5 out of 5 eggsPurchased it since launch - NO Issues

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: - Extremely powerful
- NO Connections issues since owned for more than 6+ months
- Replaced my R7000 Router with this
- Never have to reboot to make it work properly other thatn at the time of updating firmware.

Cons: - Initially had some issues with connections dropage but once had first firmware update everything is fine since than.
- Only CON - should have built in time limit in parental control for certain devices

Other Thoughts: Really great - dont know why people are posting that it keeps losing connection. If you update firmware regularly that it should not have any issues.

1 out of 5 eggsFrequent dropout both wired and wireless

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: None.

Cons: This router, after weeks of troubleshooting, continues to disconnect frequently. Often times disconnecting, then reconnecting for a few minutes, then remaining disconnected for extended periods of time. IP conflicts occur regularly, both on wired and wireless connections. Wifi bands often become unavailable, and when they are available -- have terribly short range (but decent throughput) and have a very hard time transmitting through walls.

I have changed frequencies of the channels, performed firmware updates, and ran thoroughly through settings for anything I've overlooked. I initially thought it was the internet provider, but without a network tester, it was hard to tell where the dropouts were coming from.

After having a technician from our provider visit our house, he gave me a particularly interesting piece of information:

He has visited quite a few customers, all with the R8000 AC3200 router, all with the same connection issues.

This router was intended to be purchased as an upgrade, and my ancient single band N router delivered better performance both wired and wireless, reliably, for years. I remember having resetting that router maybe 5 times during its multi year life.

I say with the utmost confidence that there is a major design flaw with this router, and it has become clear after reading numerous reviews that this is obviously apparent.

BUYER BEWARE.

Manufacturer Response:

We are very sorry for the weeks you've spent troubleshooting and want to work with you to get the drops fixed. Please email us at netgearteam@netgear.com whenever a problem occurs and we will do our best to prevent it from happening again. Make sure to include a copy and paste of your review and anything else that can speed things up on our end.

We look forward to helping you with the R8000 and once again apologize for your time.

Regards,

NETGEAR Team

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well, very good range

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: Great range
Easy to setup
WPS works well

Cons: DHCP reservations do not work until router is rebooted

Other Thoughts: Installed in a storage room in my basement and no issues with signal throughout the house including two floors up on the opposite side. Have had very little issues, might have rebooted it twice because of lack of connectivity since purchasing it. Usually have about 5 devices wired and 7 - 8 wireless connected at once without issues.

1 out of 5 eggsAnother BIG Dissappointment from Netgear

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: None to be paying the premium price.

Cons: As good as any N900 router but this has a AC tag to it. 2.4 band has the known issue which Netgear has been trying to resolve with firmware updates for so long but has not been able to(neither on AC3200 nor on AC5300). Netgear Customer support SUCK's they are only upto making money even when the router was into just its second day(remember Netgear routers have 90 days of free support), the support made some irrelevant excuses asking me to pay for some extra support to check things outside router which was actually not needed. Netgear support have become predictable as I have owned many Netgear products.

Other Thoughts: I am not a amateur or a rookie for that matter. I have been in this tech world long enough to understand it well. I recently downgraded from Netgear Nighthawk X8 AC5300 which has DITTO same issue on its 2.4 band just like this one did. I have already mentioned this issue in my AC5300 review.

I would not recommend this Netgear X6 AC3200 till it gets a proper firmware upgrade. Disappointed that this product has been around for more than a year and still has issues. NO MORE Netgear stuff......I am done with wasting time with the Netgear support.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

We apologize for your time and are sorry to hear that support hasn't been helpful. Don't forget, that along with the 90 days of support, you also get a one year hardware warranty. For help under the hardware warranty, and to contact us directly, simply email us at netgearteam@netgear.com. In this instance you are going to want to include a copy and paste of your review along with any past case numbers that you have.

We look forward to making this right with the R8000. We appreciate you being a loyal NETGEAR customer and want nothing more than to keep it that way.

Regards,

NETGEAR Team

5 out of 5 eggsBeast of Router

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: I purchased this last year when our old router failed. I had to get it locally due to immediate need so I bought it from local big box retailer. (Newegg is cheaper).

This is absolutely the most reliable router I have had. No problems running 24/7 for over a year in house with 6-8 people depending on the month 4 teenagers and everyone with mobile devices - phones/laptops, 2 game systems and 2 desktops. At peak we have 12+ devices attached to the three networks at a time and we have no bandwidth problems, The secret is to assign different devices to different networks so you do not get bottle necking. I covers our entire 2800 sq ft house upper and lower floors with no dead spots. Net Genie is easy to set up and the parental controls let you limit access to internet content and set time blocks. Overall I am 100% satisfied with this router.

Cons: Pricey, not needed for everyone.

Other Thoughts: Look for sales, update firmware when available to keep it current. You get what you pay for - a reliable, high end, high speed router.

5 out of 5 eggsSimply Awesome

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: I was a Asus Router fan and used nothing else.. I had some major issues with my new 2700 ac high speed Asus router and decided to change. Netgear has really made a nice user friendly router. It is fast and so far very reliable device. The speeds that are advertised are real. Sorry Asus not coming back to the dark side.

Cons: Mobile app and nice menu system. For you newbies the Netgear Genie makes it pretty easy to set up for the first time. FYI, it does not get that hot during operation as compared to my Asus routers. With six antennas that can be positioned to help you stay connected anywhere in the house. three active WiFi one 2.4 g and two 5 g too choose from.... This thing connect my media center and all the devices on our network with ease. I highly recommend and Newegg is a great place to buy it...

Other Thoughts: Everything works the WiFi stays connected and does not kick you offline.

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: Tech Support is very polite.

Cons: After my Prior review NG tech team requested me to contact tech support for resolution. I did, and have not heard back. They are a busy group, since this router provides them with a lot of items in need of correction.
I returned the original router, acquired a replacement. Worked wonderfully for two days this time. Then the connection would drop out frequently, no matter how the antennae were positioned.
I called Tech Support this morning. Router would not connect, then it did for an hour, and then disconnected. CS tech tried a few things, told me to restart my computer. In the middle of the restart we were disconnected, and he did not call back within the 60 seconds as promised at the start of the call. No matter, the connection was made, and life went on for two hours.
Disconnected again. Called tech support again, gave them the case number from two hours previous, but this CS rep stated that no such case number existed. Gave me another case number, reset the router, changed the channel numbers, and almost promised that I would have better results. Except not only did we not have better results, we had no results, as now the connection could not be made at all. His suggestion was that if these changes failed to maintain connections then the router was defective, and I should send it back. I consider that an excellent idea for anyone who has had any expectation that a $300 router would actually function as described.
However if you need to talk to someone, tech support will be available for you. It appears that making the router function as described is not something that Net gear is able to do, but they will talk to you. Lower your expectation of them making corrections to enable the router to work and you will be pleased. I am not pleased at all. 2 for 2 is not a good product, particularly for the price. This one is going back and will not be replaced by any Net Gear products. The Tech team said they wanted me back as a customer. I believe they are sincere, but the product is the problem, and its defects cannot be overlooked. If you want a router from this manufacturer, then do understand you take a tremendous risk of wasting your time and money trying to get this product to function. I truly desired a good product, but this manufacturer failed to deliver. Be warned.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi SteveLB,

First of all, we can't thank you enough for your honesty and patience. We understand your frustration and want to get to the bottom of this. If you have the time, we'd appreciate it if you could email us again at netgearteam@netgear.com, and include your Newegg reviewer name in the email (so we know 100% that it is you) Even if you have already returned the R8000, we want to ensure that we follow up on this. Thanks again for your patience.

Regards,

NETGEAR Team

5 out of 5 eggsNighthawk Solved My Issues

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: I have tons of gaming devices on my network. For years i've had bad NAT issues. I tried multiple brands as well as custom firmwares like Tomato and DD-WRT. This router solved everything. I finally get open NAT on my Xbox and NAT Type 2 on my PS4.

Cons: For $300, i'd like double the ports it has. But nothing a switch can't fix.

This review is from: NETGEAR R8000-100NAS Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band Gigabit Wireless Router

Pros: Easy setup, easy firmware upgrade, easy access to Tech Service. Works great on CAT-6 Ethernet cables.

Cons: Worked wonderfully for the first two hours. Then the wireless connection to my laptop quit. Checked the router and all the lights were flashing. The router went berserk, but the CS rep insisted my laptop was incompatible with the router. Really?? then why did it work for the first two hours?? And how did my computer make your router go bonkers? No amount of polite inquiry to the CS rep could elicit an intelligent answer, only the same merry-go-round, your laptop is not compatible. Then why did it work at all?? Your laptop is not compatible. Any one else there to talk to? No, he is busy, call back in two hours. Nothing more the CS could do except repeat the Netgear mantra, your computer is not compatible, you need a new computer.
If you want any hair remaining on your scalp avoid buying this router.
CS rep alternate solution was to go to 54Mb and change the WPA-2 to WPA. Why does my laptop work at another location for the last 6 years with WPA-2? And why did my previous router work with WPA-2 before that transmitter died? CS rep repeated the Netgear mantra again.
I paid $300 for slow speed? Problems only arose after the Netgear router went berserk. Do not expect any assistance from Tech support. The man was nice and polite, but had no resolution in the end. A colossal waste of time and money in my experience.

Manufacturer Response:

Hey Stephen,

We can't apologize for the way that the support member handled your case and would like to investigate. Please email us with the case numbers he gave you as well as a copy and paste of your review. Also include any other information that can help us assist you faster.
