1 out of 5 eggsKeeps dropping connection

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: Upgraded from ASUS N-66U, With wider bandwidth, Strong signal and range when it connects

Cons: Keeps dropping connection with both 2.4G and 5G WIFI. When streaming movie from Netflix, after watching the movie for a while. It keep shows "loading", then "loading", then "loading", then ..... This won't stop until you turn off and then on and reconnect. Some time it fix the problem, some time it happens again after a while. The "a while" also not a certain period. Some time shorter, some time longer. I called Netgear CS and the solving method was plug direct into a wall outlet and change some numbers on the setting. It improved a little but dropping connection continues.

Other Thoughts: A stable connection is the basic for a router no matter how great the functions provided. My previous ASUS never had that happened until I used more and more device on WIFI. I Google and find this is not unusual for this r8000 has similar problems. As most people say this router has very good functions. What I hope NETGEAR really hear the sound and find a way to update the firmware and fix the problem.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello YIUKWAN,

We are sorry to hear that you are having issues with streaming Netflix and agree that your R8000 needs to be working perfectly! Whenever something isn't please let us know. 5 out of 5 eggsThis is the best consumer grade router I've ever used

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: Maintains connection with multiple devices streaming.
Never looses the connection to my home security camera's.
Never drops wireless devices like my previous router - a netgear x4 r7500 which also gets really hot.
GUI is really intuitive and easy to use.

Cons: I really wish that the antenna's were larger to extend the range more.
The netgear genie app isn't as good as using a regular web browser - and it's set up for apple safari.
For the price it should have more than 4 gigabit lan ports.
I wish that it had active cooling on it as lots of network traffic generates heat.

Other Thoughts: I had to purchase this from BB locally when my nighthawk r7500 failed suddenly. Since installing this router I've not had any dropped connections to my wireless devices nor have my security camera's been disconnected from my lan. The setup gui is among the easiest I've used allowing you to get to everything quite easily. I've set up static ip's for my camera system which it maintains unlike the asus rt-ac3200 I tried before it. I keep it cool with a cooler master notpal x3 cooling pad underneath it. All in all it's the best router I've owned and I'd recommend it over the other models in the same price range.

4 out of 5 eggsUpgraded from a Netgear WNDR4000 after all the nephews brought thier wireless toys in 1 weekend & the WNDR4000 slowed down to crawl

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: No problems! Upgrade it to the latest firmware & keep it updated. Get the latest software from Netgear. I'm running it on all the bandwidths including 2.4 & 5GHZ. I have an WD external USB3 HDD hooked up to the X6 USB3 port. The X6 is on a completely 1GB network & it's really fast across all bandwidths.

Cons: There seems to be a problem with iPad/iPhone AirPrint since I still haven't been able to get it to accept & transmit print jobs to any non-AirPrint printer on the network. I've researched it & tried every possible recommended solution without any solution. To me this is a minor problem. If NetGear or anyone else has a solution, I'd like to know about it.

5 out of 5 eggsBest router I have used. Be sure to get the right AC band WiFi adapters for maximum performance.

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: Easy to setup and use. Very easy and reliable compared to many other routers I have used. I get over 700 Mbps average from clear across the house. It prioritizes connections based on devices and usage. Such as giving priority to higher demand devices over slower devices. Works extremely well with the Netgear AC band adapters at good range. Strong and fast signals at good distances.

I have stress tested it by having 6 HD movies streaming at once to various devices with other computers downloading large files. Does not noticeably slow anything down or interfere with video streaming.

Cons: None so far. And we have been using it for over a year. Some complaints that I have not experienced. But I suspect that inferior WiFi adapters are responsible for many of them. You get what you pay for.

Other Thoughts: If you want to go all out for the best WiFi service, use this and the Netgear AC adapters for it. You can split 2 different 5 Ghz channels to even out the loads. I am BEYOND impressed with how well this has worked inside our large house for all devices using 2.5 Ghz and 5 Ghz channels along with hardwired connections.

1 out of 5 eggsBootlooping and Terrible Customer Support

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: Extremely fast with great range and uptime when it worked.

Cons: After about 6 months my first router began bootlooping regardless of what firmware I loaded onto it. Latest, rollback, nothing worked.

Contacting Netgear's product support led to many disconnects and each rep telling me I ran out of over the phone tech support and were trying to make me purchase a tech support plan. Their reasoning was that they couldn't remote into the router for troubleshooting until I purchased the plan. They didn't understand that this router did not function long enough for even my own devices to stay connected for more than 30 seconds.

All I wanted was for this company to warrant the $300 product I purchased from them, not some technical support.

With enough fighting they finally sent me a replacement and lo and behold, this one did the same exact thing after a few weeks. Did not record serial number on original router so I do not know if they gave me mine back.

I'm lamenting calling back for another round of the "get this guy to buy our ****" again.

Other Thoughts: I will never purchase another Netgear router solely for how awful their product support is. I will be back to the motherboard brand that starts with A.

Manufacturer Response:

We'd like to clear up the confusion and also help you get your R8000 working like it was for the original six months. We can help you under the hardware warranty - which is separate from the 90 days of complimentary support. When you find a moment please email us with any case numbers support gave you, a link to this review, and anything else that you think can help speed things up on our side.

5 out of 5 eggsPurchased it since launch - NO Issues

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: - Extremely powerful
- NO Connections issues since owned for more than 6+ months
- Replaced my R7000 Router with this
- Never have to reboot to make it work properly other thatn at the time of updating firmware.

Cons: - Initially had some issues with connections dropage but once had first firmware update everything is fine since than.
- Only CON - should have built in time limit in parental control for certain devices

Other Thoughts: Really great - dont know why people are posting that it keeps losing connection. If you update firmware regularly that it should not have any issues.

1 out of 5 eggsFrequent dropout both wired and wireless

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: None.

Cons: This router, after weeks of troubleshooting, continues to disconnect frequently. Often times disconnecting, then reconnecting for a few minutes, then remaining disconnected for extended periods of time. IP conflicts occur regularly, both on wired and wireless connections. Wifi bands often become unavailable, and when they are available -- have terribly short range (but decent throughput) and have a very hard time transmitting through walls.

I have changed frequencies of the channels, performed firmware updates, and ran thoroughly through settings for anything I've overlooked. I initially thought it was the internet provider, but without a network tester, it was hard to tell where the dropouts were coming from.

After having a technician from our provider visit our house, he gave me a particularly interesting piece of information:

He has visited quite a few customers, all with the R8000 AC3200 router, all with the same connection issues.

This router was intended to be purchased as an upgrade, and my ancient single band N router delivered better performance both wired and wireless, reliably, for years. I remember having resetting that router maybe 5 times during its multi year life.

I say with the utmost confidence that there is a major design flaw with this router, and it has become clear after reading numerous reviews that this is obviously apparent.

BUYER BEWARE.

Manufacturer Response:

We are very sorry for the weeks you've spent troubleshooting and want to work with you to get the drops fixed. Please email us at netgearteam@netgear.com whenever a problem occurs and we will do our best to prevent it from happening again. Make sure to include a copy and paste of your review and anything else that can speed things up on our end.

We look forward to helping you with the R8000 and once again apologize for your time.

Regards,

NETGEAR Team

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well, very good range

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: Great range
Easy to setup
WPS works well

Cons: DHCP reservations do not work until router is rebooted

Other Thoughts: Installed in a storage room in my basement and no issues with signal throughout the house including two floors up on the opposite side. Have had very little issues, might have rebooted it twice because of lack of connectivity since purchasing it. Usually have about 5 devices wired and 7 - 8 wireless connected at once without issues.
