3 out of 5 eggsSpotty 5G

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: Excellent signal strength and range. I can walk past several homes and still get a connection. The QOS in the recent April 2015 firmware update is excellent and works very well.

Cons: 5G connections is poor on my laptop and Windows phone. They will appear to be connected but no traffic. I reboot of the devices and the router is needed to fix it but not for long.

Other Thoughts: For the time being I have disabled the 5G radios until a firmware update can possibly fix it. I will stick with the 2.4G radio for now. I still have hope that Netgear will address these issues.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsWhat a Nightmare - Not hawk.

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: It is fast, but just like a sports car it doesn't matter when you run it into a wall. I had fully updated firmware, still had problems. Installed DD-WRT firmware.... Still failed. Not sure what's going on with this router, but I wasted enough of my life on it!

Cons: I had problems with my Vonage Business VOIP service. Contacted Vonage, they changed all the settings they could and still had problems with the VOIP traffic being handled improperly. (SIP ALG & a few other options)

Then tried to setup my business IMAP email accounts using SSL:
Account Type: IMAP
Incoming Server (IMAP): 993
Encryption: SSL
Outgoing Server (SMTP): 465
Encryption: SSL
Failed HORRIFICALLY.

Seriously? Another port/routing issue? I pulled my OLD Linksys WRT-610N out of the closet. Blew off the dust & miracles DO happen! It worked for both my email and VOIP traffic without a hitch.

Other Thoughts: Now I have a $300 super fast wireless access point.

1 out of 5 eggsLow Quality Product

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: Very good specifications.

Cons: Firmware Version 1.0.1.16

After being happy with Netgear WNDR3700 for a long time I decided to upgrade and switch to Netgear Nighthawk X6. But I became very disappointed with this product and the company. I had to RMA and lost $17 on shipping label to return to Newegg.

Nighthawk X6 was stable for 1 day only. It keeps crashing every few hours, drops connections and requires manual resets. Majority of LEDs turn off, the power LED goes amber from white. I tried hard reset but it didn’t help either.
I had 9 devices connected to the router (PCs, cell phones, tablets).

So I recommend to Netgear to focus on quality and test products before releasing them to the end users to avoid disappointed customer.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Ajek,

We apologize that you have had to get an RMA and that you are still having trouble. Please email us at newegg@netgear.com with any case numbers or emails that we can investigate-- we also want to help you get your R8000 working flawlessly.

NETGEAR Team

4 out of 5 eggsGREAT ROUTER/ BAD SUPPORT

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE, BOTH 2.4 GZ/5.8GZ. 2.4GH ON 2.4GZ I GET 70MBPS/ 5.8 GZ DEVIVES GET UP TO TO 130MBPS. HOME IS 1600 SQ. FT. PUTS OUT SMALL AMT. OF HEAT. ROUTER PUTS OUT A TOTAL 600 MBPS ON 2.4GZ/1300 ON 5.8GZ

Cons: CAME BOXED WITH BADLY NEEDED FIRMWARE UPDATE. LOT OF TROUBLE IN SET UP, AFTER FIRMWARE UPDATE HAD TO UNWIND ALL TO REINSTALL

Other Thoughts: OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE. HAVE OWNED SEVERAL NETGEAR ROUTERS. THIS ONE IS BEST. ONLY CALLED SUPPORT ONE TIME. A CALL THAT LASTED 48 MINUTES. UPPER LEVEL SUPPORT NEVER CAME BACK ON LINE. SUPPORT IS BAD., PRODUCT IS GREAT. FORTUNATE I HAVE SEVERAL NETGEAT ROUTERS. WHAT ENABLED ME TO PROGRAM NIGHT HAWK R8000. IF YOU HAVE EXPERIENCE IN NETGEAR ROUTERS YOU CAN SET UP OK. DO NOT LOOK FOR GOOD SUPPORT. I AM WELL SATISFIED WITH PRODUCT. THANKS TO ON LINE BLOGS, SUPPORT MATERIAL. RECOMMEND THIS TO PEOPLE QUALIFIED TO SET UP WITHOUT SUPPORT. THE READY SHARE VAULT ONLY BACKS UP FILES,ETC. NOT ENTIRE COMPUTER. YOU CAN DOWNLOAD GENIE FOR ALTERNATE COMPUTERS ON SYSTEM. YOU CAN USE GENIE OR GO TO ROUTER ONLINE TO MAKE ROUTER ADJUSTMENTS. BE SURE TO BACK UP SETTINGS TO DESKTOP, OR FLASH DRIVE IN CASE OF FAILURE. IF YOU HAVE AN UNDERSTANDING OF HOW TO TWEEK A NETGEAR ROUTER. THIS IS THE BEST ROUTER FOR YOU. MY ROKU3 HAS 5.8GZ GETS 130 MBPS. PICTURE IS OUTSTANDING. I LOVE THE ROUTER/ HATE THE SERVICE. ROUTER HAS BEAM FORWARDING/ MIMO

1 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely Wretched

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: handles UPnP correctly -- when it's not busy crashing

Cons: I've been using the Internet since 1995 and have seen a lot of routers. The Nighthawk X6 AC3200 is most certainly the worst router I've encountered and quite possibly, the worst router any company has ever produced.

It fails on so many levels.

WiFi Reliability >> EXTREMELY POOR: The router constantly drops wireless clients. When a "drop" occurs, the mobile device (iPhone, laptop, etc.) appears to be connected but the router abruptly stops passing traffic. Sometimes the problem can be fixed by turning WiFi on/off on the client device but more often than not, the router must be rebooted.

TriBand >> EXTREMELY POOR: The "smart" functionality that supposedly allows real-time negotiation of an optimal connection across multiple radios with identically named SSIDs fails miserably. For best results, you'll need to keep radio #2 active and shut off all other wireless functionality in the router. You'll still have major problems but at least this configuration will continue running for a couple of days (sometimes longer) without having to reboot.

Routing and Switching >> EXTREMELY POOR: Even hardwired devices like an AppleTV encounter difficulty when communicating with Apple's iTunes server or other hardwired devices (e.g. iMac) on the LAN. ** As an aside, I've never encountered a router that fails so miserably at it's primary task: routing.

User Interface >> BELOW AVERAGE: You'll be using the web-based interface a LOT due to the barrage of router reboots you'll be executing. The user interface is functional and easy to understand. But the designers made some rookie mistakes, the most irritating of which is a fundamental incompatibility with the common Ad Blocker plug-ins. If you don't deactivate the Ad Blocker in your browser, the router's Advanced interface fails to appear. I want to emphasize that the interface itself doesn't actually contain ads. The UI is just so poorly crafted that Ad Blockers incorrectly assume that a third-party advertisement is trying to hijack the browser.

I switched to an Asus AC2400 and all of the problems described above vanished.

Other Thoughts: The Nighthawk X6 AC3200 is far and away the worst router I've encountered. You can literally buy any other router on the market, even an old $5 Linksys from that Thrift Shop down the road, and be better off than you'd be with this wretched Nighthawk. It's absolute garbage and should be avoided like the plague.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Festus,

We appreciate your extensive review and can't apologize enough for the disconnect issue that you are having. It sounds like your R8000 isn't working properly, and we would like to help you. Please email us at newegg@netgear.com with the serial number a unit and a description of what you described above.

Our sincere apologies for the trouble-- we look forward to hearing from you.

5 out of 5 eggsA great router for high wireless traffic

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: Tri-Bands
Smart Sense Load Sharing
Great wireless range
Wall Mountable

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: NetGear has always served me great in the last 10 years, they are the first MFG i look to for networking products. This router is one of the best out there now, with the Tri-Band coupled with Smart Sense Load Sharing makes this router a must anywere there is high wireless traffic. My house runs at least 1.5-2tb a month on streaming this router handles it without a hitch at all. Even though it has alot of rich technical features and is highly configurable NetGear has also streamlined the setup for less tech savy users aswell. The new style antennas over doubled my range vs the NetGear R6300 Router which is a great router aswell. The X6 is a slam dunk for anyone that needs alot of wireless bandwidth at once.

2 out of 5 eggsNot stable

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: This router is fast and can handle many clients.

Cons: Not stable at all. It will randomly reboot, under load or no load. I purchased two and both do the same thing.

Other Thoughts: I'm a network engineer and needed something in a pinch to setup a sales meeting and this router made me look like a fool with it's random reboots. I sure hope Netgear works on the quality of their products.

Manufacturer Response:

Please get in contact with our experts right away-- you can email us at newegg@netgear.com. Be sure to leave a copy and paste of your review along with your model/serial number.

We hope to get your R8000 working properly for you and can't apologize enough for the trouble.

NETGEAR Team
