4 out of 5 eggsWorks like it should

Pros: It hasn't given me any issues, it just works and its easy to configure port forwarding and other options.

Cons: Can't/Don't get 300Mbps connections even though its a N300 router, max I get is 144Mbps. No way to force N300 mode either.

Other Thoughts: The first thing I did when I got it was update the firmware and disabled Wifi Protected Setup. After the reaver hack was discovered, WPS is liability. I occasionally reboot the router, I don't think it needs it but it doesn't do any harm either. I knocked it down an egg for the con, if it says it on the box..I should be able to get that speed.

1 out of 5 eggsCheap

Pros: It was running great for a month

Cons: Only a month later it takes forever lo load pages if you can load them at all. I'm sitting 7 feet way from it. When I connect directly o the modem everything is fine. Upgrading the firmware or resetting to factory defaults had no effect.

Other Thoughts: I'm surprised Cisco put their name on products like this

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsNot a good deal

Pros: Has lots of options and a good range for a smaller space.

Cons: I have to reset it daily. I have tried firmware upgrading and changing various setting but this router just stops working almost daily even with no traffic going through it. It is in a well ventilated place and is never hot when I touch it so overheating isn't the issue. I'm wishing I would have went with something else....I use it for both wired and wireless connection. Our Xbox is connected to it via cat5 as well as two pcs...only a few devices use the wireless. When my kids want to boot their computers or Xbox to get online to play games we have to reset the router. When it is working it works good though and oddly enough never seems to stop working ones it's being used.

Other Thoughts: I think next time I'm going with something more expensive and designed better. I don't think I like the internal antenna design.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsPoor performance

Pros: VPN support, DD-WRT compatible

Cons: Slow speeds

Other Thoughts: I bought this router to replace a D-Link comcast wireless router that for whatever reason just would not connect to my work VPN after I reset it. This router connects fine, but within a day my housemates were complaining of slow speeds and that pages took forever to load. On my end even torrents took a really long time to start.

I kept it around a while longer because I need VPN support at work, but they finally got fed up and asked me to check out the settings. I googled and this seems to be a very common problem (with comcast at least) but nothing I did fixed it.

I even installed DD-WRT hoping that would be easier to manage but it's still really slow.

You get what you pay for it.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsE900 Wireless-N300 Router

Pros: After setup the unit works well; however, this is the second unit I installed and the CD installation did not install as expected. This led to manual configuration, and both units are working great with no problems. One of the end users indicated that his through put increased greatly (9 times), but he upgraded from a 54g. Also, he no longer experiences lags while playing WOW and listening to Pandora at the same time.

Cons: CD setup needs some work.

4 out of 5 eggsMeh

Pros: It works most of the time. Range spans down my dorms 6 floors and way down the hall to a friends room. Supports WPA encryption.

Cons: I've had to reboot this router a few times. Every now and then it gets funky. Same with other Linksys's I've owned. In this case it's more of an annoyance because my router is close by. However I play a tremendous amount of Battlefield 3 and World of Warcraft and on an older Linksys it kicked me off my wifi during a dungeon. The second that happens this will be part of the Occupy my Garbage Can movement. Otherwise it's been good. It's not a problem with my schools internet either. Windows 7 tells me my local IP wasn't configured correctly and it sort of see's my router. This happens out of the blue which worries me. I've had this router for almost a month so we'll see. Cisco and Linksys make good products I just need more things I buy to be reliable and break less.

Other Thoughts: Someone commented that the CD was required. It is not. It tries to force you to use it so yes it did seem like that. There was some other option on that setup page in small print I clicked ; it's been a while. Basically for 10 seconds you router is unsecured. It tries to walk you through it which is annoying to people who know what they're doing with anything. It gave me some warning page that my router wasn't secured. Oh well. Just don't have it in the modem.... I agree that was highly annoying. I was on Linux at the time so I kinda was forced to figure it out.

Also with a lot of these Linksys routers it seems the default login is:
Username: <Blank>
password: <admin?

The username is blank but there's a password. Hope it helps anyone who might be looking for these answers!

5 out of 5 eggsI Don't Understand....

Pros: Great! Very EASY to set up! Works like a charm!

Cons: None at ALL!

Other Thoughts: Please people do NOT listen to Ben! He doesn't know what he is talking about! Do NOT turn off your firewall!! Ben said the CD was useless. It's the same manual that is online! He says he is almost in the 8th decade. What is he 80 years old? Come on this product couldn't be easier to set up!

1 out of 5 eggsSerious Speed Issues

Pros: Fancy lookin' case.

Cons: Would warn away from this router. It can certainly handle menial tasks like surfing the web but for this price point it's performance is atrocious. Couldn't get the thing to break 300 kb/s along with intermittent drops down to 100 or less.

DEFINITELY not for gaming or any sort of high-speed download.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Dave, We have posted your concern in our Community Forum and one of the experts there has a suggestion that may help get this issue resolved.
