1 out of 5 eggsGarbage

Pros: Sometimes it works?

Cons: Constantly getting disconnected with this router. It's shared and I'm using a wired connection but others in my household are utilizing the wireless ability and they're also getting kicked from the service at the same time as me. I've tried flashing the firmware, new firmware (dd-wrt), playing around with settings like MTU, etc. Nothing works. I'm ready to smash this thing with a hammer.

Other Thoughts: Obviously it's discontinued now but if you have a chance to pick up one of these, PLEASE avoid it at all costs. I'm going back to my trusty GL, atleast it works. Oh, and they still make and support it.

1 out of 5 eggsWaste of time

Pros: worked for a couple weeks

Cons: everything else. It worked for a while then started intermittently dropping the signal even though i was right next to it. Tried broadcasting on channels 1 and 11 and it killed the broadcast. None of the devices which are normally hooked up to the wireless could even detect the signal... DO NOT BUY....

1 out of 5 eggsno service customer service

Pros: worked great until I tried to reset the password

Cons: tried to hook up a new laptop to it, could not get it to accept the password, so reset the router (and the password) and ::poof:: no internet on any computer in the house.

Other Thoughts: Called customer service for Linksys and went through chat help (after disconnecting the router so I could get internet) and seems it was out of warrenty and therefore they would only be willing to help me for a price. That price was nearly as much as the router cost. Cisco lost a customer and the online help said that getting another router was a good choice if I did not want to pay for tech help.

1 out of 5 eggsWasted time and money

Pros: Looks nice, runs some what cool.

Performs okay, if it's actually working.

Cons: The first one I had would drop the wireless signal and would require a reboot on a daily basis. RMA with Linksys, got another same model, same thing happened yet again. Wireless dropping and DNS issues. Have to unplug it 2-3 times daily. Does not perform well with multiple users.

Other Thoughts: Maybe I got 2 lemons. I would NOT recommend this router to anyone.

1 out of 5 eggsSlow, flaky, and gets DNS wrong.

Pros: It's usually good enough for basic web browsing. Usually.

Cons: The configuration interface is painfully slow.

It quitly drops any TCP connections that have been idle for more than a few minutes. I use SSH to connect into my home network from the outside, and if I don't poke at it every few minutes, it goes out to lunch.

It actually gets the DNS prototocol *wrong*. When you send a request for a non-existant domain, it sends back the NXDOMAIN resposne but it sets the response ID to zero, so the client can't match the response to the request, so the client times out.

Other Thoughts: If you use DHCP for your computers, then this router will send back the DNS servers that it got from its DHCP request instead of offering itself as a DNS server. So if you use DHCP, then you probably won't run into its broken DNS implementation. If you have a computer with a static IP address, though, then you're hosed.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Cisco/Linksys Router

Pros: Easy to setup if you use the native browser-based (http://192.168.1.1) setup routine. Excellent signal strength. Stable, I have had no disconnects or lockups since I installed it.

Cons: Requires some knowledge of setting up a Linksys router using the browser-based routine.

If you are uncomfortable with the browser-based method then install and use the Cisco Wizard on the included CD. You will lose some control of all the available features.

Other Thoughts: This router is great if you are familiar with the Linksys web-based setup. Don't believe the bad reviews.

It has better g-band range than my older WRT54G2 and the n-band coverage is not bad. I have had no disconnects or lockups since I installed it.

I advise against using the Cisco Wizard software on the included CD. Just use the browser-based setup (http://192.168.1.1). You can't screw it up, you can always reset the router to the factory defaults.

You can access the advanced settings from the browser-based setup at:

http://192.168.1.1/Wireless_Advanced.asp

You will see the "hidden" parameters here. The router's default is set for maximum power on the n and g-bands.

The router was designed to install flat on a surface! I have a Netgear dual-band N+ USB wireless adapter with a 6' USB extension cable. Using the free version of the inSSIDer 2 wireless network scanning software on a netbook, I determined that radiated fields are different for the g and n-bands. I got max

5 out of 5 eggsNice Router

Pros: Easy setup (having stock firmware isn't the end of the world)
Excellent range (80-90% through a wall and a solid staircase)

Cons: The only complaint I have is how awful this thing is at handling a large amount of upload connections. I have to limit utorrent's upload speed to 25 kB/s or all web traffic slows to a crawl for everyone on the network.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this router as a refurbished item from Fleabay as one of their dailydeals and it's been going strong for over a year-and-a-half of constant use. I'll be upgrading to a N compliant router in the near future and I hope it will last as long as this one did.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Router

Pros: Very good signal; I am about 40 - 50 feet away from the router, with a wall and a pretty solid staircase between us, and windows reports all five bars. Back when I ran linux and using Wicd as my connection manager I would get anywhere from 75 - 85%. Not bad, especially when you take into account that it has no external antenna.

Security setup was extremely easy, though I really don't do too much; just WPA encryption, Mack filtering and disabling the broadcast of the SSID.

Router looks cool and has never dropped a signal or restart suddenly.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: I bought this router as a refurbished 'daily deal' from fleabay on December 17th, 2009 and have had it on almost nonstop from then to now. I have not experienced drops, restarts or anything else save for a perfectly functioning router in that year-and-a-half.

5 out of 5 eggsFine product

Pros: Needed a router in a pinch for a client of mine, good deal, fast shipping (thanks egg!) and stable product. Average range, to be expected from a G product.

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible warranty

Pros: Easy setup

Cons: Bought router 6 months ago before stopped working. Spent 3 hours on tech support talking to 2 different techs with indian accents more concerned with the color of my ethernet cable than with functionality of the router. Determined that product defective, but manufacturer would not honor warrranty

Other Thoughts: Apparently the 1-year warranty begins the date the retailer purchases the product, not the end user. I bought this off newegg, but because they kept it in stock for almost a year, my warranty was expired.
