5 out of 5 eggsWorks well

Pros: It works; it's comparatively cheap; unlike the router I was previously using as a central switch, I appear to actually be able to operate at full duplex, saturating the link with large file transfers in the upstream direction and simultaneously streaming HD video in the downstream direction, while my previous router-switch would choke on streaming media if I saturated the upstream link; runs 1 Gbps over Cat5e UTP wires just fine (maximum cable distance in my house is around 100 ft)

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsDid not work out of the box

Pros: Small footprint

Cons: Did not work right out of the box. Lights up, but cannot allow connections to the network. Put in a different switch, and it worked fine. Just lousy quality control, I guess.

Other Thoughts: If you're going to buy this and you're in a hurry, buy two and return the one that fails.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great!

Pros: The thing just works. I mean, the setup manual basically just says, "Unpack, plug into power outlet, plug in devices". And, guess what? That's all of the directions that you could possibly ever need.

Transfer speed is quite good. I tested it by transferring a large .iso file, and the transfer completed in no time.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: It doens't have the bells and whistles of a regular enterprise-type switch. I don't count that as a negative, because there are lots of users who will never need them. If your switching needs are simple, this item will definitely do the job.

Highly recommended.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Looks nice. Good price.

Cons: I hate to be the only 1 star review, but this switch did not work out of the box. I've tested my cables and they work fine. The switch fails to connect to anything other than another (d-link) switch, making it.... not much of a switch. Anything other than the other switch gets a dead link light regardless of the port or the cable used. Cables are all cat6 standard x-over wired for gigabit.

Other Thoughts: My time lost fighting this chinese piece of junk was worth more than the switch cost.

5 out of 5 eggsCheap and Effective

Pros: Literally plug and play. As simple as that. The device worked right out of the box.

No speed difference between plugged right into the router and behind the switch.

Inside the home network transfer speeds were able to fully saturate the gigabit ports.

It's small. That is always a good bonus for things like this.

Power brick is manageably small.

LED's are not that bright which is a necessity with devices like this. A bright LED makes them unusable.

Stays cool. Do not notice it getting warm to the touch even after nearly a month of 24/7 operation.

Cons: It's a con for all switches I've owned and reviewed. Why not make the brick portion of the power brick be separated from the plug. It almost always takes up at least 2 power spots if not three. They're trying to fix this by rotating it but if the power brick is wedged between the desk and the wall then all that does is push the desk away from the wall. It's a bit annoying. I'm not taking off one egg for that because everyone does it. It would be nice to see it change at some point but I don't really see that happening.

Other Thoughts: The price is right, it works right out of the box no problem at all, the two main things you want out of a switch. It provides 4 more networked ports. If that's what you're looking for then this is the switch for you. Those along with the other pros as listed above makes this switch a great value.

5 out of 5 eggsFast switching!

Pros: This is an extremely compact size and way to add additional connectivity in the simplest way.

It's as easy as plugging it in and you have additional gigabit connectivity ports ready to use.

It's very small, which is nice since we have a lot of things plugged in these days. Connect to either modem or router and this will automatically switch based on demand, and leave nobody without a connection.

Netgear is a leader in connectivity products. Two-year warranty is very nice.

Cons: None... zero zip..

Other Thoughts: This is a very inexpensive way to add additional wired internet connections. Switching can tend to make me think one of the connections gets the bulk of connectivity, while the others wait their turn and real slow connections. In testing this I found this to be totally untrue.

For just about two weeks I have had 2 daily PC’s, an HTPC and a laptop connected. Two of the computers are used often at the same time and the HTPC is almost always on and running HDTV. I found it impressive that this unit never left any of them with a poor connection, at any time! This includes online gaming, HDTV running continuous, and a laptop just to be another user so that I could see how good this works. With two computers doing online gaming, I occasionally saw a slight reduction in FPS, but it was a fast recovery. That showed me that this not only switches on demand, it does it really quick.

It's has been like I didn't even connect this for the most part (compared to straight out of my router). With today's high speeds in our homes and businesses, for the multi-tasking and multi-users, this proved out to be a very good product. There is enough bandwidth to go around. I have a hi-speed package from my supplier. With a slow basic bandwidth package this might not give as good results, this is ‘Sharing’ a single connection.

How can you go wrong to even have this as a tool in the tool box of ifs? Additional connections or want to be ready in case, Would I recommend this to family or friend, yes!
