Good at first. Then it's a pain.
- Pros: Bought this in 2006 or so. I wanted to play my Xbox while browsing the internet on the computer. It worked perfectly for a few months.
- Cons: It was a pain to set up. I don't really remember the problem...something freezing on the setup disk or something? Anyway we were on the phone with Linksys for about an hour before we discovered what was wrong. I don't remember what it was exactly though.
After a few months it started dropping my internet connection regularly, which was about 8:00 each night. Contacted Linksys and they didn't know what was wrong. This progressively got worse, eventually it was dropping the connection about every hour and it was very very slow. It ended up finding a nice comfy spot in my closet for a few years.
I recently decided to get it back out again and see if I could find a way to work with it because I was tired of switching my internet cable back and fourth from my Xbox to my computer. I never bought another router because I just didn't want to try another. I felt like it would do the same thing.
So when I hook it up again...waddayaknow. It works like a charm.
- Other Thoughts: ...Or it did. Here I am now about a month later and it's starting to drop my connection again. Also for some weird reason I can't share media from my PC to my Xbox. I talked with an Xbox tech (who was very knowledgeable of problems with this exact router O_o) and he said a lot of people had problems with media sharing and this router. We disabled my firewalls and antivirus and opened all ports needed to share media. Enabled something called Multicast Filtering which solved most people's problems...Nada.
Do NOT buy this router!
Linksys
- Pros: Works great
- Cons: Non
worked for a while
- Pros: When it worked it was fine
Easy to forward ports
- Cons: (I've had it for about 6-7 months)
I had no problems with this router from the day I bought it up till about 2 weeks ago then I started noticing my connection was constantly dropping, I'd be in the middle of a game and it would drop...Like someone else said the connection dropping went from happening once a week to once a day to several times per day.
I replaced it with a d-link switch about 2 hours ago and my connection hasn't dropped once and it wont drop at all because that horrible linksys router was causing all the problems.
- Other Thoughts: It might, just maybe work at first but expect problems later on.
Avoid, Go out and get yourself a better router, I suggest an orange (the fruit), Take the orange and stick the main cable into it then take another cable and run it from the orange to your PC, 100% guarantee you will have better connectivity.
