1 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Linksys AE2500-NP High Performance Dual-Band Wireless-N Adapter IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates

Pros: Simple to set up

Cons: -Gets very hot very quick
-Large downloads kill it
-High latency games kill it
-Video streaming kills it
-Audio streaming kills it
-Pretty much anything that requires internet will knock out the adapter and disconnect the internet

Other Thoughts: If you only use the internet for google searches and facebook, you can get away with this adapter. If you use the internet for ANYTHING else, find another. It's not worth the headache.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi,

We value your response to this product. Let us help you check into the situation.

How long have you been using the adapter? How far is it from the router? What is the internet speed on the computer now? Tell us the steps you have tried by sending an email to LinksysCares@linksys.com, indicating your name, location, contact details and the link to this post.

We'd be glad to hear from you.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't!

This review is from: Linksys AE2500-NP High Performance Dual-Band Wireless-N Adapter IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates

Pros: I would have been more than happy to give this 0 eggs if that was an option. A buddy of mine gave me one of these because he couldn't connect to his network about 30 ft away from his antenna in his yard. We swapped out a Rosewell network device and his problems went away. Now...I'm waiting to get my paycheck to make sure I never have to see this device again after I run over it with my car.

Cons: If Cisco were giving these away...that would still be way too much money for me or anyone to spend on this. I can set my watch for every time this device drops the connection. For instance...was reloading a friend's laptop with an internal wireless card and was able to get a consistent five bars AND never had the connection drop in several hours. This Cisco device will never get five bars and fluctuates between one and four bars...even sitting in the same room as my wireless router.

Other Thoughts: Don't let the name fool you. Cisco should be ashamed for putting their name on something like this.

2 out of 5 eggsmostly disappointed

This review is from: Linksys AE2500-NP High Performance Dual-Band Wireless-N Adapter IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates

Pros: Works with little hassle

Cons: Slower than expected speed for the price.
Often froze up while loading a larger webpage, and sometimes even while it was going to sites like the google homepage.
Overheats rather easily.
Owned it for about a year now, and it no longer works. Probably killed itself with the overheating. Tested on multiple computers, and they all give the same 3-beep failure tone when device is plugged in. I'm severely disappointed with a product this expensive from a company as well known as Linksys.

Other Thoughts: Maybe it will last longer for you if you unplug it while not using it (it was even heating up when the computer was in standby mode) but what's the point of that extra hassle when you're spending this kind of money for it? It should work and last much longer without any extra intervention.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Ryan,

We appreciate your time in reviewing the Linksys AE2500. Slow wireless connection can be caused by a wireless interference or any conflict on other networks or devices. Updating the driver software of the wireless adapter will boost its connection speed.

You may download the drivers from this link: http://support.linksys.com/en-us/support/adapters/AE2500

Can you still see the adapter listed in Device Manager? We need to further isolate the overheating case. Kindly send us an email at LinksysCares@linksys.com with your contact details and the link to this review.

1 out of 5 eggsThere are better options

This review is from: Linksys AE2500-NP High Performance Dual-Band Wireless-N Adapter IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates

Pros: I cannot say there are many pros to owning this piece of hardware except they are in stock locally and are easy to access if your other adapter fails or ceases to function.

Cons: Does not keep connection. Constantly disconnects. Quickly overheats. Terrible support. I would not recommend this to a friend. Over priced. Terrible signal strength.

Other Thoughts: Try something else if you need a reliable internet connection.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsPass

This review is from: Linksys AE2500-NP High Performance Dual-Band Wireless-N Adapter IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates

Pros: Installs quickly...

Cons: ...I wanted to uninstall just as quickly

Other Thoughts: Bought from a local retailer and not new-egg because I needed it now. Glad I can return it with only the hassle of a 5 minute drive and not waiting around for a RMA. Same distance from my router and yet 20% lower signal strength. Also about 20% lower speed (117Mbps vs 144Mbps) than my failing WNDA3100. Of course it dropped and stayed at 34Mbps for a good long while before it stabilized at 117. Choked on reloading a page while downloading a whopping 38MB file. Didn't wait around to try anything fancy like streaming something. Did get a bit warmer than my current adapter as others have reviewed. Think I'll stick with Net-gear. Mine is dying and still works better.

1 out of 5 eggsToo hot, crashes

This review is from: Linksys AE2500-NP High Performance Dual-Band Wireless-N Adapter IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates

Pros: It worked well, until it didn't.

Cons: Ran WAY too hot, actually ran so hot that it crashed itself. If I put a fan on it I could keep it running, but who the heck wants to actively cool an USB network card?

Other Thoughts: RMA'd this thing, returned it and I'm just using an old as dirt Dlink adapter.

2 out of 5 eggsAwful product

This review is from: Linksys AE2500-NP High Performance Dual-Band Wireless-N Adapter IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates

Pros: Connects to network

Cons: The device will overheat and seize up any time you are doing anything that is more network intensive than viewing a webpage. Don't bother trying to download any large files, download games from Steam or stream any sort of intensive media. It WILL disconnect and the only way to reconnect will be to either reboot the system or reconnect the USB device.

Other Thoughts: There is NO resolution for this problem and Linksys has not put out a drive for 2+ years on it. Don't bother buying it.

4 out of 5 eggsIt's a decent wireless adapter

This review is from: Linksys AE2500-NP High Performance Dual-Band Wireless-N Adapter IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates

Pros: -Reliable
-Works great with windows 7
-Connection stays strong

Cons: -It will not work for windows 8, as said in the specifications
-If you plan on upgrading your operating system to windows 8, you might as well get something else

Other Thoughts: As said in the specifications, this wireless adapter is only compatible with windows 7 and older generations. Some people wrote a bad review on this because they learned that this is not comparable with windows 8 the hard way. It's common sense to read the specifications and determine whether or not this is meant for you.

1 out of 5 eggsNo Support for Win 8 or 8.1

This review is from: Linksys AE2500-NP High Performance Dual-Band Wireless-N Adapter IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates

Pros: Works fine with win 7

Cons: DO NOT buy if you are using windows 8, or especially 8.1
They only offer support for Windows 7. Pretty sad since windows 8 has been released for over a year now. constant disconnects in windows 8 and 8.1, their latest drivers are 1 1/2 years old, and of course for windows 7, and earlier only. Even the Windows 8 compatible site shows this as incompatible for 8 or 8.1

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable, power and driver issues

This review is from: Linksys AE2500-NP High Performance Dual-Band Wireless-N Adapter IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates

Pros: Compact form-factor, high speed transfers under perfect conditions.

Cons: This device worked intermittently with my PC and Win7. I RMA'd it and had the same problem. Borrowed a friend's computer and it worked fine. Turned out my power supply wasn't providing consistent power and getting a new power supply fixed the Win7 issue. Upgraded to Win8 and the device started disconnecting (warning icon in device manager "Device could not start.")
