1 out of 5 eggsTotal junk

Pros: - USB port

Cons: - WiFi stops working 7 days, needing a reset to default.
- Ethernet ports stop working after 7 days, needing a reset to default

Other Thoughts: What junk.
I had read this router runs hot so set up a 120mm USB powered fan to draw room air through the unit. Heat or not, this device would stop communicating first through WiFi then through the e]physical ports. The only way to get back into the device was a reset to default. The parental controls never worked well for the first year it was free and afterward was just easier to disable.
This unit was replaced by a Netgear from Goodwill that works so much better. I can see why Cisco sold off Linksys, if this is the best they can do for consumer WiFi.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk!

Pros: OK range. Guess access.

Cons: Contently have to power cycle this product to keep it working. No worth the hassle.

Other Thoughts: After having them powered up continually for 5 to 7 days you are not able to connect to the guest network. You will get an error 500. Tech support believes that the fix for this is a power cycle. Which will last another 5 to 7 days. This is not a permanent fix and when the units are mounted 50 feet in the air it makes it had to waste time to power cycle them every week. These units are not worth the time or the money. Don’t buy these and save the headache. The India tech support is poor! This is a known issue with no fix. As other posters stated DO NOT BUY THIS JUNK!

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well. Pain to set up.

Pros: Good wireless coverage. Good speed over WiFi, Gigabit connectivity. Reasonable cost. Decently attractive device design.

Cons: Cloud Connect garbage. Lack of rack mounting options.

Other Thoughts: My brother in law gave me one of these as he tends to flop at our place when he's in town to replace an older Linksys E1000 router. This one is MUCH faster than the older unit. The cloud connect is a joke, but easy enough to bypass. Just log into the traditional admin console and configure it like an older router and leave the Connect Cloud garbage out. My remaining complaint is universal with pretty much all Wireless routers. Finding a decent wireless router that will rack mount is almost impossible. It makes me miss my SMC7008 ABR wired router, almost, but not quite want to go back to that and just throw a wireless access point in there. I use structured wiring with gigabit through my home, and WiFi to connect phones, tablets, and the Wii... It's a pain to have to foam tape the router to a rack shelf to keep it where it belongs...

3 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: I wrote a review earlier and rate it one egg. I had an RMA to send it back but the network guy at work said to try this first. I powered down every device on my network, then powered on the router and went out from there. The router has been up for 3 days so far without any problems. Hopefully that continues.

Cons: When I was on the phone with support or online with support, why are they not providing this advice.

Other Thoughts: Hopefully the router continues to work. I haven't had any problems as others have mentioned with the cloud. I haven't set anything up with the cloud or anything like that.

Also, Tech support from Cisco tried to contact me by my previous review, but the guy at work solved the problem so I haven't contacted them back.

1 out of 5 eggsWOW I SHOULD HAVE READ REVIEWS

Pros: Newegg customer service. Otherwise NONE these DO NOT WORK!

Cons: Cisco has set this up so that in order for you to get router to work you have to contact customer service so they can enable the router through your internet service. The reason for this is to have a chance to sell you extended service plans and "computer clean services" However even once I got through all that they couldnt get the router to work! Not once, but twice. This is my second unit due to first being partially DOA. Conclusion from Cisco after a two hour phone call was that I need to get internet working to set it up. However internet works just fine with old router and straight to computers.. On both of the Cisco routers I went through, we (cisco customer service and I) couldnt get into settings menu on either of them or even see them. Lesson learned, "READ FEEDBACK READ FEEDBACK READ FEEDBACK"

Other Thoughts: Sad that all my previous linksys routers were champs. Beware of newer cisco ones! I'm switching to another brand and will not go back!

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsGoing Back

Pros: None, it doesn't work

Cons: I installed the router on 3 days ago and it has been nothing but problems. Setup was easy and it worked for 12 hours. Then I had to reboot it. The router worked again for about 12 hours and then needed to be reboot again. On the third day, it needed to be rebooted every hour or less. I tried using Cisco Chat support tech support but the internet went down during the chat so that didn't help. I called Tech support using my mobile minutes and was on the phone for 30 minutes with a tech rep that really was a phone operator as far their tech knowledge went. The rep wanted to put me on hold again, but I asked to be called back rather than keep using my minutes on hold. The internet started working again so I started a chat session again with a different rep, and they were not helpful either.

I have my old router operating again and everything works. So much for upgrading with Cisco equipment.

1 out of 5 eggsStay Away

Pros: Decent Range

Cons: They have the tendency to reset themselves to default settings. This is a deal breaker in every sense.
When they lose connection from the modem, 95% of the time they have to be reset. This happens wil all routers at some point, but this one is everytime.

Other Thoughts: I started installing these in clients homes/offices, and I've had to replace almost half of them. They are not stable, reset themselves, lose WAN connection which requires reboot. I've lost a customer over these darn routers.

Use at your own peril.
I was a loyal Cisco/Linksys installer/dealer for years, not sure what happened. Beware the E900 line as well.

1 out of 5 eggsDONT PURCHASE - WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

Pros: NONE - SERIOUSLY

Cons: I am completely done with this company, I bought this router and from the minute I opened it I knew something was not gonna work. The CD was outdated (also does not work with Mountain Lion) and Im still not sure why they use CD's!!!

I downloaded the new version from their support page but I still was unable to fix the issue. The router would send out the signal but not connection. Ended up on the phone for over an hour just to find out I had received a defective product. I was told to return it but nothing else. I talked to Eric (27757) and he was just so incompetent that I am not sure why he's still the supervisor of tech support. I also received a call back from NORHALID (I believe he gave me a fake name) just to tell me that the router was outdated and he believe it needed an update on the firmware...after 2 hours on the phone!!!! Come on CISCO get it together, these people are worthless and have no idea what they are doing.

I will not be purchasing any more CISCO products in the future and will make sure to let other people know of my horrible experience with them.

WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY

DO NOT BUY!!!!

Other Thoughts: DONT BUY

Manufacturer Response:

We appreciate your honest and direct feedback and thank you for sharing it to us. We hope this won't be a hindrance for you to try and use our product again. Would you mind providing us the case number provided by Support Team or your contact details so we can help you out with your router?

4 out of 5 eggsA roller-coaster ride to a good product

Pros: Today, this is a great router with a solid feature set and dependable wireless access. The latest Linksys firmware supports both local administration (no Cloud account needed) and App-enabled remote administration. Fast throughput (within range).

Cons: Took Cisco this long to re-implement local administration without an account. Spent many months downgraded to the original (old-style) firmware because of this. Still no alternative firmware support (DD-WRT, etc.) from what I can tell. The range is also less than it should be for a WiFi router in this price range, but it's sufficient for me and my dozen devices.

Other Thoughts: Give it another shot if the firmware scared you off. I forgive Cisco for their blunder with Cloud Connect and requiring an account, now that they've turned around and re-enabled local access. I upgraded early on, downgraded when they provided that option, and decided to give their latest firmware a try (they mention in the change log that they re-enable local-only access to router settings). Well, it was worth it. I like the new interface compared to the legacy Linksys layout, and its more responsive than I remember. And no need for a Cloud Connect account!
