1 out of 5 eggsZero EGGS

Pros: zero

Cons: Requires CD software installation to even use this router

Immediately starts online account setup via linksys for management.

Other Thoughts: I refuse to use ANY router that requires software installation to even get in the thing.

I should be able to cable to a switch port and connect via my favorite browser to whatever subnet the router has given me: 192.168.x.1 and start configuring. In all my years this is the first I have EVER seen just worthless out of the box. Sorry but this is a MAJOR FAIL. I will not even waste my time to go further. I am not interested in having more bloatware clogging up my PC. It is unnecessary.

This router goes in the trash.

Get something else.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great range and easy to use. I have mine in my basement and it is strong on the second floor. I could move it to the first floor but have no need to. I don't use a lot of its features, but port forwarding is easy to set up (once you find it).

This is the best router I've ever used, never needing to be power-cycled (which I've had to do a lot on slower models of different brands).

Cons: Web setup is a maze. Runs a little hot, but it's doing a lot. Can't handle wirelessly streaming HD to several computers while Skyping and transferring files via remote desktop... but that seems reasonable.

Other Thoughts: Like so many other products, it's really amazing how many people list their tech knowledge as "high" then say something really dumb.

Pros: Dual Band, Slim, USB Storage.

Cons: "Smart" Wi-fi, Marvell chipset (No DD-WRT etc.), Slower than advertised speeds with Wi-Fi on either and both bands.

Other Thoughts: Not worth the money compared to other routers from linksys.

5 out of 5 eggsAWESOME

Pros: Any bad reviews for this router were made by beginners, or it was not setup correctly. This is by far the best router I have used and I highly recommend it.

Cons: NONE

Pros: I has tecnically is Wi-Fi

Cons: Horrible wireless speeds.

Other Thoughts: Just had one firmware release almost two years ago. They just hyped up a basic router. Absolutely not worth the money. Will make me think twice from buying a Linksys device again. Read all of the reviews.

2 out of 5 eggsLooked ok...

Pros: It looks cool and is slim.

Cons: I can't come even close to the advertised speeds nor distance. On my phone I cant get 20 ft away from my router without loosing the signal. On my computer-which is about 10 ft away from the router-I loose connection all the time! Even when I have connection, I get slow, low quality internet. The firmware also stinks, but you can read that in other reviews. I wish I could say something good about this router but I cant. With a $150 price tag it is not worth it. I'm not even sure if I would buy it if it was a penny.

Other Thoughts: I have been using linksys for almost 11 years now, and the 11th will be the last.

2 out of 5 eggswaste of time and money

Pros: After setup all good except usb features. Sees hard drive but no functions.

Cons: Firmware sucks. Tried several times to revert to Classic, no go. Back to stock and as soon as you reconnect it showed router not setup and wouldn't connect wirelessly. No dd-wrt, tomato, ect. options.

Other Thoughts: reliability is more important to me than speed or bells and whistles that are buggy. Going back to my Linksys wrt600n that has run hard 5+ years with no problems.

1 out of 5 eggsthrew mine out

Pros: The advertising for it is very seductive. A very large range. A very high bandwidth. Wow!

Cons: The real range was maybe a quarter the advertised range. It broke after 13 months when it was past warranty. I didn't want a replacement or a fix. I just need stuff that works.

Other Thoughts: So, I bought TWO WRT 54 GLs and connected one to the other with CAT 5. Now I have excellent connectivity through the whole house. Reliability is rock solid.

But the connectivity is for my guests. For my own purposes I ran, according to the need, CAT 5 and DVI all over the house.

When you see the high end linksys routers pulling in 5 stars and high reliability ratings like the WRT54GL, that will be the time to get one. Meantime I have an extra WRT54GL in the closet in case they stop making them.

So the question is, did linksys make a MISTAKE in marketing the WRT 54GL? Is it their INTENTION to make things that break just after warranty? You decide.

Anyhow, bottom line: I don't have time to mess with junk and warranty, so I just threw this out and moved on, as described.

2 out of 5 eggsAvoid

Pros: Wireless signal strength is very good.

Cons: Cabled connections through the RJ-45 ports fail. Printers and computers cabled to the device may not be seen and may fail after connecting to the internet.

Other Thoughts: Linksys/CISCO customer support laughed at me and could not supply a resolution. I even demanded and spoke to the senior shift lead. Linksys devices seem to have a life expectancy of a few years. This one lasted about a month - far to short for the high price demanded.

1 out of 5 eggsDied after 14 months

Pros: Provides route to external name mapped to internal IP address.

Cons: Signal strength not sufficient for 3 story house. Dies after 14 months.

Other Thoughts: Turned into a brick after 14 months - really? What a piece of garbage. Was it the wireless repeaters that sent it over the edge? Who knows.
