With dual-band wireless capabilities, the Linksys WET610N is ideal for wireless HD video streaming and gaming applications because entertainment content can be sent over the less crowded 5GHz spectrum, separating it from other network traffic that transmits in the 2.4GHz spectrum. Also, VoIP and video applications won't suffer from other network data demands thanks to the integrated QoS (quality of service) features that give signal priority to voice and video quality.

There's no driver to load and the web-based configuration utility makes it easy to get up and running. Physical installation is also simplified by Power Over Ethernet, enabling the WET610N to use a single Ethernet connection for both power and data, so there's no need to use the included power adapter if there are no nearby outlets.

  • newegg Dual-band Wireless-N Technology With Dual-band Wireless-N technology, the Linksys WET610N provides faster wireless connectivity that's twice the speed of Wireless-G and offers the flexibility to connect on either the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz frequency to avoid interference in your area.
  • newegg MIMO Technology MIMO (Multiple In, Multiple Out) technology multiplies the effective data rate and uses signal reflections to increase the range and reduce "dead spots" in the wireless coverage area.
  • newegg Wireless QoS Capabilities The integrated Quality of Service (QoS) features prioritize wireless voice and video traffic for crisp voice and video communications.
  • newegg High Wireless Security To protect your data and privacy, the Linksys WET610N supports WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) and the industrial-strength wireless security of WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) to encode all your wireless transmissions with powerful encryption. With the MAC Address filter, decide exactly who access to your wireless network, while advanced logging keeps you appraised.

1 out of 5 eggsdoes NOT work

Pros: i got this to add to my home network - install worked one time (1st try) then it lost connection after 5 minutes and now will not reconnect - have tried everything and had friends look at it also, waste of $90

Cons: i will think about NEVER buying Linksys again (always loved them)

5 out of 5 eggs great bridge

Pros: Setup was easy. I use this to connect my gaming consoles to my home network, and its worked without a hitch for over a year. Connected to my linksys e4200 right away as well.

Cons: Wasn't free.

2 out of 5 eggsFrustrating

Pros: It's a cheap wireless bridge. It doesn't bite, make a mess on the floor, or use bad grammar.

Cons: Where to start? The WET610N has been a monumental exercise in frustration.

The Linksys CD software fails again, and again, and again to find the WET610N. I used three different switches and two computers, with the WET610N and my computers hard-wired to the switches. Seems like 1 out of 10 tries the software would even find the device, but then fail on continued setup.

The Cisco forums are full of people having problems with these things. Dropped connections, problems like mine, etc.

I finally ignored the Linksys CD and went to my router to find which IP address the WET610N had gotten. Then I signed on directly to it (like most other Linksys equipment, the default username is blank and the default password is admin) and configured it there.

Well, even that didn't work. It simply refused to connect to several different wireless networks, whether they were wide open (no security), WPA2-AES, you name it. The same wireless networks were fine with smartphones, other computers, etc. So after struggling with that, I decided to check for updated firmware.

Received the unit with 1.0.3. Downloaded and installed 1.0.5 from Linksys support. After that finally finished installing (and rebooting... slow) - THEN the WET610N finally got and held a connection to my wireless network.

Overall, since I really needed the functionality I invested the time, but... that's 4+ hours of my life, gone for what should have been a 10-minute config job.

Other Thoughts: Get the updated firmware.

Ignore the CD, figure out the IP the WET610N gets when you wire it to your router, and do it through the web interface.

4 out of 5 eggseasy enough

Pros: very easy to set up, if you have access to the wifi router directly (with a network cable). way cheaper than a wifi adapter from sony

Cons: limited features, would like to have set up without having to ever plug into the router directly, rather have just plugged into my laptop that was already on the wifi. this might have worked, but i was so tired of trying that with the last device i didn't bother, but the directions didn't explain this being an option. couldn't get the wifi connect button to work. can't figure out how to get some of the features to work (streaming video)

Other Thoughts: using this to connect my sony blue ray sound system to my wifi as a wifi-to-ethernet adapter. this device does exactly that and does it with zero issues. very good price.

i am not yet able to get it to act as a client for my media server but might find a way after some more research. but, if it says it does something on the box, it should explain a bit of how it works.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works just like it should. Have it hooked into a switch feeding internet to our dish hopper and blu ray player. Might not be as fast as copper, but much easier than running wires.

Cons: Wasn't free. Documentation could tell you default IP address so it would be easier to setup, instead of dumb linksys software.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk; Mis-Categorized

Pros: Its black and looks pretty.

Cons: This is a wireless receiver, not a bridge. It lets you add wireless networking capabilities to a device that only has wired network. In other words, it's about as useless as utters on a bull.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Anonymous,

We posted your concern on our community and saw some members reply on the thread.
Here's the URL:

They also included some links to references to better explain how the bridge works.

Hope this helps.

5 out of 5 eggsLove this Linksys 5GHz Adapter

Pros: I paired the Linksys WET610N with a Netgear N600 Dual Band Router at 5GHz and it works perfectly. It connected without any issues and has been running stable for over a month.

Cons: I should have bought the Linksys WET610N in the first place. I orinally bought a refurbished Netgear range extender/bridge that would not stay powered on, so I had to return it.

Other Thoughts: It only has one port but you can use it with a switch to add more.

5 out of 5 eggsTwo for two

Pros: These things work great.

Cons: If you know what you're doing...

Other Thoughts: Anyone having trouble with these devices, try this:

1. Update the firmware.

2. On the web interface, go to WMM and change the following:
a. Change access mode to "best effort"
b. Change use aggregation to "yes"

Normally, these things appear to try and conserve power and bandwidth. The above settings will bump the transmission speed up to 300mbps when under any kind of load. Mine normally state 13.5mbps until I start streaming video or moving files, and then they instantly bump up to 300mbps.

Great hardware, but you have to know how to use the software.
