5 out of 5 eggsImpressed!

This review is from: Linksys WRT1200AC Wireless AC1200 Dual-Band and Wi-Fi Wireless Router with Gigabit and USB 3.0 Ports and eSATA

Pros: "Smart WiFi" - made setup very easy. Also, I have a second identical router at a different location, and remote admin via "Smart WiFi" is very strong. You've got to try this.
Automatic firmware updates is a plus.

Cons: Not a thing of beauty - very plain compared to other brands. I prefer routers that sit on a shelf like a book instead of laying flat. I'll live with it.

Other Thoughts: I groan whenever I need to swap out a router. I have many devices that need DHCP Reservations and port forwarding, and it has always been tedious and time consuming. This morning, I pulled my ASUS RT-AC68U (going in for warranty repair) and plugged in a new Linksys WRT1200AC into the modem. I was pleasantly surprised that it picked up the ip addresses of all my devices, and on the Network Map screen I was able to add reservations with just a click. This was the easiest router install experience I've ever had by a long shot.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid product.

This review is from: Linksys WRT1200AC Wireless AC1200 Dual-Band and Wi-Fi Wireless Router with Gigabit and USB 3.0 Ports and eSATA

Pros: The range on this router is excellent.
It has a nice simplistic design.
Bandwidth loss on Wi-Fi is non-existent, VERY solid signal strength. From the basement all the way to the top floor I get great signal strength.

Cons: No cons to date.

2 out of 5 eggsJust skip this and the higher 1900ac

This review is from: Linksys WRT1200AC Wireless AC1200 Dual-Band and Wi-Fi Wireless Router with Gigabit and USB 3.0 Ports and eSATA

Pros: Well this is actually a decent router for the price except the on large con

Cons: Using 2.4ghz band will give you exactly half of your bandwidth. I.e. if you ISP is 100mbit down you'll get 50 mbit down on the 2.4 ghz band and 100 on the 5ghz band.
Changing the security setting away from anything but wpa/wpa2 mixed personnel will actually result in even worse performance

Other Thoughts: I'm usually one of the people that gives companies the benefit of the doubt but the way I was treated through the service chat has resulted in me personally no longer buying from linksys. I will be selling my model on eb@.y and moving to another manufacturer

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsDefective

This review is from: Linksys WRT1200AC Wireless AC1200 Dual-Band and Wi-Fi Wireless Router with Gigabit and USB 3.0 Ports and eSATA

Pros: Tons of great features! Open source! USB 3.0!

Cons: Experiencing the same exact problems others are having with this router. Progressive WiFi speeds instead of, consistent speeds. All problems point at WiFi and sometimes the Ethernet too acts up with speed issues. I have a Zoom 5586J cable modem and it works perfectly fine directly bypassing router to computer, (wired of course).

Other Thoughts: Linksys has always been my favorite network brand of all kinds. Now, it seems that Belkin is killing the brand sadly. Going for a TP Link Archer C7 instead.

Manufacturer Response:

To improve your connection, we suggest you set a fix channel for your wireless network. You can use either channel 1, 6, or 11. Make sure also that the router holds the updated firmware. 2 out of 5 eggsYou don't get what you pay for

This review is from: Linksys WRT1200AC Wireless AC1200 Dual-Band and Wi-Fi Wireless Router with Gigabit and USB 3.0 Ports and eSATA

Pros: Solid speed, easy to set up, familiar Linksys look, came with a free 8 port switch

Cons: This unit was purchased because I was sick of monkeying with cheap, "bang for the buck" wireless access points so decided to invest some coin in what I thought was a solid Linksys product. When it works, this wireless router does the job well and I've been able to get 20MB/s of speed over Wifi with it.

However, the router reboots randomly or wireless simply goes down at random. I've tried many different troubleshooting steps available in the forums but to no avail. If I visit a page with lots of GIFs or have multiple devices using a decent amount of bandwidth, the router will reliably drop all wireless connections.

This is useless and I'm looking for a different wireless router.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Michael,

We appreciate you taking your time in sharing this review with us. We understand you were having some challenge with your WRT1200AC and we're here to help you out. Since you've been experiencing random reboots, we suggest you update your router's firmware. You can download the updated one here: http://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=156197

Let us know should you need further assistance. Email us at LinksysCares@linksys.com and please include your contact information and the link to this post.

1 out of 5 eggsWorks if you want poor security

This review is from: Linksys WRT1200AC Wireless AC1200 Dual-Band and Wi-Fi Wireless Router with Gigabit and USB 3.0 Ports and eSATA

Pros: It looks great. Feels heavy, which is a sign of reliability?

Cons: I get about 2-10 Mbps 5 feet from the router. After a bunch of troubleshooting I figured out the problem.... If you have only WPA2 security enabled (which is how you should have it for strongest security) then it kills your internet speeds. Switch it to WPA/WPA2 and it works better but still not great.

I have been dealing with their support and the people that write all those replies to reviews that makes them look like they care. The first thing they have you do to make it work is to decrease your security. Since I told them that is unacceptable I have been getting promises of getting escalated to Level 2 support. Then they stopped communicating with me. Nothing.

I only used Linksys routers since my first one probably 15 years ago, now I will never use one or recommend it to anyone ever again. My 5 year old Linksys router could work in WPA2 only mode but one of their latest one's can't? I am past the return period and Linksys refuses to refund my money so I am stuck with an expensive paperweight.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsWorks Good, but has issues

This review is from: Linksys WRT1200AC Wireless AC1200 Dual-Band and Wi-Fi Wireless Router with Gigabit and USB 3.0 Ports and eSATA

Pros: When it is operating normally I have zero issues with this router. I get fast downloads and have signal all though my house.

Cons: About every 3-4 days I have to reboot the router because I can barely access the internet. Resetting my cable modem has had no effect on anything but when I am finally able to log into the EXTREMELY SLOW web interface and finally able to bring up the menu to reboot it, it then works great for a few more days. I honestly thought that for the price this would have a great interface but it is all web based and I can't even access it if my internet speed is so slow. One speed test was less than .1mbs but my internet is over 100mbs. The number of times I've had to reboot this router is somewhat ridiculous considering the age and price of it.

I've updated firmware a few times and it still does not seem to be improving.

Other Thoughts: Overall I like the features and it's great when it's working but when it stops working it is very frustrating.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi, Michael B.,

We thank you for taking the time to provide your comprehensive review about the WRT1200AC router. We understand that you're not completely happy with the product because of the intermittent internet connection that you've been experiencing every 3-4 days, and we regret to hear about this. An intermittent connection may also have something to do with the Internet Service Provider (ISP) you are subscribed to. To test if you are having connectivity issues with your ISP, connect one (1) computer directly to the modem using an Ethernet cable and observe the connection for a few hours. If you're still getting connectivity problems, contact your ISP for technical support. Another workaround we can try is to disable the UPnP feature of the router. Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) allows the automatic configuration of a device’s settings once it connects to your router. If UPnP is enabled, your router will try to adjust to the new wireless client or may open or close several ports. UPnP should be disabled if you have devices connected to the network that needs port forwarding or triggering. For further assistance, you may contact us at LinksysCares@linksys.com with your contact details along with the link to this post.

Sincerely,

Linksys Support

1 out of 5 eggsComplete Junk

This review is from: Linksys WRT1200AC Wireless AC1200 Dual-Band and Wi-Fi Wireless Router with Gigabit and USB 3.0 Ports and eSATA

Pros: It looks great. It has a lot of features.

Cons: WiFi connection sucks. My $35 TP-Link access point has faster WiFi.

I couldn't believe that I was getting 2Mbps connection on this router when I set it up. I did some testing between my old Linksys E3000 router and my TP-Link access point. Both the old Linksys router and and the TP-Link access point averaged 30Mbps, never below 27Mbps. This new Linksys router averaged 10Mbps with the connection often less than 2Mbps. I tried different channels and made sure this was on a channel that didn't have any other strong wifi signals on it. I did a factory reset. I reflashed the firmware then did a factory reset again. Nothing helped.

Other Thoughts: This is a piece of junk. I got it for a friend of mine because their internet connection was flaky with their old wireless router. With this router it was even worse. I took it home to test it and confirmed that this router sucks. I will likely never by a Linksys product again.
