2 out of 5 eggsV3 NOT DD-WRT COMPATIBLE

Pros: Looks to be a great router. Nice design, fast speeds, but can't use it, since it's not DD-WRT or Tomato compatible. ONLY V1 and V2 are custom firmware ready.

I'm sure this is a great router (I did buy it afterall), but only giving two eggs due to the misleading title.

"Linksys E2500-NP Dual-Band Wireless N600 Router, DD-WRT Open Source Support, IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n"

Cons: As you've read above, V3 does not support DD-WRT, nor Tomato. The title of this product is misleading. If Linksys would build Wireless Repeater functionality into their basic firmware, this wouldn't be an issue.

Other Thoughts: I'm a former Google employee. I did everything I could to try and make this work. Maybe someday in the future it'll be ready to run.

5 out of 5 eggsDual Band Winner

Pros: Has never malfunctioned yet, stays moderately cool, dual band helps when you can use it, great bandwidth for multiple wireless devices. Has moderate range for wi-fi. See cons for more, however.

Cons: I've noticed the wireless range on this one is a bit lacking; however that's probably due to the lack of an antenna. Wireless strength is good on a horizontal level, but not as much if you're above or below it.

Other Thoughts: Great overall router; I've owned two of these and they both perform great. Hopefully they will last 3 years like my last Linksys router did.

1 out of 5 eggsReally Newegg?

Pros: none

Cons: 11 Days since I ordered and status says expected next Wednesday.... 16 days after order date. I didn't expect this from Newegg.

Other Thoughts: This ruins one planned Christmas gift.

5 out of 5 eggsSatisfied Customer!

Pros: Very easy to set up, lots of features and data throughput is fast. Range is average but I knew that before I bought it.

Cons: None, really. A little more range would be nice, though.

Other Thoughts: I needed a new wifi router because the kraptacular unit the cable company provided me was horrible. I found this unit on sale and it had good overall reviews, so I gave it a shot. I hard wired it to the wifi modem from the cable company and in just a few minutes I was up and running. I have connected my TVs, DVD players, tablets and computers to this new wifi router and it works flawlessly.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well

Pros: Works well out of the box, I like the slim AC adapter. DD-WRT support is a nice feature.

Cons: Setup CD's for routers are a disaster of an idea, I wish Linksys would stop using them. The router is easily configured without it.

1 out of 5 eggsLack of gigabit ethernet is a huge blunder

Pros: Dual-band with DD-WRT support makes for a great router.

Cons: Does not have gigabit ethernet! How am I supposed to utilize the potential 600 Mbps wifi throughput when the ethernet port connected to my file server only runs at 100 Mbps?! This was a foolish blunder made by Linksys.

Other Thoughts: This could have been perfect, but lack of gigabit ethernet makes this hardware unacceptable for my application. I regret buying this.

2 out of 5 eggsLinksys Router

Pros: RIP enabled ..handy if you have more than one of these deployed. (But I have no idea how well it plays with other models/manufacturers)

Guest access is now customizable from within the web interface instead of just in the Cisco Connect executable.

Cons: Yet another headache from Linksys. As many people have reported, the Cisco connect software did not detect that the router was connected. Forcing a reset and logging in direct (192.168.1.1) without an ISP connection only brought up an enigmatic "Firmware Update" page in the browser that is not part of the Web interface.

Selecting 'cancel' resulted repeatedly in a lost connection to the router, requiring a reset and reboot to get it back - only to arrive at the same page again.

Contacted Tech support, 45 minutes and many reboots later I was told I needed to send it back to Newegg.

Um, not so fast.

Finally, got in by downloading the firmware update (to the *current* version already loaded ) and letting it flash anyway. Afterwards, Cisco Connect still reported no router connected but it was wrong and I was in.

Made the needed configuration changes -- #1 was cloning my PC's MAC address -- changed the security settings, crossed my fingers and rebooted everything.

It works.

Other Thoughts: I have had the same exact or similar problem with other Linksys SOHO routers, so I was ready to pitch the Cisco Connect software immediately. I recommend anyone considering any Linksys router do a Google search for problems before proceeding. The router seems to work fine but installation is a mess.
