4 out of 5 eggsgreat idea, could see where this may be a great option

This review is from: Netgear PLP1200-100PAS HomePlug AV2 MIMO AV1200 Powerline Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Kit with Pass-Thru, up to 1200Mbps

Pros: Able to run a network over electric outlets

Cons: connection speed isn't the greatest in my case but it is better than nothing - speed changes and drops down to < 5Mbps in my case (read other info to understand why)

Other Thoughts: i am using this as a connection to get internet to my barn. I know sounds odd, but I wanted to have the ability to get internet for streaming music or searching internet when working on cars etc. seems to work okay for this use. My electric to the to the barn is really not good and i plan to replace electric line so I am not blaming the product for the connection rates. i was able to plug in an additional wireless router into this and have wireless in the barn. This is working going through 2 electric boxes also.

5 out of 5 eggsPlugged in, worked perfectly!

This review is from: Netgear PLP1200-100PAS HomePlug AV2 MIMO AV1200 Powerline Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Kit with Pass-Thru, up to 1200Mbps

Pros: - Very easy setup and configuration ... literally plug-and-play.
- Excellent throughput in a home with older wiring.
- Allowed me to reconfigure my home network so as to eliminate a WiFi extender, while retaining full-home coverage.

Cons: - None so far.

Other Thoughts: I held off purchasing a powerline adapter kit because I expected poor performance in my mid-70s home with aging wiring, but this kit has performed exceptionally. Installation was literally plug-and-play, the adapters immediately recognized each other and were able to connect with optimal throughput, and subsequent speed testing showed equivalent or better performance than I had via the previous home network topology. I'd recommend this kit to anyone with an older or hard to connect home, and I'm now considering adding extra adapters to the mix in order to directly connect my HDTV (instead of it's current WiFi connectivity).

4 out of 5 eggspositive upgrade over av1

This review is from: Netgear PLP1200-100PAS HomePlug AV2 MIMO AV1200 Powerline Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Kit with Pass-Thru, up to 1200Mbps

Pros: my home powerline network was getting a little sluggish, being taxed by the wireless access point and my siblings two macbooks torrenting. I felt an upgrade was in order. I tried this before but I bought a Zyxel pair which was regrettable. It was very unreliable so I plugged back in my netgear first gen powerline networking units and waited...

a few times I was about to get the netgear av500, something not too pricey and with a speed upgrade, but luckily the 1200 av2 went on sale with a rebate to book. I snagged it in a hurry.

Received it from newegg express shipping after a business day and plugged one of the units in the living to access the broadband modem and the other in my room, and voila, about a 20% speed upgrade. It may not sound like much but this upgrade margin perks up my internet connectivity with a lot less lag than the old units.

thus far, solid uptime and reliability. seamless upgrade. can take everything you throw at it.

Cons: doesn't totally block the second top plug in an outlet, you can plug both in, but not 100% in, this maybe a little dangerous, make sure no other wiring or wires, or kids can poke around near it.

Other Thoughts: have had the best reliability and up time with netgear powerline networking. will not switch brands

3 out of 5 eggsIf only it were more stable

This review is from: Netgear PLP1200-100PAS HomePlug AV2 MIMO AV1200 Powerline Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Kit with Pass-Thru, up to 1200Mbps

Pros: It works when it does

Cons: Every day my connections goes from working to a yellow triangle with the exclamation point it happens 3 to 5 times each day... I have changed the ethernet cables each time and still the same issue arises.

Other Thoughts: Since I can't get a stable wi-fi connection to the room I need it in, figured to have try this product, but unfortunately it has its hiccups, yet it does work better than trying to get wireless connection to be stable or work.

Manufacturer Response:

We apologize that your PLP1200 isn't working at all times. As soon as you notice an issue like this, please email us so we can get it fixed. You just need to include a link to this review, your ISP, current firmware, serial number, and zip code.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat speeds but I get intermittent connection drops

This review is from: Netgear PLP1200-100PAS HomePlug AV2 MIMO AV1200 Powerline Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Kit with Pass-Thru, up to 1200Mbps

Pros: Speeds are faster than other powerline adapters.

Cons: I get random intermittent drops of the connection between rooms for 3-5 seconds. Don't have this problem with the other powerline adapters that were in the same outlets previously.

Was worse in Windows 10 than on Windows 7. Disconnection of the Ethernet port or unplugging and re plugging the powerline adapter fixes it immediately.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Mahlon,

We want to see what is causing the connection problem with your Powerline and get it fixed right away. Please email us with a copy and paste of your review and the serial number of your unit-- make sure to include any other details that can speed things up on our end.

Our apologies,

NETGEAR Team

1 out of 5 eggsNew electrical system only

This review is from: Netgear PLP1200-100PAS HomePlug AV2 MIMO AV1200 Powerline Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Kit with Pass-Thru, up to 1200Mbps

Pros: Its a great idea to buy these only if you have a brand new house

Cons: I verified that my electrical distribution panel was compatible and it was... When i plugged them in the same room i didn't lost speed(about 66mbps on speedtest.net ) but when i plugged One adapter downstairs ans One upstairs my integrated wifi card was faster than this (25mbps on netgear adapter and 40mbps on wifi). Netgear make great product but for 110$ i was expecting more

Manufacturer Response:

Hey Tristan,

We want to apologize that your PLP1200 isn't working perfectly for you at the moment and would like to offer you advanced assistance. Please email us at netgearteam@netgear.com whenever you get a moment so we can help. Make sure you include a copy and paste of your review along with the serial number of your Powerline.

5 out of 5 eggsWork great

This review is from: Netgear PLP1200-100PAS HomePlug AV2 MIMO AV1200 Powerline Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Kit with Pass-Thru, up to 1200Mbps

Pros: Doubled speed from router to HTPC. Both in separate rooms.
Easy setup. Pug and play.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I had a HDHomerun Connect connected and streaming via wifi. (HDRH ->Router->Wifi->HTPC) It worked, but it seemed like it was dropping packets, thus degrading TV video quality.
Installed these powerline adapters and in 5 minutes I had perfect TV quality, no drops, no issues whatsoever.

File transfer speed increased from 50Mbps to 125Mbps.
(YMMV)

Great devices for extending network without having to install cat 6 cables.

5 out of 5 eggsNetgear PLP1200

This review is from: Netgear PLP1200-100PAS HomePlug AV2 MIMO AV1200 Powerline Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Kit with Pass-Thru, up to 1200Mbps

Pros: I did my research on Powerline adapters and this one was reviewed as one of the best.

I was concerned about having to have the adapter on the same fuse/circuit. I did not. It worked flawlessly over multiple breakers.

Easy to install.

Much faster than wireless and resolved the endless loading time while streaming.

Cons: none

1 out of 5 eggsPoor quality

This review is from: Netgear PLP1200-100PAS HomePlug AV2 MIMO AV1200 Powerline Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Kit with Pass-Thru, up to 1200Mbps

Pros: Got here ok. Ethernet cables included. We have a lot of Netgear products and been very impressed with Netgear quality in the past.

Cons: Followed directions - hooked up the units with the new Ethernet cables that came with the units. Hooked up the 1st unit to the router, Ethernet light came up. Looks good.
However, no matter where we put the 2nd unit, across the room, on a different floor, even next to the 1st unit,... everywhere we could try, could not get the 2 unit to connect. We tried swapping numerous laptops, desktops, ... no luck. We even traced the electrical wiring to make sure they are on the same circuit breaker, no luck.
We wasted so much time and were ready to give up. Then we tried it with a old cable and it now appears to work. It never occurred to us that they would send a defective cable without first testing it!
Still testing the unit now that it seems to be working at least intermittently (the internet connections seems to cut out once in a while-just flashes then goes dark).
We are very disappointed with Netgear's quality control of such a simple thing as an Ethernet cable. Wasted so much of our time and caused so much frustrations.
