If you've got more than one computer in the house, sooner or later, you'll probably need a local network of your own. And if you've got a gamer in the house, they'll want all the high-speed bandwidth they can get. Time to get a router where even the wireless runs at 108Mbps.
With four wired ports capable of running at 10/100/1000 Mbps and optimized for the gaming fan's needs, this router can feed your greed for speed. Not into games? Well, it should still do fine for heavy bandwidth applications like distributed video, while allowing your laptops the freedom to roam wherever your lap goes. The reverse SMA antenna is also removable so you can change it if you need to.
Is this the wireless router for you? Only you can decide that, but remember, we'll be waiting right here when you've made up your mind.

Excellent, high performance router
- Pros: Excellent, configurable Firmware.
Outstanding (really outstanding) Wan-To-LAN thru-put with Firewall on. This is extremely important if you have a really fast Cable or FIOS connection. With many routers you are leaving performance on the table due to limitations here. 10/100 mbit WAN port does not mean 10/100 performance. With this router, it does.
Gigabit Switch.
Wireless works great.
FAST FAST FAST! If you are after high-performance, configurability and features, this is the one.
- Cons: Gigabit port does not support Jumbo frames in firmware. Hardware is capable, but DLink has not enabled.
Some features require you to work via MAC Address. While this really isn't a problem, you need so survey your network devices and record them. It's not a big deal, and something you probably should do anyway.
While not really that difficult for more experienced users, the outright wealth of configurability in this router may be daunting for some users. However, the built-in help is excellent (for a router) and you should be able to figure it all out. Not really a Con, but it is a reality. Don't let it scare you away from this excellent product.
- Other Thoughts: Gaming router? Maybe. But I could care less about that. This is the best SoHo router I've seen short of spending 5 times this much for a Cisco or Zyxel, and those routers don't have near the performance of this one.
The Gaming features are really just well implemented, high-end QoS features (with different names), so don't let the 'Gaming' tag of this router deter you. This is NO TOY! This is a high-performance, highly configurable router that will take care of all your SoHo needs easily.
The only reason you should not consider this router is if you need inbound VPN connections.
Speaking of VPN, outbout VPN pass-thru connections work great and are fast. One thing to keep in mind. If you are using an IPSec based VPN client that supports NAT Traversal (such as Checkpoint SecureClient or SecureRemote), you will actually have to turn OFF the IPSec Pass-Thru option in the Firewall settings. That's a bit counter-intuitive and had me tripped up for a while.
Router runs very warm
- Pros: The 4 Giga port are the reason I bought this router as we have a Giga Network. The wireless 108G is easy to set up and works well.
- Cons: The first one we had started smelling like a burnt match after about 25 days; I would guess a componet failed due to the fact this router runs very warm (100 degs. F plus). Newegg was great to replace it. The unit comes with small rubber feet that easily fall off, that are easily lost and bend under the routers weight. The router's DHCP Server does not have the ablity to brodcast 2 DNS numbers to the computers on the network. Two DNS numbers are useful if you are running Windows 2003 Server and using active directroy or some other DNS server on your network.
- Other Thoughts: I think a cooling fan would have been a good idea. I would not stack anything on top of this router that would prevent it from cooling. The rubber feet could be made much better. This router lacks the features that are in our other router so we only use it as a wireless access point and Giga switch. I can see why everyone else likes this router but it does not give out the needed 2 DNS numbers for our present Giga network setup. I hope D-Link adds this in a firmware update but I do not think they will from my conversation with Tech. support.

Worked for a while, then died
- Pros: Worked reasonably well for just over a year. Wireless range was decent and gaming pings were higher than with either a low-end Netgear or Linksys unit.
- Cons: Worked reasonably well for just over a year. So it died right after the warranty expired.
- Other Thoughts: Well designed solid state electronics don't fail after a year or two; they last for 10+ years. I was happy to pay a premium for a gaming router, but D-Link obviously under-spec'ed some components.
It was good!
- Pros: The D-Link dgl-4300 worked well for the first 1yr. Second year things started to slow down.
- Cons: Died after 1yr and 8months of use. No power nothing! It was on and working the other day to stone coled and no lights today.
- Other Thoughts: So dissapointed in a product that cant last no more then 2yrs. $130 flushed down the toilet
Buy it and dont look back
- Pros: I have had this router for 3 years and it has never drooped connections. I like that i can download past a magabit and the router doesn't restart or loose connections. This thing was built for LAN parties and small businesses.
- Cons: The price but you pay for what you get
- Other Thoughts: Dont spend your time with the other hit or miss routers. Get the sure thing
