Absolutely Reliable and fairly priced
- Pros: Reliable, trouble free and easy to maintain. (there is nothing to maintain)
- Cons: configuration can be tricky the first time ... but once done you get the procedure and don't look back.
- Other Thoughts: I've used this AP in a number of client installations for a number of years without any trouble whatsoever. I have 3 at one client location using POE and they haven't been restarted or had any trouble in about 3 years!
Unreliable - Bad Firmware, Buggy Utilities
- Pros: Coverage is about what would be expected out of a device with 5dBi antennae.
- Cons: The management utilities that come with it are buggy. AP Manager II crashes constantly, and does not work properly. Do NOT attempt a firmware update using AP Manager II under any circumstances. It will brick your device every time. Also, the devices seem to randomly kick clients off the network for "unspecified" reasons (Reason Code = 1), and the client must re-associate. This pretty much makes streaming media or playing realtime games over these impossible. WDS doesn't seem to work with more than one hop between a remote AP and a wired one. Spanning tree algorithm can isolate units from the network, or get the topology wrong.
- Other Thoughts: D-Link (and everyone else for that matter) needs to stop shipping buggy firmware and software and actually TEST stuff before it goes out the door.
I have 5 of these on my property in WDS mode.
Fantastic Business AP
- Pros: I purchased this AP for our small business with 10 to 15 users when our old wireless device could not handle the load. The load balancing on this device is fantastic and I have only had to reset it a few times. The support from Belkin on it is superb as well.
- Cons: It has only one wired port so it requires configuring via a PC first and then activating on the web.
- Other Thoughts: The support from Belkin for this device is excellent. On any of their business class devices you get in quickly and talk to router technicians. Hands down the best business class device for the price.
