Setting up a wireless router in your home or office shouldn't be difficult and with the LINKSYS WRT120N, it isn't.
This router works with both Windows XP and Vista as well as Mac OS X. It also features a 4-port switch for devices that are directly wired. You'll enjoy your wireless network knowing that no one else is enjoying it without authorization thanks to Wi-Fi Protected Setup technology. Your data and transmissions are encrypted for your protection the built-in SPI firewall keeps the most common threats from invading your network.
Cons: Is basically a "G" Router with a "N" label stuck on it.
Other Thoughts: Maximum PC's review: Linksys advertises this router with the tagline “Step up to the speed of Wireless-N!” Read the data sheet, however, and you’ll find this: “Complies with 802.11g, and 802.11b standards, and [is] compatible with -some- 802.11n features” (emphasis ours). The 802.11n standard has achieved sufficient brand recognition that many consumers won’t look past the N in the product’s name, and they’ll fail to notice that the Wi-Fi Alliance certification logo on the WRT120N’s box extends only to 802.11b/g.

Pros: Sleek looking, easy setup - you do not have to use that CD to set up the router. just connect as usual using your laptop and follow the instruction without having to insert the CD.
Cons: Very disappointing. First of all when i saw the "N" label, I thought it would work faster with my laptop which has a b/g/n card in it. However, it doesn't display "N" in the broadcast. Also if you manually set it to N only, the computer won't even connect. So I wonder what kind of "N" signal it is sending out. Sort of like a b/g router labeled as an N router to boost sales.
Second thing. It drops internet connection every 20 to 30 mins. Laptop is connected to the router, but you won't be able to access the internet and you can see that your download speeds drop to zero. It resets itself after 3 or 4 mins, or you can perform a hard reset on the router. If this happened once in a while, I could've lived with it. But it seems to happen every time I go online.
Other Thoughts: Very disappointed. Gonna return it back to Walmart before the grace period is over.

Pros: It works but look at my Cons.
Cons: It says N but doesn't work! I had it on mixed mode and all my devices are connecting G not N. I forced it in N mode but it never connects! I have updated drivers and router. After reviewing comments it's not a N wireless router! taking it back

Amazingly... So far.. So good

Pros: CHEAP. After reading numerous scathing reviews, the original owner actually GAVE this device to me. Firmware upgrade a snap. Setting up WEP security through the Linksys utility was easy.
Cons: The router does run hot to the touch. I have the router raised up a bit as the extra height is provided by four added rubber feet so that more air can pass easily underneath the unit for ventilation. Perhaps heat is the cause of all the earlier negative reviews?
Other Thoughts: The prior owner of my WRT120N reported NOTHING but trouble with this router. I reset the device to factory defaults/original firmware Version 1.0.01 using the reset button. I had no problem downloading the bin file for the newest firmware from October of last year... 2009. Firmware Version 1.0.04. Upgrading using the Linksys firmware upgrade utility went easily. There are reports that this latest firmware doesn't support typical "N" router speeds. "G" speeds at best. I've never measured the wireless speed after the firmware upgrade. I running for a week now with the new firmware. All four wired devices are connecting. My iPhone 4G would not connect using the default wireless Auto Channel 6 setting. So I changed the broadcast channel to Channel 1 and the iPhone connects. I was really prepared to slam this device with a one star review. However, so far I have nothing to complain about. Still, after all the bad reviews I'll not likely be buying another one of these.
