1 out of 5 eggsWaist Of Time and Money

Pros: NONE.

Cons: I took a chance on a refurbished. The router did not come with an owner’s manual so I had to go on line to find one. I could not sign on to the wireless page. The router would not accept the default password.
After several attempts I requested an RMA. Because it was a refurbished router (that someone else returned it) Newegg would only offer an exchange. The second router did not work either. I’m not sure if the unit I returned was mailed right back to me. I have not been able to use it. Total waist of money.

Other Thoughts: Don't by anything that you can't get a refund on!!!!!!!

1 out of 5 eggsGood once you look at reviews and find login

Pros: I always use Linksys and this works as good as all my other ones. I use them on farms to connect to cow milking robots so its pretty harsh conditions...

Cons: I messed around to 3 hours even talking to tech support for Linksys who told me the router was defective!! All because I couldn't log in and change what I needed. Decided to check reviews on it and bingo found my answer login password is google...really...really... it was necessary to change that?!?!

Other Thoughts: login=admin password=google

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Once you figure out that the refurb manufacturer has changed the firmware default login(!!), the basic wired and wireless functionality works as expected. Disclosure: Not using any of the advanced features, just basic wireless, wired, and guess access. See cons below for information.

Cons: Bless Lacey O.'s review with new "default" login. The purchase of this item was a list of cascading failures, that all could be remedied by small fixes. (Newegg.com, I'm looking at you!)

Don't expect the Linksys connect disk to work out of the box. It won't. Why? Who knows - perhaps because the dumb refurber changes the default login IN THE FIRMWARE.

So, if you follow the Linksys documentation on the CD provided, you'll never be able to login. How to fix? Oh, perhaps a scrap of paper in the shipping box that advises the user of the actual default login! The default login is admin/google, as also noted in Lacey's review.

If you seek technical suppport from the manufacturer, you'll quickly find out that Linksys did not do this refurb. So, why does Newegg list Linksys as the manufacturer? Good question. They need to list the refurb guys, not Linksys. Newegg needs to fix this.

The simplest fix, of course, would be for the refurber to set up the same login defaults as when the unit was new, to match the Linksys documentation.

Other Thoughts: Linksys E4200 refurb (remanufactured) login is username (admin), and password (google). Login IP address while wired is 192.168.1.1.

4 out of 5 eggsgot one that works (finally)

Pros: good speed, dual channel easy to navigate and assign, setup simple once you get one that works (see below).
Full props to Newegg for great return policy and free shipping for nonfunctional devices.

Cons: clunky setup if it does not work out of the box. Cisco CONNECT software was not helpful and seemed to be a distraction more than a help.

Other Thoughts: I had to get 3 of these reconditioned units before I found one that I could work with. I do not know whether it was me, my computer system, or the refurb units that did not work properly. However, the third worked easily.

My problems began when I got the first one and tried to set it up per directions, plugging it in as directed, using the Cisco CONNECT software (misnomer, but so it goes) and then having it fail I thought it would. My modem (Westell 6100G, supplied by Verizon) has the same IP address as the router. My experience with previous Linksys routers is that I had to set it to another IP address so there would be no conflicts. TO the best of my knowledge, the software did nothing to identify or solve that problem (how could it when they had me plug the modem into the router, then connect to the router; immediate conflict). WHen I tried to connect to the router directly it repeatedly rejected the username/password duo. For version 2, it should have been admin/admin, but it did not work for the first or second modems. I worked for hours with both of the first 2 modems, with Cisco on the phone, and couldn't get through to either of them. Newegg was very accommodating and paid for shipping back to them. On my third try, I ignored the software, disabled my wireless computer connection, disabled my spyware and antivirus and firewall, and got a splash screen I had never seen before when I used a wired connection with the router. I was then able to connect easily with the router, change the IP address, then it worked just fine. When it connected with my modem, either the modem or the router changed the router to another IP address, but I was able to access the router using myrouter.local and the new password I had chosen.
Throughput seems much better and once I got the blasted thing working, it worked well.

If you choose this and have to set it up with a modem which uses the same IP address (192.168.1.1) disable everything on a computer, set the router manually to another address ( 192.168.2.1 works fine) then plug it into your modem. Worked well for me.

Cisco seemed clueless as to how to fix this problem. Had to beat it into submission my self. Perhaps the refurbed units were faulty, perhaps they didn't like by basement, don't know. Works just fine now, but I've been beating around with this since late Dec.

3 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Has very good speed increase. I loved the interface. Very easy setup.

Cons: This is my 2nd EA4200 router and neither media server function has worked. The test your router speed function has not worked. Neither would accept my hard drive when I checked the Linksys list of accepted external hard drives to make sure it was compatible. I have had 2 other Linksys routers and the EA4200 has let me down. Even after reading all the reviews and checking different chat rooms for help I could never get the media option running.

1 out of 5 eggsWorthless Product

Pros: None, The unit I received did not work and neither did the replacement.

Cons: The unit that I received was defective and did not work. Even the replacement that I received did not work. Next time, I am ordering directly from Linksys. They told me that they would even test a unit for me before shipping.

It was a waste of my time and resources. I hope that I can get my money back...

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Router

Pros: Overall, it's a great router with this price. Fast.

Cons: The only complaint about it was the heat. Its bottom part gets hot. I don't know for long run, it's going to be an issue or not.

2 out of 5 eggsUnfortunate

Pros: Good router, nice speed, range and reliable. Love the USB port for attached media server.

Cons: Unfortunately, my first attempt at purchasing a refurb did not pan out. It died.

Other Thoughts: Entering the third month of happy usage, the router began losing connection; at first daily, then every few hours. I noticed a fair bit of heat being generated so I've gone back to my WRT54 until I buy a new ASUS RT-N66U, with warranty.

1 out of 5 eggsDead out of the box!!

Pros: none…o wait, it looked pretty when I opened the box the first time…it also looks pretty sitting in my garbage can….

Cons: no support, out of warranty, did not work

Other Thoughts: So I wrote a review last night, do not see it here, maybe it was edited away.

Out of the box, slid in the CD, did not load due to error. I have latest OS so the popup that said I was not up to date was incorrect.
Looked online for help…found all the usual complaints. Plugged in the router, followed helpful info from posts…panelist-ssid…..ughhhh
So, I could log on and tried to do the setup…password help info did not apply to me.
While trying this, the top light kept blinking worse than R2D2 getting his crankshaft lubed…then it all fuzzed out. The reset button on back does not work…
Called Linksys support…out of warranty, so sorry says the guy with a horrible accent…WHAT? No love for me, have to pay a fee…29.95 or 59.95…UGHHHH
Did not pay the fee, could not keep the loaded panelist-ssid up long enough to try the setup more than 3 minutes at a time…
Expensive piece of plastic sitting in my garbage can...

2 out of 5 eggsFinally got it to work.

Pros: Looks nice, light weight, 4 ports

Cons: Setup, Instructions, Customer Support!

I received the router and it only had a disc included. As I tried to set it up, the disc wouldn't run on my newer MacBook. Bummer! So I tried it on my older IMac and PC laptop and the disc worked however it couldn't find my router wirelessly. I contacted NewEgg and they couldn't help me at all and sent me to Linksys CS. They were able to TRY to help me during a 2.5 hour phone call. Eventually they decided it was defective since the username/passwords weren't working. I sent it back to NewEgg for a replacement. I receieved the new one and same issues!! After reading all the reviews I found out the log in is admin/google. NewEgg couldn't have included this in the package? Or at least been able to tell me over the phone. Linksys didn't know this was the password?? Great customer service-ha! I'm finally on it wirelessly a month later. Hopefully it's smooth sailing from here...

Other Thoughts: Login: ADMIN/GOOGLE!
