2 out of 5 eggsWorse than routers at half the price.

Pros: It is easily configurable and the LAN side is stable.

Cons: Even though this is a multi-WAN router it relies on WAN1 for DMZ function. That means if WAN1 malfunctions you lose DMZ capability. I have two of these and the WAN bandwidth varies between 20-30Mbps. With 200Mbit firewall rating and 100Mbit ports, it should be able to achieve sustained rates of 80Mbits but it doesn't come close. The throughput is also unstable even though no port errors register. Several less expensive routers from other manufacturers can achieve better results. I am really disappointed with Cisco on this purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic Router

Pros: Fantastic Router, 0 Complaints! Never slows down, have multi site-to-site vpn's with no issues on the RV016 side. the thing never goes down!

Cons: 10/100 - Needs to have a few Gigabit Interfaces... Especially with todays internet speeds.

Other Thoughts: I have purchased a Cisco 2851 because of the interface speeds. other than that, flawless router!

1 out of 5 eggsMost Firewalls are worth the extra cost

Pros: 13 LAN usable ports, Load balancing/Failover WAN ports.

Cons: A price difference of $100 between this and the other I was looking at (Fortigate), Seemed to have the same features, but once delivered, those features were so poorly implimented, they are not usable in a standard sense. Such as the Dedicated DMZ port, in most firewalls I have used, this can be set to it's own subnet, and you can select ports that are open to the devices in the dmz.

Other Thoughts: This one is going back as soon as the other firewall gets here. Does not work as expected. Pay the extra money for quality equipment.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat purchase

Pros: Fast setup, simple UI, easily troubleshooted

Cons: had a few problems trying to change the default password. had to do a couple hard resets but got it figured out.

Other Thoughts: Overall decent piece of equipment. Mounted in my server rack without any problems. This is being used at home and is connected gateway to gateway with an RV042.

5 out of 5 eggsCISCO RV016

2 out of 5 eggsBAD

Pros: 7 port load balancing would rock if this thing worked, i like the software and the look of the hardware.

Cons: SLOW, load balancing screws up almost all secure sites with logins, really really slow at routing it seems. It has started to fail to respond to pings sometimes.

Other Thoughts: nice try but it falls short

1 out of 5 eggsJunk - Waste of Money

Pros: None

Cons: 15MB input and less than 1MB output (on a good day)! Worked well at first and then the throughput just went to hell. Forget any help from Linksys/Cisco. Google RV016 and you'll see this is a common problem. Even trying to upgrade the firmware was a pain in the but.

Other Thoughts: Too bad it doesn't work. It is just the right configuration and size for a small business. Would not recommend this product

3 out of 5 eggsCisco Anywhere Client

Pros: Most features work well.

Cons: The "RV" series of routers do NOT seem to work with Cisco Anywhere VPN Client. (Other cheaper Linksys & D-Link routers do work) Linksys will not troubleshoot 3rd. party software and considers ther parent company, Cisco, a 3rd. party (Also this router says Cisco on it). Cisco would NOT troubleshoot the issue either as we were the end user of the software and NOT THE OWNER, what a mess!!!! My wife works for a contractor company and the computer and software belong to anouther company yet. Linksys refunded the full price of this router for me.

Other Thoughts: The router just does not have the processing power to keep up with all the tasks the router can do. Also it needs a big up date to all Giga ports plus most of the other issues brought up in the other reviews.

5 out of 5 eggsVista Support

Pros: Great user supported Forums. Uses a standard 3-prong computer power cord.

Cons: Cons?

Other Thoughts: Vista support for the RV016 DOES EXIST and can be found at the Linksys website.

It's a convoluted nightmare to navigate to the Vista Support page though.

Linksys.com > Support tab > Customer Service > From the left side of this page choose Technical Service > Again on the left side you'll find the link titled "Linksys Windows Vista Support"

Likewise, the following link -might- work also:
"Linksys Windows Vista Support"

2 out of 5 eggsVista Issues

Pros: Works great with XP. I have 3 networks running on these for over a year with no issues.

Cons: NO Vista support! How do you make a business-class router and not bother to make it Vista compatible? Linksys has had plenty of time for a firmare upgrade, but according to their support they have no plans to fix this router's Vista issues.
