You just got your high speed modem (it could be cable, DSL, fiber optics . . . something nifty), and you've got your computers, and you've got your wireless interface cards. Now you need the final element: the router.

With four wired ports and the wireless connection, you're ready to take on the Internet and all it has to offer. Or maybe you just need a local network off the 'Net for your small office. Maybe you'll hook your desktop up by cable, and carry your wireless laptop to your favorite seat. Control and configuration are easy with browsers like Internet Explorer 8 or Firefox 3.0. (It's best to do your configuration from a hard-wired connection, not the wireless.)

Could this be the router for you? That's your decision, not ours. We'll be here, cheerfully waiting while you make up your mind.

3 out of 5 eggsOutdated

Pros: Reliable. Will not drop signal very often.

Cons: Instead of dropping signals, there will be times when latency and packet loss peak suddenly, causing a high number of ping spikes.

Other Thoughts: I've had this exact model of router since 2007. Having bought another one of these earlier this year, I find that it no longer satisfies my gaming needs. Earlier on, this router was amazing. For the past year or so, it's been frustrating at best.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good wireless range
Easy to configure

Cons: Began it's death throes just after 3 years

Other Thoughts: What happened, Linksys? I thought this router was going to last me for over a decade, eventually being relegated to more mundane tasks as it became outdated. Instead, after about 3 years the internet connection to all of my devices began to get flakey. After hours of troubleshooting, I find that this router was dying a slow death.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's Far Out, & I Like it!!

Pros: Low price (well, it's from Newegg...what'd y'expect?). Pretty blue lights, not just all green & yellow (I know...Is this guy for real??). The best part - it has NOT slowed down my internet speed one iota, jot, or tittle. Amazing!! I was told it would, by more than one "expert", but...nope. Before the installation, which, by the way, took maybe five minutes, my download speed averaged about 25.1 - 25.7 Mbps, straight modem into my box. I installed the router so my wife and I could operate my Asus Infinity Tf700t 10" tablet in the living room, about 15 feet from the router and that also was a snap - the Infinity recognized it instantly! Very nice. The download speed is still 25.7 Mbps - hasn't changed, dropped, etc. Great service! Thank you Newegg.

Cons: None at this date. Doubt there will be.

Pros: Great when it worked.

Cons: Stopped working one month out of warranty. Power just blinks. Resset doesn't help. Should have bought a better product! :-(

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Worked great till it started slowing down 5ish years later. Looking to buy a new router because the speed on this has slowed over the last 6 months. 4.5 yrs of good service earns 5 eggs from me. Plug and play. Debating buying it again or go with N, still not sure

Cons: It didn't last forever

5 out of 5 eggsSolid performer!

Pros: Stable, connects quickly upon computer wake up.
Lots of history about this router with lots of firmware to try or just use the stock stuff.

Cons: For what this router is designed to do, I can't think of any. It's stable and quick. A solid performer.

Other Thoughts: I normally will buy the latest and greatest router. I will sometimes buy cheap ones on sale, try them out, then sell them. I geek out like that. It's how I roll. So, with all the buzz and huge fan-base about this router, I thought I'd give it a shot. I was very impressed with the solid performance of it. Some routers I've used can work fine when first set-up, then they tend to lose performance as they become acquainted with the surrounding neighbor's routers and try to compete. I know to change the channel to a less busy one, but many people don't know how to tweak their settings. I play XBOX and was getting moderate NAT on Black Ops II. I followed Linksys' Port Triggering/Port Forwarding sticky on their website, rebooted the router and Open NAT. I don't do any local file transfers and have no attached storage devices so I don't need high transfer speeds. If you need a router for your parents or grandma, this little baby rocks! Set it and forget it. Highly recommend.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat router

Pros: If your looking for a great router buy this. I needed a new router that would allow open NAT on multiple xbox's. This router does that, no setup required jus plug n play. Don't listen to the few ppl that say you can't set a static ip to devices, because with this router you can. If you get this on sale like I did its a steal. All an all this is a great router.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely stable network

Pros: Absolutely stable network for over a month straight!

Cons: The "setup" disk is poorly structured and is a probably a waste of time. I used it in just so I didn't mess anything up, but in retrospect, I don't think it did anything I couldn't have done through the normal 192 menu.

1 out of 5 eggsNo reserved ip address feature

Pros: None

Cons: This unit does not allow for setting reserved assigned IPs to certain devices. If you own a game system like a PS3 or Xbox which often need an static IP, this router won't help you. If you want this functionality, you will basically need to load custom firmware on it.

This device is basically worthless to me because of this feature. I am extremely annoyed they would even dare to make a device without such an absolutely necessary feature. I may never buy LinkSys again.
