5 out of 5 eggsExcellent hardware

Pros: Setup was a breeze, had the wireless working in no time! Works with Windows Vista!

Cons: Price, I could have bought a wireless router for the same price.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat hardware, but a bit old hat.

Pros: Robust, supports RADIUS and both the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz segments can operate independently, even with differnt security settings. Very reliable and has never required a reboot.

Cons: No support for WPA2, no firmware updates since 2005, antennas are not removable (although the built-in ones are quite good).

Other Thoughts: This product, along with the WRT55AG, both seem to be abandoned by Linksys ever since Cisco bought them. They're very capable, but are frozen in time two years ago.

3 out of 5 eggsNice when it works

Pros: Convienient A/G package. User interface is easy to work with.

Cons: My unit goes through spells where it locks up. When it works, it is great, but, every so often it locks up and stops talking wired or wireless. Now that I put it where I can unplug it, it’s not too hard to reset it, even if it is annoying. I tried a UPS to filter the power and still have the same lock up problem.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great with MacBook Pro

Pros: Provides 802.11a in addition to 802.11g/b, both wireless standards can be separately enabled/disabled, good range, nice complement to an existing Linksys cable/dsl broadband router, 802.11a (and WPA security) works great with a MacBook Pro.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I bought this access point to add wireless networking to my existing setup (I also own a Linksys 4-port broadband router). I also wanted 802.11a, since it is rarely used by consumers (so less chance of competition on the airwaves) and is not affected by microwave ovens and such.

Well this access point works great with my MacBook Pro, utilizing 802.11a w/WPA security. Highly recommended!!!

p.s. While I could have gotten a combined router/access point for a similar price, I did not want/need both. Plus, being a security-conscious guy, it is nice to be able to pull the plug on the access point without affecting the wired network. And finally, being separate, you can grab the access point and take it with you without unwiring the rest of your network.
