Pros: Strong signal, easy setup, clean interface, advanced features, easily share USB devices with network.

Cons: I'm so used to really advanced devices like pfSense that using anything consumer oriented like this is laughable at times. With that being said, I still use my proper dedicated firewall device between this wifi router and my cable modem. So this becomes a hub + wifi setup. I don't even use it for DHCP or anything like that.

Other Thoughts: It would be nice to see companies like Netgear pushing forward with more professional interfaces and feature sets. IPSEC, OpenVPN, Traffic Shaping, etc.

Pros: Lightning fast router when it works, easy to configure

Cons: Unstable wireless
Connectivity issues with wireless printers

Other Thoughts: Worked with this router for over six months. Great out of the box but one or both of the wireless radios would go offline every week or two which required a reboot to fix. Wireless printers would also become inaccessible over time, again requiring a router reboot. Netgear support tried for months to resolve issues, and eventually the wireless would stay up for longer, but they never fixed the wireless printing issues. Tried DD-WRT for about a month which fixed the wireless printing issues, but it has other wireless stability issues. Currently the router is on the shelf waiting for a more stable firmware; my ASUS RT-N56U is slower but it is a workhorse.

1 out of 5 eggsThis router is a joke, no wonder there are so many horrible reviews

Pros: Worked for 3 months
Fast when it worked

Cons: Stopped working after 3 months.
The router would randomly just disconnect all connections (wireless and hard wired devices). It would take a powered reset for it to work again.

Netgear support is a joke, they have 1 year warranty but only 90 day support warranty. According to the rep in order to assist me with step by step instruction on my issue I need support warranty...

So there is something wrong with the router covered under 1 year warranty but there is no way to use the warranty because of their stupid policy.

Last Netgear product I will buy. BUYERS BEWARE STAY AWAY!!! This router gets terrible reviews for a reason, I shouldn't have adopted early, now I am paying for it with a sub par router.

1 out of 5 eggsStay away from R7000 and Netgear together

Pros: Hypothetically very solid hardware - CPU, RAM amount, USB 3.0, dual band. This is only in theory - see the Cons. section.

Cons: Most of the advertised functionality is broken or non-existent:
1. WiFi is unstable in terms of performance and durability
2. Numerous ISP-related issues, basic protocols such as L2TP may not work with your provider.
3. DLNA functionality does not work - streaming of a content is instantly cut.
4. SMB sharing is broken - R7000 instantly destroys the content of the plugged disk. Beware and keep your files out of this router.
5. USB 3.0 is a fiction - hardly reaches the USB 2.0 throughput.
The most important part - Netgear's support is a joke. They probably hire undereducated amateurs or simply use the automated random replies. NONE of the numerous issues I've reported is fixed after almost a year! They drives you crazy with the idiotic requests and suggestions but never even try to understand the technical side.

Other Thoughts: Disappointment is not a proper word for Netgear and its miserable creation. Save your nerves keeping out of this piece of nothing.

5 out of 5 eggsNighthawk takes flight

Pros: Large coverage area
Fast speeds

Cons: Google Chromebook wants to switch to 5G although not supported on 5g

Other Thoughts: Had a Asus AC router which got fried in a lightning storm, went with my son's recommendation in getting a replacement and the Nighthawk won. I am quite pleased. We can now stream HD Video over 100 ft from unit through several rooms and floors. We have 4 power internet users on this router and do not see any issues with performance when we are all are streaming.

Pros: worked for a month or so... wired connections work good

Cons: Wi-Fi signal strengths for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz radios lose connectivity with age.

Other Thoughts: this is second top of the line Netgear router I've owned where the Wi-Fi radios grow weak and begin to die within 6 to 12 months.

Pros: After posting this below... "Netgear has finally been able to reproduce this problem and is working on a fix, no ETA"!

Cons: That only took 2 months and some of the dumbest exchanges I've ever had... but maybe they'll actually fix it? I had actually given up on them prior to this communication.

3 out of 5 eggsOne ethernet port already out

Pros: I got this router to replace another router that was dying. The AC1900 connected to my DSL modem and it is doing a good job keeping my somewhat unstable DSL (rural area) as stable as possible.
The router has good coverage even on the 5GHz band, I can pick it up on my iPhone even on the other end of the house.
I have gigabit ethernet in my home, so its nice that the router supports that as well.

Cons: The biggest issue is that I have already had one ethernet port fail (#3). I can switch the cable from the dead port to any others and the link will immediately come up. No amounts of reboots helped, its just doa. This happened after about 3 months of use, so its pretty bad it already failed.
The file sharing options is not all its cracked up to be, yes it works, but don't count on it becoming your home NAS to share your videos and pictures. I gave it a try and ended up reverting back to sharing from my PC.

Other Thoughts: I like the signal strength, just don't like the already dead port.

Pros: easy setup, good wired performance

Cons: inconsistent wireless, lots of rebooting, poor service life, miserable t o get customer service.

Other Thoughts: Was disappointed from the beginning..wireless was glitchy and as others have reported I would have to reboot regularly as wireless performance would degrade. Wired performance was great..but all wired stopped working doesn't even light up. Tried to contact them and it is something out of a bad comedy sketch. i just want to find out the cost of repair to decide if I should throw this out and move on or give it a shot...I cannot even call them without paying a per minute fee because it is more then three months..i can not chat with them as it is more then three months. I can fill out a long form to send an email that they hopefully will eventually answer if they decide to get around to it. I had figured buying their premium product (at the time was 250 bucks or so) would entitle me to at least the courtesy of a quote for repairing it...all my other routers have lasted much longer then this, and I will probably move on to another brand.
