You just got your high speed modem (it could be cable, DSL, fiber optics . . . something nifty), and you've got your computers, and you've got your wireless interface cards. Now you need the final element: the router.

With four wired ports and the wireless connection, you're ready to take on the Internet and all it has to offer. Or maybe you just need a local network off the 'Net for your small office. Maybe you'll hook your desktop up by cable, and carry your wireless laptop to your favorite seat. Control and configuration are easy with browsers like Internet Explorer 8 or Firefox 3.0. (It's best to do your configuration from a hard-wired connection, not the wireless.)

Could this be the router for you? That's your decision, not ours. We'll be here, cheerfully waiting while you make up your mind.

5 out of 5 eggsBest router for the money, bar none

Pros: - Flashable with free third party software
- Inexpensive
- Absolute workhorse

Cons: - A little on the large side, but, who cares?

Other Thoughts: I have 3 of these in my home, one as a router and two as a bridge. I've set up DD-WRT on all of them (had to to get the bridge mode) and I have to say, that these little guys are, dollar for dollar, the best router money can buy for most everyday needs.

There's a reason there are over 3,000 reviews and the average rating is 5/5.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Router

Pros: This is a great router than does its job with little fuss. Running over a year and have never had an issue. That being said anything that I really care about for speed or reliability I hard wire, the wi-fi is just for netbooks, apple products, printers, etc.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Every good nerd owns one of these and is running dd-wrt, the 3rd party firmware is great and gives the ability to use feature that would normally only be found on high end much more expensive models. Kudos to Cisco for making this model and allowing us to use alternate firmwares.

2 out of 5 eggsNot for the PS3

Pros: sorry cant think of any atm

Cons: Plenty to say here. I mainly got this for my ps3 since i read that it was excellent for online gaming which it is no problem there except when it drop connection (not often though)

My biggest problem though is when i try to stream media from my pc to my ps3 music no problem video big problem. there i a few buffering pausing during SD video, and impossible to stream HD videos.

Other Thoughts: Wish i could send it back but i already threw away the packaging.

Also this is fine for just internet sharing, but it sucks to share media on a home network

5 out of 5 eggsLove this router

Pros: - You can flash it to dd-wrt
- Rock solid
- Reliable
-Work Horse

Cons: - Not very easy to mount.
- A bit pricey

Other Thoughts: I have about 8 of these all running dd-wrt for different office locations. A couple are are vpn'd together and running IP phones across the vpn. I have not had a problem with this router, or any of its wrt54g/s/t cousins.

5 out of 5 eggs4 years and counting...

Pros: Easy to upgrade to non-stock firmware
Removable antennas that support a standard BNC connection (for that extra signal push)
Rock solid stability

Cons: Linksys "Lego" blocky style enclosure. (please Cisco, come out with a better looking, N clone of this product!)

Other Thoughts: I've purchased several of these routers over the years for various jobs. I've found they work very well for small office environments where they need a little bit more functionality than the standard firmware. I've purchased at least 10 of these since 2006 and all but one are still in service (that one died due to a surge, not a hardware failure!) and going strong. I am ordering 3 more of these for yet another job to do. I do however wish Cisco/Linksys would come out with a updated version of this router.

4 out of 5 eggsCan't beat it for the price

Pros: Like the title says, for the price....
It does what it is supposed to do and, at least in my house (5000sq'), has a good strong signal throughout. I've had bad experiences with Linksys longivity, but so far....of course, it has only been one week. (Last one died upon installation, other 2 inside of a year each - so we will see.) Had the setup been easy, it would be 5 stars.

Cons: OK, I know some people thought the setup was easy - not for me. Took almost 4 hours on the phone to all over the world. The setup disc was useless. After a while, even my modem was not working any more. I finally got an AT&T tech in Jacksonville that got it all done in about 30 min. Maybe I should have given it 5 stars 'cause I can't dismiss the possibiloity that some of the confusion was mine.

Other Thoughts: If Linksys had given some alternate instructions about how to set this up via computer input from the IP site, that would have worked out. Don't forget that once you get the hard-wired computers working, you still have to set this up for the wireless ones. Simple to do if you know how, but no instructions. Maybe they are on the setup disc, don't know, never could get that far.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It works. The old router it replaced was dropping the internet connection for 20 seconds or so many times per day. That hasn't happened since I installed this.
Installation was easy. I didn't use the Setup Wizard.
My computers are wired so I disabled wireless.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I was planning to use Tomato firmware until I learned that it doesn't support VPN. The stock firmware does and is working well enough.

5 out of 5 eggsA classic

Pros: This router is still one of the best on the market today, and it's been around with few changes for many, many years. Rock-solid performance, bulletproof construction, and open-source software make it the best 802.11g router I've ever owned.

Cons: If you need 802.11n, then of course you need an N-capable router. But if your needs are g-only, this is as good as it gets.

Other Thoughts: Use DD-WRT sofware to really open up this router. The Linux base and generous hardware specs allow you to run everything from a RADIUS server to a VPN straight from the router. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 eggsWorkhorse

Pros: Just plug it in and it works. Easy to set up wireless security.

Cons: Only goes through so many walls.

Other Thoughts: Just bought my 5th one of these for a another friend. Everyone I've gotten one of these for has had good luck with them. NewEgg must have bought a boat load of these, $60 is a good deal.

5 out of 5 eggsStable Router Hands Down

Pros: This router albeit 10/100Mbps is still a VERY stable router. How can you argue with it's coverage range of a three story house covering 6,000+ square feet! This router's signal strength beats out even the N routers!

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: Sometimes newer doesn't mean better! Stick with this model and you won't go wrong!
