You just got your high speed modem (it's cable, DSL, fiber optics, something nifty), and you've got your computers, and you've got your wireless interface cards. Now we need the final element: the router.

With four wired ports and the wireless connection, you're ready to take on the Internet and all it has to offer. Or maybe you just need a local network off the 'Net for your small office. Maybe you'll hook your desktop up by cable, and carry your wireless laptop to your favorite sitting spot. Control and configuration are easy with browsers like Internet Explorer 6.0 or Firefox 1.0 (or newer). (It's best to do your configuration from a hard-wired connection, not the wireless.)

Could this be the router for you? Could be. That's your decision, not ours. But we'll be here, cheerfully waiting for you while you make up your mind.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Works great and I have a computer with a WiFi card, a laptop, and two smart phones connected to it. I have had Insight, Time Warner and Comcast and I only had trouble connecting to Comcast. I had to clone the MAC address from my computer to the router to get multiple Items on the router. Comcast only gives one IP address so you would have to rent there router. Cloning the MAC address gets around this by fooling the system into thinking the router is your computer. This might be the problem the other people have had with this router only connecting to one device at a time.

Cons: A little week on the range.

1 out of 5 eggsStay away from this router

Pros: Cheap buy since this was a gift for my mother who only needed a router to hook up a laptop for basic purposes.

Cons: Unsable and will not connect more than one wireless device. I have tried to connect my mother's laptop and mine, as well as my father's new laptop along with my mother's laptop. One devices connects fine but once the second connects both are disconnected. The only way one of them will connect is if the other WIFI switch is turned off.

Other Thoughts: I owned a WRT54G and upgraded to the WRT400N. Both routers have been good for me. I run 2 wired computers, my Directv box wired, my laptop wireless, my PS3 wireless, and my son's PSP wireless. I have no problems with the 400 and never had a problem with the 54 and I have connected the laptop and PS3 wireless at the same time and never had a problem. I would suggest you find a 54G or get the 400N over this router.

1 out of 5 eggsGood door stop

Pros: Ideally shaped to use as a door stop.

Cons: Total junk. I've been fighting with this router off and on for over a year and it has never worked properly. It will only allow one wireless device to connect to the internet at any given time; try to do more and the router will crash. To fix it you have to disable all but one wireless device and then power cycle the router.

All the combined knowledge of two programmers and three tech support department have never managed to get this router working properly.

Other Thoughts: I bet it makes a good frisbee - I could probably fling it into the river from by back deck.

1 out of 5 eggsAwful

Pros: Sleek look and fast shipping

Cons: never worked. I tried to upgrade my routers with these and they never even connected to the internet. Everything else works, old routers, modem, etc. These routers were absolute garbage out of the shoot. I tried contacting with linksys and after being on the phone for an hour they told me they would call me back, which never happened. I will just eat this and go buy some other brand. This has been a nightmare.

Other Thoughts: Don't even bother, if Linksys cannot figure out their own routers how should you be able too?

1 out of 5 eggsGood when it works

Pros: Looks nice. Great wireless range.

Cons: Worked for a few months and the it died. RMA thru newegg to get replacement and the replacement died in 3 months.

Other Thoughts: I used to be a fan of linksys but this is all i can stand. I had 3 computer and xbox and a network printer and everything was good until it started dropping all connections wired and wireless and 2 seconds intervals.

1 out of 5 eggsThumbs down

Pros: Looks nice, mounts to my wall, and thats about all.

Cons: I have had this for almost a year. I don't know why I have held onto it for so long. I have had nothing but problems since day 1. The router will stop working when some wireless laptops try to connect to it. Random loss of connection happens daily. Most of all you have to pay money before Linksys will help you.

Other Thoughts: I would pass this one up and try something else.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Nice form factor. Good throughput. Easy setup.

Cons: Not reliable. It died a quick and merciful death within hours.

Other Thoughts: Hooked up this thing in minutes. In the beginning it delivered great speed to my laptop and desktop. It slowly failed within three hours then finally no connectivity at all.
Probably a good purchase for some but not here. I exchanged for the less expensive Linksys WRT54G2 that has performed flawlessly for nearly two years.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks for me...

Pros: Worked right out of the box, easy to set up, fast for the standards it supports

Cons: No Gigabit LAN ports, has to be reset occassionally...like all routers.

Other Thoughts: I am a bit surprised at the rating for this router. I know people are generally a bit hyperbolic when rating products (e.g.: 1 star for bad rebate...pathetic), but I think for most users, this router will do just fine for you. The only reason I am looking for a new one (after almost a year of ownership) is the absence of gigabit LAN ports. Unless you need those or have a more complex network, you should be pleased.
