1 out of 5 eggswon't buy linksys again

Pros: none

Cons: Linksys support was snooty, and were unwilling to help unless you paid them $14.

Other Thoughts: bought a cheap netgear instead.

5 out of 5 eggsBack in service

Pros: Works fine and lasts a long time. Does everything it was designed to do. THE most stable and reliable router I've ever experienced.

I started putting these in friends and family homes ~8 years ago, and many are still in service. If all they need is internet access, a couple Ethernet ports and basic Wi-Fi, then why should they upgrade?

Cons: Old. This technology is very old. Look at the date of the first review. Other than firmware updates, this thing hasn't changed in 10 YEARS!!! That's 53 dog years and, what, 90 computer years? Do not expect it to have all the latest and greatest -- it doesn't.

I can't talk to the problems people are reporting now. All the models I can talk about are several years old, and steady as a rock. I've never seen one of these fail. Linksys does have some fairly recent (2013) firmware.

Other Thoughts: My shiny new 802.11ac router with all the bells and whistles just blew out it's radio. No Wi-Fi at all. RMA time.

Guess which router just went back into service? Yep, old reliable WRT54GL with rotten old 802.11g wifi is doing the job again. Cool, slow and steady. Old reliable.

4 out of 5 eggsIs it worth buying?

Pros: The pros about this item is its price. Really cheap for something that is worth it! The router has not giving me a lot of trouble, and I hope it stays the same. It has a really easy set up that almost anyone can follow, the price is reasonable and the work that it does, it is well performed.

Cons: Sometimes tend to drop the connection to the devices but gets back up really quickly. Other than that, there is the only con I have seen on this product so far.

Other Thoughts: I would say it is worth buying this product.

1 out of 5 eggsBad batch?

Pros: Price.

Cons: Constantly resetting to get connectivity and its getting worse. I tried to load DD-WRT firmware and it was so unstable I barely got the stock firmware loaded back on. I also tried with different versions of the DD-WRT firmware. A friend bought this router also. He is having the same troubles. I assume it was a bad batch of routers seeing how everyone else rates it so high.

Other Thoughts: Would like to get it replaced but I waited too long.

3 out of 5 eggsSolid, but not fast

Pros: Excellent interface and wired performance.

Cons: Poor wireless performance for streaming. Should have read more about it first.

5 out of 5 eggsRuns cool and never quits.

Pros: I've been using one of these routers for years. It gives coverage to devices in an 1800 square foot house. It has never dropped a connection once. I'm glad Cisco kept this baby on the market after they bought out Link Sys. Good move on their part.

Cons: There are no 'cons.'

Other Thoughts: The complaints I see about this router are most likely the result of faulty installation by the user.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat wireless router

Pros: This is a great router. Very easy to configure and lots of options. I am using it as a DMZ router connected to my firewall. I like that you can easily set it up: so that it does not broadcast the SSID, use WPA2 encryption, set a list of MAC addresses so that only your devices can connect. Never had a single issue with it in over a year.

Cons: None
