5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Cisco Router

Pros: Works as expected for a Cisco router with just enough custom configurations.

Cons: The user interface ins't the best but it gets the job done

Other Thoughts: The other router I would buy is the one I would setup with Arch Linux O.S..

5 out of 5 eggsTop shelf router

Pros: Solid as a rock with more than enough throughput for gaming and streaming with multiple devices.

Cons: Not really a con, but I had to disable the outdated IPS feature or I'd get a blip in connection now and again. Takes a few seconds to switch it off in the console.

1 out of 5 eggsNo iPhone support

Pros: Works great as a Gigabit router

Cons: Does not support iphone or ipad.

Other Thoughts: You would think that a device that supports iPsec from Cisco would work with the Cisco branded IPSEC on the IPhone.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Router

Pros: Rich in features and amazing longevity (bought 10/22/2006 and still going). Great for small office or home networks. Throughput has been solid.

Cons: It did have a early firmware issues which may be some of the negative review causes. Currently running firmware version 1.3.0.5 and it is has been solid. Unfortunately, this may be near or coming to it's end of support life.

Other Thoughts: Like with any router system it is a matter of who is behind it and Cisco is a proven company.

1 out of 5 eggsAwful, abysmal, terrible

Pros: Looks good, easy to setup, good throughput.

Cons: Have two of them for offsite VPN's and one is slowly dying, and the other one is right behind it. VPN has been working flawlessly up until a month ago. Now I get to waste an entire day provisioning 2 more VPN's. Junk, don't waste your time.

1 out of 5 eggsCisci RVS4000 Dead out of the box

Pros: none

Cons: Would not connect to the computer. tried it on another computer and had same issue. Windows7 said it was set up properly but the device wasnt working. On the phone with Cisco for 2 hours and had to wait 2 hours for them to call back while I was sitting there with the customer. Did not make a great impression.

Other Thoughts: Even though the tech support was very nice they seemed limited on what they could do and of course it was a overseas call center.

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable

Pros: Feature rich

Cons: Doesn't work

Other Thoughts: Constant lockups, weekly rebooting, and failed connections caused me to eventually dump this thing. Please do not buy this product.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Pros: Very flexible for an inexpensive commercial grade router.

Cons: Nothing

Other Thoughts: Have installed twenty or so of these in the past two years with no issues. I also use these same routers in all my office and VPN is a snap. Have had one up for 1 year straight with no problem. Like any router or sensitive device you should always have them plugged into a UPS device.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat router, no lockups

Pros: Very configurable, does vpn's acl's very easily. never had a lockup once like the other reviewers. Mine was refurbished and I paid $50 or so.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I am not sure why people are having this lockup issue. I have 6 pc's and two WAP's running at any given moment and have never had an issue. There may be other reasons for the apparent lockup that rebooting the router solves.

2 out of 5 eggsCheap but you get what you pay for

Pros: IPS and Multiple DHCP Scopes with VLAN Support for people wanting to create guest networks (this is huge for this price point). GbE is a plus but most people don't have 1Gbps connections into their homes so the only advantage to this is internally it makes a decent switch. Most people would be fine with a "100Mbps" Firewall since most home connections are less than 100Mbps (as of 2012 or unless you are a lucky person and have Google Fiber).

Cons: Slow performance, un-reliable, sometimes NAT (called Port Forwarding here) and the Firewall's ACL will just plain break and start behaving strangely (sometimes traffic that you tell the device to permit will only permit if you access the web console and toggle the rule on and off while you are trying to connect the device). Throughput with the IPS turned on drops sometimes, the firewall logs are not detailed enough even when using a Syslog server. This device feels more like a Linksys device that was made to have Cisco features.

Other Thoughts: Avoid this product if you need good features you could build an open source firewall with Pfsense like I did (use old hardware and buy cheap Intel NIC's) or go with the tried and true RV042 if you have to have Cisco. It doesn't have an IPS (which most home users don't need anyway) and I don't believe it can handle multiple DHCP scopes which are extremely important if you want to set up an isolated "Guest/Public" network using a single device.
