2 out of 5 eggsBad product

Pros: wired network

Cons: wireless network: I bought the router for N mode wireless networking. When I set this router in Wireless-N only mode I can't connect with N capable devices such as iPhone 4s. Putting the router back into Mixed mode allows connection. Even when router was set to N mode, under Status/Wireless Network it would show channel width of 20MHz meaning that faster 40MHz wasn't even getting switched on. This is a bad product that doesn't have the advertised capability.

Other Thoughts: Luckilly I got it very cheap but I still feel I overpaid. I could stick to a B/G router and have the same performance.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Technologist!

It looks like the router isn't working as its supposed to. We got your review posted on our community and saw a member reply and suggest some steps to rectify this concern. Please check out the link below:

Hopefully after making the changes, the router would turn out fine.

Thanks,

4 out of 5 eggsNice and Simple

Pros: The setup is simple, has built-in guest network access (can be disabled) and enough advanced options to keep some of the more advanced users happy. Additionally, "Cloud Connect" is not required for this version of the router, which is a huge plus.

Cons: The parental controls seem to have a negative impact upon the router's performance. After much experimenting I've found that when parental controls are enabled for URI filtering, the router seems to go unresponsive after 24-48 hours. A simple restart resolves it and I don't really need them enabled anyway.

Other Thoughts: Cisco recently (Jan 23 2013) sold Linksys to Belkin so there's some concern over if this product will continue to be supported under Belkin.

3 out of 5 eggsNetworking for Dummies

Pros: Now this router is what I'm talking about!

Cons: Price could be better.

Other Thoughts: 1. Open Box
2. Insert CD into computer
3. Follow very simple instructions
No muss, no fuss, no guesswork, no frustration, no problems.
It just works.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far, so good.

Pros: Works just fine. Plays nice with my netgear switch and wireless devices.

Cons: The "Idiot Proof" instruction CD is hilariously bad.

Step1) Connect blue CAT5 cable into yellow internet port on back of router.

Step 2) Connect other end of blue CAT5 cable into modem.

Step 3) Scan to detect router ...wait really?

Yes, the instructions actually expect you to somehow detect the router with your own PC 100% disconnected from the router. Its missing the step where you connect a 2nd CAT5 cable from your PC to the router ... BEFORE you scan the network.

Other Thoughts: This was meant to replace my old Linksys wrt45 wireless G router, which suffered many disconnect problems that had nothing to do with my tablet, phone or laptop and nothing to do with the channel in which it operated on.

3 out of 5 eggsWell At Least Some Things Work Some What.

Pros: Router Installed Quickly. Works at Max Speed So far 80% of the Time so far. This is a Replacement for another E1200 VERSION 2 that Wouldn't work and stay at 300 MBPS Even with the Wireless device right next to the Router.

Cons: I said in the PROS that the router works 80% of the time. It still has Problems.

Linksys should look at the Memory Chips that they use. It seems that they Can't hold there Memory or the Power to hold the Memory Faulty. I have listed all of what the First one did to me in my other Review of the other router. The New one works but Still has BUGS.

Other Thoughts: Cisco/Linksys needs to build a Firmware with the Listings that I put in the Very First Review I wrote about the E1200. Then get better Memory Chips that Save the Information. With some of these changes they may come up with a more Stable Product.

I Started with a Linksys BEFW11S4 then went to the Following. Linksys WRT54G VER 2, Netgear WGT624 V3, Linksys refurb WRT120N, Now the E1200. All of the routers listed above still work at 100%. The E1200 works at 80% so far.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsGood in theory but misses the mark

Pros: The speed and bandwidth is there but ...

Cons: ... I had serious problems loading pages reliably. I upgraded from a 6-year old A/B/G Linksys router and, although slower, it ended up loading pages with fewer errors. That's very sad. With the new router I would get many missing images and several websites would only work 1 out of every 10 tries. Many attempts across random domains will timeout. Facebook in particular was a nightmare.

Other Thoughts: I found some guides for this specific router that helped. Basically, turn off IPV6, disable all QoS options, and set to "G-only". This helped but did not fix problems with several domains not loading and timing out.

This router can support dd-wrt and that is what I ended up doing to get a working router. Pages load much "snappier" and I don't get timeouts or bad connections. Linksys should be ashamed at how poorly their firmware runs the router.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Matt,

We are sorry to hear that you are having problems accessing sites with the router. We posted your concern on the community forums. Here is the link http://homecommunity.cisco.com/t5/Facebook-Support/Newegg-com-E1200-Good-in-theory-but-misses-the-mark/td-p/598908

2 out of 5 eggsRouters Wireless Is at Half Speed.

Pros: Router Installed Was Easy. But then it went Wrong from there.

Cons: This Routers Wireless Would not keep High Speed Connections. It was Always Half Speed.

Other Thoughts: I put in a "" RMA "" to get a New One. But do to the Weather it will be 1 to 2 Days Before I can get in the Mail. I also had to hook back up a Refurbished Linksys WRT120N Wireless Router to at least get 150 MBPS. Hopefully the Replacement Will actually be 300MBPS all the Time. Not Half Speed. The person that I talked to from Linksys Support by the Name of "" AN AN "" No Kidding. Told me that there was a Problem with the Speed of my System. Then didn't even ask me what Operating System. Just started to tell me to goto this area and start to readjust my computer to get it to work. Strange. The wrt120n Router went right in with NO problem. Even with Windows 7 that I use.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi,

We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing slow connection on the router. Can you provide us your case number when you last called our support line? We would like to help out.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent router.

Pros: Doesn't take much space. Better configuration options than the WRT54G it replaced. seems to keep cool enough.

Cons: None that I've seen.

Other Thoughts: It doesn't have any antennae, so you can't really adjust the exact area coverage like you can with a router that has them. Still, the range is enough to cover my whole house. If you're looking for a router that you can really configure the range of, you're probably better off spending a little bit more for a higher-end one with adjustable antennae. If you just want a nice access point for your house, this router is great.
