4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Does exactly what it's supposed to do. I installed this for a family member who wanted wireless router to install at his business, and it worked very well for his needs. Signal drops to 2 bars at the very edges of his store, but it's a big, rectangular-shaped store. I'm quite happy with how this worked out.

The price is also very good for what you're getting.

Cons: Installation was somewhat of a pain because the web interface gave me a few headaches. After I rebooted the first time, it refused to let me back in. Tried with a few different browsers and nothing. After about 30 minutes of tinkering around, trying different browsers, etc, I finally just factory reset the thing and configured it again, and it was happy from then on. No idea what that was all about..

More of a minor annoyance, but I took off one egg for it.

5 out of 5 eggsWow!

Pros: I didn't know what to expect but anything could have been better than the single band netgear router Comcast gave me when I signed up for Xfinity. That router still costs more than this one without any added wireless adapter! Are you kidding me? Anyway:

My first router without an antennae. I live in a 3 story house. The router is in the basement, and I get coverage in the upstairs bedrooms, as well as the far corner of my back yard.

It is very light but it is compatible with a lot of different firmware tools out there and it just seems like Linksys got this one RIGHT.

Cons: The lightness bothers me. I hate when a device is lighter than the cables connected to it. It's absurd to me. No, I don't expect them to put weights in the thing but I wish I could find some super thin ethernet cables. I have accidentally unplugged the ethernet cable from a PC and with only a small amount of movement the cable tipped the router over. No big deal but it's time that cables start adapting to the size and weight of our gadgets.

I wish Linksys and Netgear would jump on the wagon and include drivers on all of their adapters. My 6 year old 54mbps Qwest adapter has onboard flash for drivers, and that thing was free, they handed them out like candy. Having to store the drivers on a thumb drive or download them over and over because I can't find the thumb drive, that gets old, fast. and no, Windows 7 64 pro, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 do not have compatible plug and play drivers for the AE2500.

Other Thoughts: Signal strength is amazing under most conditions. I have 4 computers, 3 with different wifi adapters and one tethered through internet to this router, as well as 3 tablets, a TV, two phones and friends and family who all automatically connect the second they're within range. I have never had to reset this router, my last Asus and most recent Netgear routers had to be reset constantly because of DNS conflicts from Comcast. This router adapts.

The wireless adapter feels a bit on the rough plastic side but it performs as well as a more expensive linksys adapter I spent 60 bucks on at another store. I recently switched back to stock software for compatibility with some older phones.

At first I was like BLEGH when I first started messing with the E2500's remote setup page. After a while it made sense that they put things the way they were. You can flash whatever you want to it, but it isn't intrusive with useless "tips" and it is more logical to have the categories of settings laid out the way they are. Client table belongs in Local Network, not wireless or administration where I see it everywhere else!

4 out of 5 eggsBlack Friday Deal

Pros: This thing is easy to set up, but can go beyond the call of out-of-the-box-defaults duty. I have 2 TVs, 2 laptops, a tablet, 2 phones, and my computer hooked up at any given time with no noticeable network bogging. Also comes with a USB adapter, but I haven't used it.

Cons: Kind of a pro, if you found yourself in a gun or knife fight you could use the packaging this thing was sent in for self defense.

Other Thoughts: It's a good router, is it going to knock anyone socks off? Probably not, but I got this thing for 40 bucks so I'm OK with it.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Quick and easy setup. Plugged it in and was working in a few minutes

Cons: Poor range and speed. The wireless output is terrible for a Dual Band N router.

Other Thoughts: Wireless speeds on the opposite end of the house dropped from 9mbps to under 1mbps. Immediately returned and reverted to my old router.

2 out of 5 eggsEasy to use, Subpar performance

Pros: Very easy to use and setup. Literally took 5 minutes to get running. Been running for over a year with no problems.

Cons: The wifi output is very poor. I get 55mbps from the IPS and was only getting 18mbps (using internet speed test) sitting 10 feet away.

I swapped it for my older WRT-610N (a high end router from 2008/2009) and got a full 55mbps in the next room! You should spend the extra 20 bucks or so on a performance router otherwise you will see very little improvement from wireless G.

5 out of 5 eggsThe Best

Pros: Out of the box, plugged in, set up, and working well. Just what you want when you are setting up your home network.

Cons: I have nothing negative to say about this unit.

Other Thoughts: Have tried other wireless routers, but this is the easiest to set up and get working. No doubt about it. Good job Linksys!
