3 out of 5 eggsTerrible for Gaming

Pros: Decent, basic router that has gigabit ethernet.

Cons: Our family has a lot of wireless devices connecting to it- which may or may not cause problems when so many things are actively connected to the router at the same time or actively using it.

My brother and I have problems playing League of Legends (video game) at the same time. The router will majorly lag and disconnect/drop packets if we do, but be fine with low latency the rest of the time with basic web browsing.

The fact that it has 5Ghz band is kind of a joke, because it can only do one frequency or the other- and not both 2.4 and 5 Ghz at the same time. Most devices don't even support 5Ghz anyway.

I suspect the QoS feature is bare bones; I don't notice any difference when I individually set all network-connected devices in QoS.

Does not support IPv6

Other Thoughts: It "seems" like a decent router (at the time we got it). Nowadays, it's useless. Here's a tip- internet connectivity is so important nowadays, why not invest in a powerhouse router that will last?

At least Newegg discontinued this product so no one else will suffer.

2 out of 5 eggsCustomer service is awful

Pros: Products works..

Cons: Technical support is paltry: 1-year warranty expired on the same year, and they wouldn't help me increase my lan transfer speeds.

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't buy another linksys product. TP-Link appears to be a better choice. They also have 2-year+ warranty on all network products.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi.

Thanks for your honest feedback. We know how you feel and we apologize if you feel we didn't care about your issue. Please provide us you case number so we can do something here in our end.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy

Pros: None

Cons: My product is a little over a year old and every time it rains I now lose Internet service. I then have to pay for Linksys tech support and it takes ant were from 1-3 hours to set it back up. Needless to say I will never buy anything from Linksys again.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works as advertised.

Cons: Occasionally runs hot.

Other Thoughts: In hindsight, kinda wished I had gotten one with simultaneous dual band as opposed to selectable.

1 out of 5 eggsPiece of junk

Pros: It worked for 2 years

Cons: I just stopped working completely, no lights or anything. Power supply is not the issue. I expect a bit more than 2 years from a router. My $26 Rosewill is 3 years old and going strong.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well with DD-WRT

Pros: Not too bulky, less ugly than a lot of other routers, supported by DD-WRT, 5GHz Wireless-N support.

Cons: Runs a little warm (see also the "Other thoughts" section), dual-band means you can run broadcast at either 2.4 or 5GHz, not both simultaneously.

Other Thoughts: As other reviews have noted, I think this works best with DD-WRT installed rather than the default firmware. It flashes in a pinch and is fully supported, so you get a great feature set with very little hassle.

The stock firmware also runs the processor at a slightly overclocked frequency, from what I've read. Using DD-WRT to downclock it back to the stock frequency level hasn't affected the performance at all and allows it to run quite a bit cooler.

Overall, very satisfied over the last 6 months. Haven't had any network issues yet. I don't think I've even needed to reboot it in the time I've had it except to flash DD-WRT, whereas my old router needed a reboot about once a month to fix connectivity issues.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Reliable

Pros: Quick and easy to setup
Lots of advanced features

Cons: NOT Reliable
2 of the 3 I bought died within a month of each other and less than 2 years after purchase

Other Thoughts: Bought 3 of these December 2010-Had other Linksys products that I bought more than 5 and one more than 7 years ago. To have 2 of these die after less than 2 years does not say much for the quality of these new models.

1 out of 5 eggsUseless

Pros: Good looking

Cons: First it dropped wireless connection intermittently, changes some setting to broadcast wireless G only instead of the "mixed" setting. Seemed ok for a couple of weeks until I started getting a DNS connection issue only while using the router (connecting directly to the modem solved the issue.)
Poor warranty, I'm just going to toss it to save the trouble of arguing with customer support.

Other Thoughts: Trouble from day one, surprising as my WRT54G at my parents house is 5 years old and never had any issues.

3 out of 5 eggsJust OK

Pros: Low price for a gigabit switch and 802.11n. Was able to flash with DD-WRT. My primary need was for gigabit switch with wireless being secondary so this is OK for my needs. Would no be happy if I had to use the wireless as my primary network connection.

Cons: Wireless performance is hit or miss. Range is not very good even using the 2.4Ghz band.

Other Thoughts: I still love the WRT54Gx series of routers (I own 3 myself) and usually recommend them for family/friends. These newer ones are not nearly as stable and the FW is horrible all around (WPS vulnerability anyone????). Unless you really need the faster wireless connection for things like video streaming, stick with old 802.11g routers. They are cheaper and just work (I have several that are more than 5 years old and still running strong).
