So, you've decided to free yourself from the umbilical cable of your local network and go wireless. You've got your tower or desktop computer. Check. You've got your Linksys Wireless-N router. Check. Now you need your Wireless-N PCI card.

Wireless-N is faster than the 802.11G standard, and tends towards longer range, thanks to the MIMO antenna technology. But if you don't have a Wireless-N router, you don't have to go Wireless-N all at once if you don't want to; this card is also compatible with the 802.11b/g standards. You will get better range and speeds with a compatible Wireless-N router, however.

Faster speeds, longer ranges, fewer dead-spots; what's not to like? So check it out and decide for yourself, but we think you might just like what you see. And we'll be here, cheerfully waiting to sell it to you.

  • newegg Wi-Fi Certified Compliant with draft 802.11n, the Linksys WMP110 delivers real-world performance of up to 14X the speed and 6X the coverage of an 802.11g wireless connection while remaining compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b devices.
  • newegg MIMO Technology Two built-in external antennas feature MIMO technology which uses multiple radios to create a robust signal and reduces dead spots for high speed performance and great coverage.
  • newegg Wireless Security With support for up to 256-bit encryption, the Linksys WMP110 offers reliable network protection and safeguards your data and privacy by providing access to a secure wireless network.

4 out of 5 eggsStable, once you get it to work.

Pros: Works great on XP 32bit, do not know about 64bit
Stable once you get it to work on Win 7 64bit

Cons: I had to work to get it to work with Windows 7 64bit

Other Thoughts: Forgive me, I know this isn't a forum, but wanted to say Miketosh's instructions in his other thoughts worked for me after I tried many other things. Thanks! I'm running windows 7 64bit on a i5 machine.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy

Pros: Looks like it would work well.

Cons: Does not work. As others have explained it does not work with any 64 bit versions of Windows, and does not work with Windows 7 at all apparently. I've been checking the linksys driver site frequently since January and they don't seem to plan on releasing any new drivers.

Other Thoughts: Bought it at $60 from newegg, thinking it would be compatible out of the box or soon enough since it came from reputable linksys. Now I guess I'll go with a $30 Rosewill adapter and shy away from Linksys.

5 out of 5 eggsTo Disregard the Lies...

Pros: First off, it works on Windows 7 64Bit... No problems at all. Run the driver disk prior to installing the card and it works like a dream. Very strong, stable, and lag-free connections. The twin antennas definitely get great signal.

Cons: Absolutely none if you know what your doing.

Other Thoughts: Great Wireless N Card!

2 out of 5 eggsLinksys WMP110 Adapter

Pros: When it's good, it's very, very good - but when it's bad , it's horrible :)

Cons: As has been widely noted, this card is extremely tempramental and Linksys-supplied drivers don't work well. My environment is Win 2k SP2 (had to downgrade from SP3 after Linksys rep acknowledged card won't work with that SP version - and Linksys has no plans to fix that :)...512MB, 900Ghz processor - which I mention because this card did work in a PC w/2GB RAM, 2Ghz processor using Linksys drivers but under Win Wireless Zero Configuration (Linksys reps also told me NOT to use Linksys Monitor - go figure)..other forums revealed options to try & Linksys forum (search on WMP110 freezes my PC) contained a suggestion (albeit for Vista 64-bit) that ultimately worked for Win XP sp2...go to device mgr, find Device Instance ID, ven_XXX will be a number or ltr/num combo that you can google to find who that is - go to their site, download appropriate driver (mine was Atheros Comm)- remove all traces of Linksys drivers, and monitor pgm so you can install vendor driver you downloaded & installed

Other Thoughts: 'generic' adapter driver from vendor has been running flawlessly for > an hour - will report back if it fails to stay up

1 out of 5 eggsWMP110

Pros: I have nothing good to say about this card.

Cons: I have been trying for over a year to get this card to work with no luck. I am running window vista 64 bit and each time I install the card and softwere my computer lock up. The award winning tech support from linksys is junk.

Other Thoughts: I will not buy another thing from linksys

1 out of 5 eggsDOES NOT WORK ON 64-BIT!!!!!!!!

Pros: You can MAKE it work if you have to and can figure out how.

Cons: The drivers for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 will not work on any of the 64-bit versions of those operating systems.

Other Thoughts: To install this device, do NOT install the linksys drivers, but instead pick from drivers already on your computer.

1) Click on Start Menu, Right Click Computer, select Manage. Select Device Manager from the left pane.
2) Expand Network Adapters, and Right click on Linksys WMP110 Wireless Adapter. Select Uninstall. Be sure to mark the checkbox to delete any associated drivers too. Click OK
3) Under the Action menu at the top, select Scan for Hardware Changes
4) Under Other Devices, Right click Network Controller, select Update Driver Software
5) Click Browse My Computer fro driver software
6) Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
7) Select Network adapters and click Next
8) From the left side, select Atheros Communications Inc.
9) From the right side, select Atheros AR5008 Wireless Network Adapter and click Next
10) Click Yes
11) Click Close.

1 out of 5 eggsNot compatible with Win 7!

Pros: It's linksys, so theres a lot of common knowledge to draw on from the internet.

Cons: As an extended-range adapter, it's performance has been poor. I upgraded from Linksys' basic PCI g adapter and my reception went from 2/5 to 3/5. Didn't justify the $80 expense.

What is much worse, however, is the fact that this adapter is not compatible with windows 7. This I heard straight from a Linksys rep.

Other Thoughts: They are not compensating customers with any kind of exchange program, and they do not intend on releasing any new drivers. Absoutely no consideration for legacy customers - I've been buying their product for years. Meanwhile, companies like HP, Viewsonic and Plantronics will go out of their way to address customer concerns. Avoid this product and, preferably, avoid Linksys altogether.
