5 out of 5 eggsEasy install..very fast

This review is from: Linksys AE6000 Selectable Dual Band AC580 Mini Wireless Adapter IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 430 or 150Mbps Wireless Data Rates WPA2

Pros: easy installation

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: read review about win 8.1... stuck it in in another unit that is 8.1..was recognized immediately..functioned fine. router is U-verse Motorola NVG510. Using it mostly on Shuttle DS81 running Win 7 though.

1 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Linksys AE6000 Selectable Dual Band AC580 Mini Wireless Adapter IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 430 or 150Mbps Wireless Data Rates WPA2

Pros: Advertised to support Wireless-AC on 5 GHz @ 450 Mbps or Wireless-N on 2.4 Ghz @ 150 Mbps. May work with Windows Seven or Vista.

Cons: Will not work with Windows 8.1 and LinkSys router. Support staff admits that Linksys does not have a WiFi adapter that will work with their routers ( or any other ones) under Windows 8.1. Their suggestion is to run a CAT5e cable to your computer from their router. In addition they will not even commit to a fix in the device driver that they furnish on the CD or that can be downloaded from their website.

Other Thoughts: Hard to below that LInkSys (Cisco) can not provide a WiFi solution from any of their routers to a PC using one of their WiFi adapters.

3 out of 5 eggsWhen it works, it works well

This review is from: Linksys AE6000 Selectable Dual Band AC580 Mini Wireless Adapter IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 430 or 150Mbps Wireless Data Rates WPA2

Pros: - Fast enough.
- Small.
- Blue LED shows activity.
- Still has the Cisco logo!
- You can download and install the driver only, no cr@pware utilities here.

Cons: - Kind of expensive, for what it is.
- USB 2.0
- Occasionally it is not recognized by the PC at startup, so Windows does not load the driver. It will show in Device Manager as Unknown USB Device.
If you plug it out, wait a few seconds, then plug it back in, it is identified correctly as Linksys AE6000, Win loads the driver and everything works well. This problem occurs with 2 different AE6000 adapters and two separate laptops, so it's not an issue of defective unit or some mobo USB controller problem.
This issue occurs ON AVERAGE about 1 in 5 startups.

Other Thoughts: I have two of these, for two laptops. I have them setup to connect to my RT-AC68U on the 5GHz band only. Connection speed is shown as 433Mb/s, both in router and in Windows. In real life, I managed to get an average as high as 138Mb/s when copying a 6GB DVD folder from my NAS.
Driver installation is nice and easy the old fashioned way - plug it in, point Windows to the folder where you downloaded the driver, and everything installs fast and easy. (BTW, to avoid any conflicts, disable your built-in WiFi adapter first from Device Manager and restart the computer, to make sure that driver is unloaded. Then plug in the AE6000 and install the driver.)

This little device is a nice upgrade for an older laptop. It's dual band, and it's fast. In my apartment building, everyone is on 2.4GHz networks, mine is the only one on 5, so I get absolutely no interference on the 5GHz band. So I just moved all my toys on 5GHz, where the air is clear. Thanks to these adapters I could get these two older laptops to connect on the 5GHz band also.

As I mentioned previously, the only problem I have with these is the disconnects at startup. I don't know if it's a hardware problem, but the fact that it requires the adapter to be physically disconnected and reconnected in order to get it to be recognized properly again, kind of points towards a hardware issue with the device. For that and for the price I'll deduct 2 stars.

- Easy setup (of course)
- About as big as your thumbnail

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I paired this adapter with an EA6900 wireless router. Its a great combo and provided a nice upgrade to my home network.

4 out of 5 eggsit reaches 433Mbps

This review is from: Linksys AE6000 Selectable Dual Band AC580 Mini Wireless Adapter IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 430 or 150Mbps Wireless Data Rates WPA2

Pros: It's small, driver loads fine after failing in Win7. Little blue light shows the data activity. Data transfer was sustained at 10MB from a wired PC for a 2GB file. It performed well, no issues.

Cons: it could be smaller. it could be faster - my router is supposed to reach 1700Mbps!!

1 out of 5 eggsBackward compatible a big NO!!!

This review is from: Linksys AE6000 Selectable Dual Band AC580 Mini Wireless Adapter IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 430 or 150Mbps Wireless Data Rates WPA2

Pros: Sounds like a great concept.

Cons: Not backwards compatible like box says. if you want this to work your most likely have to upgrade your router to a smart router as well

Other Thoughts: It's hit or miss with compatible routers and systems.
I will most likely try the Netgear 802.11ac adapter instead.
I've never had any problems with linksys before now.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing alternative!

This review is from: Linksys AE6000 Selectable Dual Band AC580 Mini Wireless Adapter IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 430 or 150Mbps Wireless Data Rates WPA2

Pros: Less than 1 cubic centimetre and it delivers an amazingly stable download speed and low ping. Great alternative to built in wifi cards especially the one that used to be inside my computer.

Cons: None, maybe the availability of USB ports?

Other Thoughts: Was the price a little high? Maybe but it didn't seem like a reason to drop the rating
