5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good!

Pros: Excellent speeds thus far; set up in 15-20 mins; units are fairly small and allow other appliances to be plugged into a US-standard 2-outlet wall socket; works as advertised.

Cons: Slightly fiddly setup; utility that comes on CD is not latest version.

Other Thoughts: I live in a 100-year-old house with thick walls. My cable modem and wireless router are upstairs where the cable enters the house, and my wireless connectivity downstairs has always been awful. Bought this kit a few days ago to address the problem. The setup was slightly fiddly -- lights on the 2 units not lighting up when they should, etc -- but I just yanked both out of the power sockets once or twice, and eventually they found the wireless router as well as each other. I caused myself more problems than necessary by removing security from my router and then putting it back on, but the Cisco units picked up the security settings directly from the router very nicely.

The instructions on the Linksys support page are very good, BUT one thing is incorrect. The two units do NOT have to be connected to wall sockets on the same circuit breaker. (That would be very limiting -- in my house a single circuit breaker covers a single room, or part of a room.) The sockets DO have to be on the same electrical panel in your house.

So far downstairs I have about 5x or 6x the wireless speed I had before, as measured by I'm happy.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat kit and then some

Pros: I live in a historic home built in the 1880's, a three story with dense walls. My router is located close to the cable entry in the back of the house. The front would have spotty wifi connection. The set up and use of this kit is very good. The front of the house now has 5 bars from the new access point.
I also added a PLSK400-NP Powerline AV 4-Port Network Adapter Kit at the same time. Using the included software all the adapters were seen and are working properly. Latency doesn't appear to be an issue at all, I'm extremely impressed.

Cons: None

4 out of 5 eggsLinksys - Cisco Products

Pros: all of these units are really plug and play, they find the other end quickly and work flawlessly. As long as you read the instruction and/or kinow how they work. They must be on the same electrical circuit. Most house are and it is no big deal. Can also be used in conjunction with a hub or swicth. Solid performance.

Cons: The wireless protion required a bit of technical know-how, it is seen as two devices, one for the line connection (ethernet) and another as a wireless access point.

Other Thoughts: any device works as design, not as you expect - read the description and research the devices at manufacturer's website. DO NOT GUESS when it comes to technology, your will mostly be disappointed. (read the cons on other reveiws)

1 out of 5 eggsCan't buy an additional PLW400!!

Pros: works - does what it is advertised to do

Cons: what is the point of calling this a kit if you can't buy a PLW400 stand alone. The only way to extend this beyond one room is to get another whole kit! Wow - can't believe a company like Cisco would do something like this.

5 out of 5 eggsPotential saver for extending WiFi

Pros: Simple way to extend the WiFi in a home or office, use CD to program WiFi setting and you are ready to install, simple install by plugging in to electric plugs, workes well when exectric in location is OK to connect. These devices are on the 3rd revision and work better and better.

Cons: Does not work in all situations, must be on same circuit breaker box and ultimately on same leg of box. I have used a additional device that works in a home situation and "bridges" the 2 sides of the circuit breaker box through your electric dryer plug.

1 out of 5 eggsPLWK400-NP

Pros: Worked in same room with router but just not as fast.

Cons: Didn't work at full speed in in living area. I was getting a 20 mbps download speed wifi in my living room originally. After connecting device I received 4 mbps download speed being connected directly to device. Wifi was the same. I used same computer and comcast speed test to test speed.

Other Thoughts: Wish it would of worked.

1 out of 5 eggsUseless

Pros: Zero

Cons: This is advertised by Cisco/Linksys as being able to work anywhere in your house. It does not. After several hours with Linksys tech support trying to get this thing to work from 1 outlet to an adjacent 1 I asked the tech if we were able to actually get the thing to work where it was, if it would work upstairs where I wanted to use it on a different circuit.

(Name Removed): No. The powerline adapter will only work if they are on the same circuit breaker for them to be able to communicate with each other. Our devices are designed for small offices only.

I can't imagine an office so small that it has only 1 circuit that would need a wireless range extender. This item is useless. After the tech told me this I left the chat and RMA to newegg. newegg RMA was awesome as expected.

Other Thoughts: Would not recognize both adapters on same circuit unless both were connected to the router via rj45 (VerizonFios supplied Actiontec router). Could not get this to work after several hours with tech support. Gave up after realizing that this would not perform the way it was advertised. Even the fine print at the bottom of the product tour says it will work on all power outlets in an electrical system. I purchased this after watching the newegg tv on powerline networking with the guy from Qualcomm where he says how great these things are and how surge protectors and different circuits don't affect performance of these devices anymore like it did a few years ago. The idea is great and I could definitely use this as my router is in one corner of the house and I have very weak signal at the opposite corner upstairs. Even if you have only one circuit in your house or office, I would avoid this item. I'll have to read some reviews of other brands before I try again. I tried this even though there were no reviews on the product here at newegg. Taking one for the team. Avoid this product.
