Terrible piece of junk
Reviewed By: ray on 9/25/2009
Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: When it worked, it worked well. Easy to install.
Cons: It began dropping connection about a month after we got it. The more time that went on, the more often it dropped connection. After about 3 -4 months it wouldn't stay connected more than an hour at a time. In it's last month of life, it wouldn't stay connected 5 minutes at a time. Now it doesn't even entertain the idea of connecting. Huge disappointment.

Linux Friendly
Reviewed By: GSF1200S on 8/11/2009
Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: less than 1 day
Pros: Works with Linux natively without ndiswrapper. Have verified with WPA and below- have not tried WPA2, but the adapter supports it, and wpa_supplicant does as well.
Cons: I paid 10 bucks more than on newegg (before shipping) because I needed it ASAP. :( Depending on the distro you use, you may need to install a package or two. Of course wireless-tools, wpa_supplicant will be needed. See other thoughts...
Other Thoughts: Card has succesfully been used on Ubuntu 7.10 (old!) and Arch Linux kernel version 2.6.30. On Ubuntu 7.10 (kernel 2.6.24), it worked out of the box with no modifications necessary. On Arch linux, the modules were all loaded, however attempting to up the interface (wlan0) resulted in SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory. /var/log/messages.log showed an error in loading the firmware. Installing the firmware/package: rt2x00-rt71w-fw from the core repository immediately fixed the problem.
