4 out of 5 eggsWRT54GR - Good Range/Signal

Pros: As others have stated, do not use supplied disc unless not familiar with configuring routers. No speed lag experienced that I had on my WAP54G access points. Solid, doesn't seem to have an firmware bugs thus far. Very good strong signal at full 100 power. Covers 1,900 square feet (up/downstairs) with almost 4 out of 5 bars in most corners of the house. Dipped to 3/5 on the farthest reaches. Which is still excellent and normally will auto negotiate speed to 48Mbps.

Cons: None so far, very stable, have not had to power cycle or reset for any reason, it's been online for a little over a month now. If you can go 6 months or more without a powercycle (other then due to ISP then it is a solid product).

4 out of 5 eggsReview Followup

Pros: Small form factor, more stylish than competing linksys models. It is a fast router and the range about ties a WRT54GL with the Xmit power turned up to 70 which is pretty good. This is with pairing the WRT54GR with a WMP54G wireless card. It is faster than a wired connection after TCP Optimizer and overall decent.

Cons: Uses the Ralink chipset, which cant flash to hacked firmware such as DD-WRT, not 1 firmware update and one will never come out.

Other Thoughts: Decent router but you may want to get a WRT54GL and tweak it since they're both similar in price. Personally I have owned the WRT54GR, WRT300N, and WRT54GL and I sold my WRT300N and im selling my GR for thirty five dollars

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid this router

Pros: None

Cons: No WPA 2 support. Slow speeds. Needs restarted often. While this is supposed to be a upgrade over the wrt54g, it doesn't have the same features, reliability or support. The firmware has never and will never be updated by Linksys.

1 out of 5 eggsno more than 3mbps

Pros: Um.. its small, no dead spots, but not helpful with no speed

Cons: It gets no more than 3000kbps, on a 10.2mbps connection (It gets this if i plug my comps in with a cat5 cable).

Other Thoughts: This router is useless without speed, I would much rather sacrifice a little range, for speed since its more important

2 out of 5 eggsPoor wired and wireless speed

Pros: Wonderful administration portal, flexible port mapping, and custom routing capabilities,

Cons: Bad performance. I get 4000-5000kbps download 350k upload without router , with the wrt54gr I get 250k down 300k up? Tried everything, even disabling wireless, but couldn't get to work properly with our Comcast cable. Old netgrear wired router works great.

Other Thoughts: I am returning the and going with ZyXEL X-550

5 out of 5 eggsgreat tech support

Pros: I'm new to wireless, so contacted linksys tech support when windows xp cached the SSID and was stuck on wep even though I changed to WPA (and because my card didn't work with aea only tkip.) Their live chat support was truly outstanding and walked me through getting my non-linksys wireless card to work with their router. The router looks great, is simple to setup, and their tech support gives you 110% support. I will buy more linksys products in the future based on the excellent support.

Cons: manual and documentation with the router is a waste of ink as it's all gloss and no information for when you run into problems (if everything goes smoothly, you don't really need the manual in the first place), but tech support makes up for it, and more.
