1 out of 5 eggsDisappointing

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: 1. Great looking
2. Fast Wireless Speeds

Cons: 1. No Advanced Features
2. Expensive for slightly better than an AP

Other Thoughts: I was looking forward to being able to put this router in my network. If you are looking for an expensive AP, then this router is for you. If you want any kind of advanced features, please look elsewhere. Asus has the ability to show network traffic by device. Guess that's where I am heading to next.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Russell,

If you have any questions or need help regarding advanced features then please let us know. You can email us at newegg@netgear.com with the serial number of your R8000 and a copy and paste of your review.

NETGEAR Team

5 out of 5 eggsBest Router I've Ever Owned

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: Excellent range, excellent throughput, never drops wireless connections, very stable, LEDs can be turned off with a switch on the back. This router has better range on its 5ghz band than most routers have on their 2.4ghz band, which is really impressive. It's really cool looking too. If Batman owned a wireless router, it would probably look something like this.

Cons: The Netgear firmware is a bit simplistic, but just about any option you would need is there if you look closely.

Other Thoughts: This is way better than the flaky ASUS Dark Knight RT-N66U router it replaced that was constantly dropping wireless connections. It does its primary job of routing and holding connections extremely well.

4 out of 5 eggsEXCELLENT ROUTER/HORRIBLE SUPPORT

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: WHEN THE UNIT IS WORKING CORRECTLY IT OUT PERFORMS ANY ROUTER I HAVE EVER HAD. THE WIRELESS SPEEDS ARE SUPER. 1300 MBPS ON 5.8 GZ, 600 ON 2.4

Cons: BULKY, NEEDED FIRMWARE UPDATE OUT OF THE BOX, SO MAKE SURE TO UPDATE FIRMWARE FIRST. MAKES THE INITIAL SET UP DIFFICULTIF YOU USE VOI, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ANOTHER SOURCE OF COMMUNICATION, LIKE CELL. GET READY TO WAIT A LONG TIME FOR SUPPORT

Other Thoughts: I LOVE THIS ROUTER, HOWEVER EVEN DURING THE 90 DAY FREE TECH SUPPORT THE SUPPORT AGENT WILL TRY TO FORCE YOU FOR A CREDIT CARD TO CHARGE YOU. MY UNIT IS UNDER THE 90 DAYS. HAD AN ISSUE. MADE 4 CALLS TO SUPPORT. SEEMS WHEN YOU REFUSE TO BUY MORE SUPPORT THEY WILL DISCONNECT YOU, AS HAPPENED TO ME. A TOTAL TIME OF 2 HRS, 45 MIN. TO GET AN AGENT TO FULLY HELP ME. HE DID CORRECT THE PROBLEM, BUT TRIED MULTIPLE TIMES TO FORCE ME TO BUY ADDITIONAL SUPPORT.MAKE SURE YOU GET A CASE NUMBER WHEN YOU ARE FINALLY CONNECTED TO AN AGENT SO WHEN THEY DISCONNECT THE LINE YOU HAVE A RESPONSE NUMBER TO CALL BACK ON.

5 out of 5 eggsPatience is a virtue :)

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: Does what it says, when firmware is updated...

Cons: Needs major firmware upgrade out of the box

Other Thoughts: I was leery when purchasing this product after reading the bad reviews, but I understood that most of these issues would be fixed as soon as NetGear released firmware upgrades, and I really wanted a top of the line router as I am a network Administrator and I don't have time to build a Vyatta.
That being said, it seems that this product was shipped to retailers with a very old firmware installed.

When you get this product, you MUST upgrade the firmware first thing, and 99.8% of these issues will be fixed.

You MUST restart your modem with the router attached and on (yes, I know, it's backwards). I had to restart my router twice before it saw the routerlogin or 192.168.1.1

Once it was up, firmware upgraded, everything else works fine.
I have it attached to a 24 port GB switch (6 desktops), 2 AP's (yes, three wireless systems..awesome), 7 smart TV's, 4 smartphones, two iPads, and a NAS. No drops yet, no packet loss. File transfer from the NAS (with jumbo frames) of a 1gb video file to my desktop took 15 seconds.

As long as Netgear keeps the firmware updates coming, I'm sure most will be happy with this open source product.

1 out of 5 eggsExtremely disappointing

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: Nothing comes to mind - worked for about a month, then started having issues. Intermittent interruptions at first then consistent down time.

Cons: After contacting Netgear support was told that would have to pay additional fees to receive support to resolve the issues we experienced. The machine seemed to work passingly well, until just outside the labor portion of the warranty. odd how that timing worked out.

Other Thoughts: Really really - don't purchase this product

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Carl,

There is nothing we want more than to get your R8000 working like it should. Please get in contaact with us as soon as you can so that we can get everything sorted. All you will need to do is email us at newegg@netgear.com with the serial number of your router and what you've described above.

We apologize for the inconvenience and look to get you 100% satisfied.

Pros: -Huge Broadcasting Range
-Strong, Consistent High Speeds
-No Downtime
-Great Management Software
-Minimalist Design, Compact.

Cons: -Absolutely NONE

Other Thoughts: This device so far has served and surpassed my needs with 10+ devices running at the same time. Held my demands for gaming, streaming and other media throughout the house (even the basement!!) Netgear made a masterpiece here, this device is to be memorialized.

3 out of 5 eggsSpotty 5G

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: Excellent signal strength and range. I can walk past several homes and still get a connection. The QOS in the recent April 2015 firmware update is excellent and works very well.

Cons: 5G connections is poor on my laptop and Windows phone. They will appear to be connected but no traffic. I reboot of the devices and the router is needed to fix it but not for long.

Other Thoughts: For the time being I have disabled the 5G radios until a firmware update can possibly fix it. I will stick with the 2.4G radio for now. I still have hope that Netgear will address these issues.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsWhat a Nightmare - Not hawk.

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: It is fast, but just like a sports car it doesn't matter when you run it into a wall. I had fully updated firmware, still had problems. Installed DD-WRT firmware.... Still failed. Not sure what's going on with this router, but I wasted enough of my life on it!

Cons: I had problems with my Vonage Business VOIP service. Contacted Vonage, they changed all the settings they could and still had problems with the VOIP traffic being handled improperly. (SIP ALG & a few other options)

Then tried to setup my business IMAP email accounts using SSL:
Account Type: IMAP
Incoming Server (IMAP): 993
Encryption: SSL
Outgoing Server (SMTP): 465
Encryption: SSL
Failed HORRIFICALLY.

Seriously? Another port/routing issue? I pulled my OLD Linksys WRT-610N out of the closet. Blew off the dust & miracles DO happen! It worked for both my email and VOIP traffic without a hitch.

Other Thoughts: Now I have a $300 super fast wireless access point.

1 out of 5 eggsLow Quality Product

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: Very good specifications.

Cons: Firmware Version 1.0.1.16

After being happy with Netgear WNDR3700 for a long time I decided to upgrade and switch to Netgear Nighthawk X6. But I became very disappointed with this product and the company. I had to RMA and lost $17 on shipping label to return to Newegg.

Nighthawk X6 was stable for 1 day only. It keeps crashing every few hours, drops connections and requires manual resets. Majority of LEDs turn off, the power LED goes amber from white. I tried hard reset but it didn’t help either.
I had 9 devices connected to the router (PCs, cell phones, tablets).

So I recommend to Netgear to focus on quality and test products before releasing them to the end users to avoid disappointed customer.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Ajek,

We apologize that you have had to get an RMA and that you are still having trouble. Please email us at newegg@netgear.com with any case numbers or emails that we can investigate-- we also want to help you get your R8000 working flawlessly.

Regards,

NETGEAR Team
