Securely share high-speed Internet access and files with computers, game consoles or media players from greater distances in your home or office. The D-Link Xtreme N Gigabit Router (DIR-655) lets you quickly create a secure wireless network using the latest Draft 802.11n wireless technologies offering greater range and data speeds than the older 802.11b/g standards, (when used with compatible Draft 802.11n wireless adapters) while still being fully backwards compatible with them—perfect for mixed-mode environments.
The router's MIMO (Multiple Input, Multiple Output) technology also makes it a natural choice for multimedia fanatics, minimizing errors and optimizing data speed through the use of multiple antennas for both sending and receiving.
Need to give voice, gaming, or media streaming priority over other data? The DIR-655 has integrated Intelligent QoS (quality of service) technology to do just that. The router analyzes wired and wireless traffic and separates it into multiple data streams. These streams are prioritized by sensitivity to delay, so applications like VoIP (voice over Internet protocol), video and music streaming and online gaming are given priority over Web browsing.
Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
Pros: Really impressive feature set, gigabit LAN offers a noticeable improvement over my old 10/100 wrt54g, dynamic QoS works as advertised, lots of forwarding and rules slots, excellent wireless signal and throughput
Cons: Wish it had an option to disable admin access from wireless clients, intense light levels from the LED's, but it's in an office so it doesn't really matter. rebooting after doing some routine setup is kind of a pain.
Other Thoughts: I needed a new router with wireless capability with the ability to handle a MySQL database server, a game server and still fulfill my home LAN requirements. This is like the non "|337" big brother to the dgl-4300, so instead of a lot of silly gamer specific lingo you get normal networking topics in the configuration menu -- no biggie, but made me feel better.
I've run this thing through a lot of line quality tests from dslreports and while throughput is no different, I have noticed a significant drop in latency in my first hop, and the thing handles multitudes of simultaneously connections with ease.
a great product.

Pros: The speed is great... even older pc's that have 10/100 seem to pull stuff faster. I also got some netgear gigabit switches to go with this and was surprise how cheap everything is now.
The default settings work great right out of the box for normal stuff like PS3 and PSP gaming... Only thing I had to change was a vpn setting on my PC that I had tweaked for my old router.
Firewall seems to be pretty good the setting on my vpn I had to change was to not encapsulate udp in tcp. This router detected the packets and was actively blocking them pretty smart :)
This router fixed a problem I was having with my averatec laptop and my WRT54G where it would only get 2.5mbps while connected to the internet wirelessly even though it would get 5mbps wired... yes I still only have a 5mbps internet connection but at least now I'm using everybit of it.
Cons: The first one I got was an A1 hardware version and it had a bad radio which died after being on for about 2 minutes. The next one I got was an A2 and works great. The A2 version has a WIFI Certified logo on the back of the box but the A1 does not (maybe just a time to market thing sense they both have the same firmware). The radio in this router really doesn't like interference and will be overpowered by competing signals so try playing with the channels until you find one thats good for your location... don't use the auto assign cause it will just stick it on channel 1 or 2 most of the time. There is a button on the side of the router however the firmware does not use it yet. The leds are a little more confusing than the old netgear routers but much better than the linksys.
Other Thoughts: The A1 hardware has green leds while the A2 hardware has blue leds but otherwise they look and act identical. I saw both hardware versions together on a shelf at a local store.

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: - Very attractive (I'd hit it) - Great transfer speeds over wireless - Easy to set up.
Cons: - Doesn't make me breakfast. - Maybe the price? But I won't take an egg away for that since I chose to pay it. - Otherwise nothing to note.
Other Thoughts: So far I've had no issues with the router. I read some bad reviews on here with people complaining that the wireless signal drops constantly. I haven't had the wireless drop once yet and I'm running on the "affected firmware".
If any significant developments occur I'll update my review.

Pros: good connection, speed, and range
Cons: Cant port forward
Other Thoughts: This is a good unit if you are looking for N range. It will be difficult to perform port forwarding to open up a port for p2p. For somereason, this router opens only UDP ports, but not TCP ports.

Pros: transmits both bands at same time - which is why I purchased - and it was on sale needed both bands because PS3 connects at G and Netgear USB connects at N
Cons: IT seems that I have to occasionally turn off and turn back on to get speed back. I have had D-Link routers before and have always had trouble with them. But the price when I need to replace is always so low I just cant resist buying. I hope this one lasts longer than the last
Other Thoughts: Transmit range is excellent i get consistent good signal everywhere in my house and PS netflix movie playback is good also I just wish I did not have to reset the router regularly
