1 out of 5 eggsdid not work

This review is from: NETGEAR EX6100-100NAS Wireless AC750 Dual-Band Gigabit Range Extender

Pros: could not get it working, had tech from netgear helping, nothing...had the motorola and timewarner techs at it...it just not work for me.
I have many netgear items and they are all very dependable. Just this one can not get it to work

Cons: did not work

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Product

This review is from: NETGEAR EX6100-100NAS Wireless AC750 Dual-Band Gigabit Range Extender

Pros: Good performance and I rarely need to reboot it.

Cons: I own two of these, and putting both on the same network required gymnastics. I could not use their express setup. You either need a lot of space on a power-strip or consume an entire wall outlet because of the physical design.

Other Thoughts: I live in an older home and running CAT5 wire between rooms is not an option. These solve the problem by allowing multiple wired devices in a room when combined with a cheap switch. I do not like these devices expose an additional SSID.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat range and performance! Dual band!

This review is from: NETGEAR EX6100-100NAS Wireless AC750 Dual-Band Gigabit Range Extender

Pros: After using a TP-Link extender with internal antennas, I was hesitant to test another extender. However, this device performed much better and had other great features as well.

The external directional antennas are a great touch.
Setup can be done multiple ways.
Extended range much farther than others.
Supported both 5GHz and 2.4GHz.
Easy to place out of the way and still have great range boosting.

Cons: None, maybe a little pricier than other options.

Other Thoughts: This is a great device for extending your router's range.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic, works with no fuss

This review is from: NETGEAR EX6100-100NAS Wireless AC750 Dual-Band Gigabit Range Extender

Pros: Ethernet Port, helpful for those devices far away that just don't make sense running a long cable to.
Easy access switch on it's side for changing between extender and access point.
Decent connectivity.
Easy to setup.

Cons: It's a tad heavy, so if it doesn't fit snug in the outlet it's likely to slowly wiggle free. Shouldn't affect too many people though.
The antennas are helpful, however since they can't be removed, it limits the placement of the device, since it's already a bit large. Luckily the prongs are near top and don't interfere with using the top outlet like some other extenders.

Other Thoughts: I'm satisfied with it. It fulfills all it's purposes admirably for the sale price it's currently at. Regular price it's probably a 4 or 4.5 out of 5.

3 out of 5 eggsOk for casual surfing

This review is from: NETGEAR EX6100-100NAS Wireless AC750 Dual-Band Gigabit Range Extender

Pros: easy setup. Good range. Fine for surfing the web.

Cons: Runs too hot, even when I put it somewhere cool.
Too much packet loss for gaming.
When extending both 2.4 and 5GHz I found it very unstable, in-fact after running this way for only a few minutes it would have an effect on my entire network. Unplugging it would bring the network back to normal.
Once I figured out FastLane setup (advanced setup) it worked much better, excellent throughput but too much packet loss for gaming. For surfing it is fine.

Other Thoughts: Wouldn't recommend it, the gains really weren't worth it. Go for something a little more robust like the 6200.

Manufacturer Response:

We would like to investigate and help you with your EX6100. Please email us at newegg@netgear.com with any details that you can. Be sure to mention that it is running hot and anything else that may speed things up on our end.

Our apologies for the trouble.

1 out of 5 eggsNot worth the money

This review is from: NETGEAR EX6100-100NAS Wireless AC750 Dual-Band Gigabit Range Extender

Pros: Small design

Cons: Connected to the same network the Apple router I was trying to extend the range was actually going further than the extender. Not recomended in outdoor applications, looses connectivity fast if weather is less then perfect. I had to return it since it did not cover the gap I was trying to fill on my wireless set-up

2 out of 5 eggsvery disappointed

This review is from: NETGEAR EX6100-100NAS Wireless AC750 Dual-Band Gigabit Range Extender

Pros: Easy to setup. Got it running in less than 5 minutes. Extends Wifi range as intended. Looks nice.

Cons: Very slow. Drastic drop in Wifi speed compare to connecting directly to router. No configuration other than setting up 2.4GHz and 5Ghz frequency. 4G on my Galaxy S4 was faster and I'm on Sprints network.

Other Thoughts: Lets start with my modem/router configuration. I am currently using a Motorola Surfboard eXtreme Cable Modem SB6120 DOCSIS 3.0 with a Netgear N900 WNDR4500 wireless router and Comcast Preferred Blast Plus internet.

Using Netgear's Analytical app, all the Wifi that were within range were mainly using default channels and I was the only one using Channel 11 for 2.4GHz b/g/n and Channel 161 for 5Ghz a/n. So far so good. I set up both frequency in less then 5 minutes using WPS method and started testing on my desktop, my phone, both my kids tablet and what do you know? I was only getting between 2 to 6 Mbps. I thought maybe i did something wrong so went over the setup procedures again. Still the same results. Since I was using the WPS, I tired the Smart Setup, same result.

Connecting directly to my router on my desktop using a Linksys AE1000 USB adapter, I was getting 103.46Mbps Download and 12.09 Mbps Upload. Using the same adapter to connect to the extender (Note: desktop computer and router only separated by 1 wall and extender is in the same room with my desktop) I was getting fluctuating speed between 2 Mbps and 6 Mbps download and 6 Mbps to 8 Mbps upload. The USB adapter and the extender is roughly 5 feet apart.

Very disappointed.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

This review is from: NETGEAR EX6100-100NAS Wireless AC750 Dual-Band Gigabit Range Extender

Pros: The coverage and connectivity is nice while it stays connected. My hopes were high at first.

Cons: It only ever stays connected with Internet access for about a week. After that, all connected devices loose connection to the Internet. The device seems to stay connected to the router, all computers seem to stay connected to the device, but suddenly connected computers no longer have Internet access. The only fix is to unplug the range extender, wait for a few minutes, plug it back in, restart all connected computers, and connection is restored. This has become annoying and seems to happen at the most inconvenient times. I honestly wish I never bought it.

Other Thoughts: I thought it was going to work out, so I tossed the packaging. I doubt it can be returned now.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Anonymous,

The disconnect issues you mention definitely aren't normal for the EX6100, and we'd like to help. Please email us at newegg@netgear.com and our engineers will work directly with you to see what's wrong. It will also be helpful to know the firmware version that's currently installed on the extender.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent and Reliable

This review is from: NETGEAR EX6100-100NAS Wireless AC750 Dual-Band Gigabit Range Extender

Pros: This is an excellent little, near plug and play, range extender. The build quality is not bad at all and in the roughly six months I have had it in use it has held up just fine with out a single problem. The WPS set up button works just fine if you follow the proper sequence of pressing the button on your router, then on the extender within the required amount of time. It has lights on the front that will help you to determine the direction and quality of your connection that give you a good visible overview of what's going on. This is Dual Band, so you get your 2.4 and 5 GHz bands extended out with this single unit. I have the unit located at least a couple hundred feet from my main router located in my basement office. This extender provides the range necessary for my kids to connect through the house on the main floor without a problem. Without an extender it is impossible to receive a signal in the far bedrooms on the main floor of the house. With this Range Extender we have a 5 Bar signal everywhere! The unit has a Ethernet port on it and can be used as an access point if that's what you have a need for and is a nice added feature. The device plugs straight into the wall outlet so there is no block with cord to get lost or deal with which I think it nice.

Cons: The only real thing I can see that some may consider a con, is that because it plugs directly into the wall outlet, you may not be able to use both plugs on the outlet you use depending on it's location.

Other Thoughts: I would have no problem recommending this to anyone, it does a really excellent job, has a number of nice features, and the cost is reasonable for what you are getting.
