1 out of 5 eggsCAUTION!! IN RED LETTERS ON NETGEAR WEBSITE: End of Life (Service Unavailable)

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR4500-100PAS N900 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: What pros can you have when a company stops supporting a relatively recent router? Very disappointing. It doesn't matter
how great certain aspects of a product are when it fails on it's primary mission- data security.

Cons: There is a defect that allows for intrusion from the outside into your computer and network. Since Netgear is calling this product EOL (too old for them to stand behind their product)- anyone buying this router is on their own with no support.

Other Thoughts: How can this product still be sold when Netgear has deemed it EOL (end of life)? There is a defect that allows for intrusion
into your computer and network. I still get notices on my 2007 Toyota about defects that Toyota finds unacceptable and they
stand behind their products. Stuff happens- it's how you respond to problems and stand behind your products (or not) that binds customers to companies.

1 out of 5 eggsBetterOptions

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR4500-100PAS N900 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: Looks cool

Cons: Router died

Other Thoughts: Hgh dollar router lasted less than two years. When trying to install a wireless printer I discoveted my system had defaulted to the router on m Comcast modem. The silly "Genie" app wouldn't let me access the router admin functions. After a wasted night of troubleshooting and pulling my hair out I threw the n900 in the trash and picked up a Linksys AC1900. Linksys was up and running in 15 minutes. Save your precious time and money and go with a router that works.

5 out of 5 eggsSUPER SOLID

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR4500-100PAS N900 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: We have 5 computers, three TVs, Xbox and PS, random laptops, oh yea VOIP phones, three NAS backup systems, media center, my kids friends log in when they are here. I reserved the 5Ghz band for the home theaters so there is no competition with normal data stream.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I do not know what problems others are having this has been online for 5 years with no problems.
We do use UPS power packs to protect our Router and modem from power spikes, and lighting Strikes.
This is Florida the Lighting Strike Capitol of the World.
Just do a manual set up and assign all devices a unique IP forget the DHCP. Also set your IP range to a different range like 192.221.225.177, this frees up your system from hackers looking to bang their way in using 192.168.1.1 and hoping for the DHCP to assign them an IP address. Also turn off the SSID broadcast so you are not as visible to would be Thumpers interfering with your bandwidth. This has been Rock Solid.
Pair with TRENDnet TEW-647GA Wireless N for ease of connections.

1 out of 5 eggsNetgear Fail!

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR4500-100PAS N900 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: Looks Pretty and a decent Price

Cons: Never could use. I could not get my computer to communicate with with Router. I tried entering the IP Address and I tried downloading the NetGear Genie Application.

When using the NetGear Application the internet connection would connect and then immediately drop. I tired rebooting my Modem and the Router several times. It never worked. I tried several different methods of connecting the computer to the router. Never worked, I was never able to communicate with it.

I tried to connect to the Wireless using the supplied Password. My Laptop would connect, but said it had no Internet Access and could not access the Router homepage. My cell phone said their was network communication issues and dropped the WiFi connection and remained on 4G.

Other Thoughts: I don't know who is messing up at Netgear, but they need to get the situation corrected NOW! In the past you would never see any Netgear products with more than a few 1 Egg ratings. Now, their reviews are full of bad 1 Egg reviews all due to poor quality.

I have always bought Netgear, maybe it is time to rethink that...

4 out of 5 eggsV3 not compatible with DD-WRT

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR4500-100PAS N900 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: Looks nice

Cons: I bought this as it said Open SOurce in writeup, and as per DD-WRT website, you can install open VPN. However, I received V3 of this router which DOES NOT have DD-WRT firmware available for it, so I can't use it. It was past the 30-day window when I discovered this (I was on vacation) so can't even return it

3 out of 5 eggsNetgear WNDR4500V3 and DD-WRT

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR4500-100PAS N900 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: The unit looks nice and seems to have all the bells and whistles needed - but see con

Cons: I bought this onine while I was in Honduras, as I was looking for a router I could install DD-WRT firmware on. The NewEgg write says it's Opensource compatible. That may be true of V1 and V2 , but I was sent V3 which is not. DD-WRT froum mentions specifically that it is not compatble and not to try making it work. SO now I have a router I can't use - I couldn't return it as by the time we arrived back in Canada and I started looking at firmware downloads, the 30-day period had just passed

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR4500-100PAS N900 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: Easy to install. Gets me great reception in two story , 2,500 square foot house built in 1890.

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: Don't care for the un removeable clear plastic stand that is attached by some off headed screws.

5 out of 5 eggsBest router for $100 or less

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR4500-100PAS N900 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: Never cuts out
fast, according to specs
good signal

Cons: Overkill if you're in an apartment with less than 200Mb/s.

Other Thoughts: This router is on one side of a 3600 sq. ft. house, and we can get signal to the opposite side of the house. In the backyard area opposite to the router, not quite.

1 out of 5 eggsWorthless Garbage

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR4500-100PAS N900 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n

Pros: Wired connections work great.

Cons: Wireless connection is a totally worthless. I have 2 chrome casts. When i use them it kills the wifi on this router. Upgraded when my previous netgear died. I have done everything I can to try and rectify this. Changed channels, disabled dual band, moved the dang router 50 feet and updated to the latest firmware. Glad I dropped 100 bucks on this paperweight. Go with a linksys...

Other Thoughts: I have had so many issues with a router. I am a software engineer by profession and am very tech savey. This is complete trash, I will never buy another Netgear product again. Perhaps they should budget more in QA...

Manufacturer Response:

We apologize for the trouble with your wireless. Please email us at newegg@netgear.com with the serial number of your unit and any other necessary information. We want to get the WNDR4500 working for you properly and once again apologize for the inconvenience.

Regards,

NETGEAR Team
