5 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: Had some connection problems but flashed to DD-WRT with not problems and now runs excellent. Well worth the hassle for the price

Cons: Had to flash DD-WRT to function at its best

Other Thoughts: Would buy again

5 out of 5 eggsWireless n Rocks

Pros: I have had a Linksys G router (54mbs) for sometime now and did not want to give up something rock solid but I'm really glad I have tried the Linksys N router (300mbs) made all the differance in the world talking to todays Internet. Can not tell it is a Refurb so far....

Cons: Had a little trouble getting it to set up with the CD that came with it, so I opened up IE ,typed in the Linksys Ip address and went that way(192.168.1.1) worked great.

Other Thoughts: Did not try using Tech support, If I did not have the Knowledge I have Im sure it would be helpful. And as always NewEgg Rocks.....

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome home networking

Pros: Easy set-up, it took less than 10 minutes. The router set-up software makes it exceptionally easy for people new to home networking while the normal interface is very familiar to previous networkers. The range is very good for no external antennas.

Cons: No external antennas, so the range cannot be extended by putting a signal booster on the antenna

Other Thoughts: Works very well, i have a two story house and no good central location for a router, so I used it in conjunction with my previous B/G router and was able to configure an access point at the opposite end of the house. This configuration (both are Cisco) has worked so well I ordered another one of these routers so that way I can have Wireless N coverage in my entire house. I would recommend this to anyone who needs a low price router and doesn't need gigabit inter-connectivity.

5 out of 5 eggsExceptional Value

Pros: Great performance at a great price. This unit is replacing an aged Netgear WNR2000 that started to randomly restart. What a pleasant surprise to get a unit in great physical and operating condition. Unit has been up and running solid for 2 weeks. This is actually the second refurb Linksys that I have ever owned and (so far) both have been solid. Router came with the latest firmware and I made sure to disable WMM in the QoS. I actually missed the Linksys user interface. Wireless range is very good, better than the Netgear it replaced and the WRT54G before that.

Cons: Only indicator lights on the unit are on the cat5 ports, and even they can be turned off. I like be able to check on router activity with a simple glance at the router. Not so easy with this unit. However, it has been fast and stable for almost 2 week without a restart - making is so I don't really need to be checking on it... I am not in love with the form factor as to me it's really not as functional (can't be set up vertically) or informative (no front or top lights).

Other Thoughts: An excellent performer that may not be the cutting edge in router technology but is quite a refurbished bargain - if you get it on some of the daily specials or promo codes the deal just gets better.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Inexpensive, particularly for refurb
Good Range
Excellent speed
Ability to share a hard drive is a nice plus

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have a refurb Linksys E1000 that I've been running for almost a year with excellent results. I bought the 1550 for my son who had an old "g" router, based on the fact that this router was similar to my E1000. I performed two simple modifications to both routers (this will void what little warranty there is). The Broadcom chip inside runs hot, so I attached a small heatsink to the chip to keep it a little cooler. Secondly, one of the wires running from the circuit board to one of the antennas runs underneath the circuit board. I found with testing on my E1000 that I could get approximately another 2-3db of signal (measured from my laptop in another room) by routing the wire above the circuit board. I suspect that the circuit board ground plane attenuates the signal when the wire is in contact with it.

I live in a rural area where there aren't too many other wireless routers nearby, so the router is able to output a 40MHz channel, giving me 300Mbps. I'm getting speeds of 10-11 MB/s transferring files between my desktop & laptop computers, which is about the limit of the 100Mbps wired ethernet, so the wireless speed is excellent.

1 out of 5 eggsDead after 1 week

Pros: Surprisingly good range. Nice size and form factor. Easy to network setup and configuration

Cons: Router dropped connection with cable modem after a few days and had difficulty reestablishing its connection to the internet. Worked fine for a week after that, but now will not communicate with modem despite numerous reboot attempts, etc....

Other Thoughts: Returned for replacement, but shipping costs negate the benefit of purchase. Very disappointed product is not of the same quality as my 6 year old Linksys B/G router (which still performs flawlessly) and that New egg doesn't pay for return shipping! This is my third attempt to post a review, and am disappointed that they seem to be filtering out negative comments...
