2 out of 5 eggsDied after 1.5 years

Coming Soon!

Pros: Worked well for 1.5 years. Easy setup.

Cons: After 1.5 years, started to randomly drop internet connection for hours at a time. Thought it was my ISP until I realized it would work for a short time after unplugging and letting it cool down. After a month of this behavior, it finally died completely, (no lights). This modem/router ran so hot the plastic (3/4 inch circle or so) on the bottom discolored and slightly deformed.

Other Thoughts: Told Linksys about this, (including the deformed/melted plastic) and they stuck to their 1 year warranty and refused to do anything. I know they didn't have to replace it, but you'd think they'd be concerned about melting routers. If you want to spend $80+ on a router that works for <2 years, have at it.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Well for Me

Pros: Wireless signal is as strong as I need it to be, internet is reliable, and the set up was very easy.

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: I bought this DSL modem - wireless router combination to replace a TP-LINK DSL modem and Linksys router that kept flaking out on the internet connection. I have AT&T DSL, but not U-Verse. The guy at the store told me U-Verse only works on AT&T supplied modems (actually, he said the modems they sold in the store would not work with U-Verse). I also found that I had to use the thin two-wire phone line that came in the box between the wall and the modem directly. Using a DSL filter or an older gray 4 wire line prevented me from getting reliable internet.

1 out of 5 eggsLinksys/Cisco X2000

Pros: Not much... Worked well for 180 days. Then not...

Cons: Drops wireless connections repeatedly. Only three Cat5 ports. Weak broadcast area for G/N connections. No external antenna. Tech support available for $29.99 for a device that will more than likely, fail.

Other Thoughts: Saddest offering of a CICSO product. It his is any indication. They will be having major problems across all sectors.

1 out of 5 eggsnewegg not really the product

Pros: lights come on, will make a great paperweight

Cons: not compatible with qwest/centurylink vDSL. I guess that's what I get for not researching it better, and not hooking it up right after christmas.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you know which dsl you have before ordering, especially as a christmas present, because newegg will hold to their magic 30 day cutoff return policy NO MATTER WHAT.

5 out of 5 eggsVerizon DSL

Pros: Easy setup, practically "Plug and Play" right out of the box, decent wireless speed.

Cons: Wireless range could be better. I have this unit located on the 1st floor of a 2 story, 2,500 sf house and I get low signals on the 2nd floor. However, I have not dropped a connection yet. There is no provision for mounting an external antenna, so if you have a large area to cover, you may need a range extender. The unit also does run a little warm on the bottom with constant use. I have it on a shelf, by itself, and it does not seem to be a problem. I would avoid placing this unit on top of, or near, anything that generates heat and try to maintain air circulation around it.

Other Thoughts: I bought this modem/router to replace an aging Westell 7500 that was provided by Verizon back in 2008. I was constantly having to reboot my Westell 2 or 3 times/day because it was dropping the DSL/Internet connection. This unit arrived with everything "good to go" and in the box. I inserted the Setup CD as instructed and connected my laptop to the modem/router using the supplied Cat 5 cable. I connected the modem to the DSL line and plugged it in. After running the setup CD I did need to select the "Auto" box, along with the "ADSL" box under the "Setup">"Basic Setup" tab/screen. I used the same SSID and password combination from my Westell 7500 so as to make it easy to have all of the wireless devices connect with no problems. After saving the settings and rebooting the modem/router, I was connected to the Internet. Speeds with the Cat 5 were about 30% faster than I was getting before. Wireless speeds were about 10%-20% faster. Total setup from opening and unpacking the box to completed setup was around 10 minutes. Newegg free shipping was exceptional, as always. Total time from ordering to my door was 48 hours.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Gateway except for AT&T

Pros: Easy Setup, Good Speed

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I thought I would update my review of this Gateway. I started having connection problems with it after a while, but like some customers seem to think, I believe it is AT&T. I returned the Gateway to Linksys and we switched to a Cable Internet service. Much more reliable.

1 out of 5 eggsNot compatible with cable

Pros: features if they work

Cons: This is a DSL only gateway. Not compatible with cable ISPs. Doing all the research there is appears collusion in the market place between manufacturers and cable ISPs - they make cable gateways BUT do not sell them to the public - only to ISPs so they resell/lease to you.
Getting Motorola instead

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: Setup was very smooth and had no problems installing.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I purchased this Gateway to replace my AT&T Pace 4111N Gateway that I was not happy with. This was one of the easiest gateways to setup that I have used.
