging from Linksys old school WRT45GL to their WRT1900AC; Asus N300, N600, N900; Netgear WNDR4500 and now this powerful beast called the Nighthawk (R7000). Luckily, I was able to receive this product in courtesy of Netgear's Family & Friends Program.

Easy plug and play setup. I also played around with the Netgear Genie mobile App. While I prefer using the web interface to get into my router settings as it's much more comprehensive. This is another great way to access your settings if you're ever bogged down in the garage or backyard and can't access your computer right away.

I stream a lot of videos through XMBC on my laptop. Which is connected through the wifi with my Media NAS. I have not yet seen any intermittently interruption time while streaming videos. All of my videos run smooth. Additionally, I have a Smart TV and netflix/youtube videos streams without a hitch.

The beamforming technology that is being used is fantastic. Signal Strength on some of my previous routers my signal will cut out if i'm standing on my driveway. However, this router still has perfect signal while out on the driveway and up to 2 houses away. I live in a normal single family home so that can give you an idea as to how far the signal can reach on this router.

I have easily 15 devices connected to this router at a time. Ranging from phones, computers, tablets, to video game consoles. I have not yet seen or loss of any connection time on any of these devices.

I have not yet got my hands on the Asus RT AC68U but for the most bang for your buck this is by far one of the greatest products I've owned and definitely will be a keeper.

Cons: I'm used to very slim routers. When I said this thing is a beast I don't only mean by it's performance but also it's size. You'll need a lot of space for this router.

3 out of 5 eggsGood Router, but One Antenna Loose

Pros: I purchased my NETGEAR R7000 router from Newegg 4-1/2 months ago, and, overall, I'm satisfied with the product's reliable, steady performance in supporting all my several wireless devices. It was easy to install/set up and has a myriad of useful features. Of note, I never have to reboot/reset due to disconnects and especially appreciate that I no longer encounter buffering situations with Netflix video streaming--which were frequent with my prior Linksys router. But there have been a couple of problems (see below Cons).

Cons: Initially I was disappointed with range limitations experienced in the 5GHz band; however, I was able to alleviate this somewhat by changing the 5GHz channel from the default "153" to downward channel "48." In this regard, I've noticed that subsequent NETGEAR firmware updates (I'm now on the latest 1.03.80_1.1.38) have definitely served to improve the router's 5GHz range capabilities. I'm now able to get useable range out of the higher 5GHz channels.

The other issue I've had with the router has to do with one loose antenna. Upon examination the reason is a slight (but noticeable) gap between the thumbscrew knurled end and the remainder of the antenna body. As a result, I can't aim this particular antenna at an angle--otherwise it just flops down. NETGEAR Support has agreed that it's indeed defective (a manufacturing goof), but their only offered solution--under their warranty policies--is for me to RMA my entire router for replacement. They do not replace antennas only (or even permit the purchase of OEM antennas outside of warranty).

Other Thoughts: I definitely do not want to go through the RMA hassle (and outbound shipping expense) of swapping out my relatively new Nighthawk--which works fine--for a refurb device of dubious history because of a nuisance situation involving only one antenna. So, for the time being, I'll live with my loose antenna (I have it attached to the center port and can keep it precariously balanced in the correct vertical position).

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Uncle Sugar,

We want to help.Have you tried adjusting the antennas this way?

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable

Pros: Fast if you can get it to work for more than a day!

Cons: Horribly unreliable, early few days the router will throw a fit and continuously reset over and over. Resetting over and over every few seconds. Now it has been doing it for three full days. Tried everything, and after 45 minutes on the phone with a tech support person that can't seem to understand that it doesn't work long enough to connect to, I am still fighting for an RMA to replace it from Netgear. Terrible, terrible, terrible support. Isn't even 3 months old yet. A disgrace. (Newegg however is great! Just go pick out a different product!)

Manufacturer Response:

Hey bk2k,

We are very sorry for the frustrations and that support was unable to assist you. We want to offer you advanced support-- please email us at newegg@netgear.com with a copy and paste of your review and any of the case numbers your received.

We look forward to getting your R7000 working-- or getting you the replacement needed.

5 out of 5 eggsawesome router

Pros: - 1GHz dualcore processer really does make a difference, everything is snappy, comparing to my previous router, ASUS RT-N66U Dual-Band Wireless-N900.
- genie setup is amazingly fast, i was online in less than 5 minutes
- shared USB device and printer are easy to setup, with very detailed instructions.
- very clean summary of network status
- very good wireless range

Cons: the size of the router may be a little big

Other Thoughts: had this for a few months now and have not encounter problems as of yet

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great with Kong version of DD-WRT

Pros: Have been using this as my VPN for the last six months without any issues.

Cons: None that I can think of

Other Thoughts: My comments are about this unit running the Kong version of the DD-WRT firmware...Very fast router, I've not had any issues with this unit. Solid performer!! I get consistent speeds of around 53 MB/s download, 16 MB/s upload (from behind my VPN).

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice.

Pros: Everything works as advertised. Connected to internet flawlessly. Firmware update also very easy.
Excellent signal strength !
I'm 35 ft away from router and have 4 walls between and get same speed as right by router.

Cons: Spendy , Lets hope it lasts.

5 out of 5 eggsWow! Throughput is Amazing!

Pros: * Throughput is faster than anything I've come across
* USB 3.0
* Stock firmware works great
* Wireless range is fantastic
* Isolated Guest AP

Cons: * Big, With cables, antennas, and size, it makes it a bit awkward to locate it. This is just a small gripe, though.
* Price

Other Thoughts: Everything has been perfect, so far. I will not repeat all the great things that others have said. I want to add two things:

The USB 3.0 port is on the front. There has been a consistent issues with all brands when the USB 3 port is on the back. If used, it conflicts with the antenna's signal due to poor shielding on the circuit board. NetGear just moved it to the front, and it's been great. I popped in a 64 GB, USB 3 flash drive for sharing music around the house wirelessly, and it streams perfectly.

The unexpected feature that I love is that my wired connections are much faster with this workhorse. I run Windows 8.1 and it has many ties to the internet. There was a noticeable difference when starting apps such as Outlook, IE, and even Word than I had with my previous router... and, this is via a wired connection.

That dual-core, 1 GHz processor kicks data through this router at blazing speeds. I'm running the latest NetGear firmware, and I have no lags

I counted, and realized that I have 22 devices connected; 18 are wireless.(tablets, phones, sat receivers, e-readers, etc) and have not had any lags, stutter, buffering.

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable Connections (Wired and Wireless)

Pros: Tons of options to configure. Absolutely full of great features. Fast speeds when working.

Cons: Literally from day one (a day over four months ago now) this router has been dropping my speeds from 105Mbps to about 0.25Mbps. At first I thought maybe it was a coincidence, then maybe the modem I bought at the same time.

After calling Netgear the day I got the router and being assured by them there were no problems, I then endured 17 weeks of constant dropping download speeds, while ping and upload speeds always remained fine.

After finally ruling out every cable in and out of my house, my modem, my computer, and anything else you could think of, the router is the definite cause of this issue.

Other Thoughts: Although I wouldn't say this is a con specifically to this product alone, Netgear's support is terrible, slow, and the agents are poorly trained, if even trained at all. Unless you're fine going without any modem for two weeks, replacement costs $16-30 depending on how long you want to wait for the shipping.

Manufacturer Response:

We are very sorry to hear that support was unable to help you with your R7000. Our advanced specialists will be glad to help you-- please email them at newegg@netgear.com as soon as you get a chance.

We want nothing more than to earn your business again. If you have any other questions please be sure to ask in the email.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Router with Easy Setup

Pros: Great Router for the price and the setup process was pretty seamless. The setup wizard was pretty simple to follow. In the past I've had to call my router's tech support to complete the setup process. A great feature I found while setting up my router is that I was able to setup to different wireless networks: one regular and one for 5G browsing. This comes in handy when someone at home is gaming: one can be the dedicated gaming network while everyone else can use the other network for online access and browsing.

I also like the slick design of the router itself!

Cons: Nothing so far!
