Securely share high-speed Internet access and files with computers, game consoles or media players from greater distances in your home or office. The D-Link Xtreme N Gigabit Router (DIR-655) lets you quickly create a secure wireless network using the latest Draft 802.11n wireless technologies offering greater range and data speeds than the older 802.11b/g standards, (when used with compatible Draft 802.11n wireless adapters) while still being fully backwards compatible with them—perfect for mixed-mode environments.

The router's MIMO (Multiple Input, Multiple Output) technology also makes it a natural choice for multimedia fanatics, minimizing errors and optimizing data speed through the use of multiple antennas for both sending and receiving.

Need to give voice, gaming, or media streaming priority over other data? The DIR-655 has integrated Intelligent QoS (quality of service) technology to do just that. The router analyzes wired and wireless traffic and separates it into multiple data streams. These streams are prioritized by sensitivity to delay, so applications like VoIP (voice over Internet protocol), video and music streaming and online gaming are given priority over Web browsing.

  • newegg 802.11n Support Compliant with draft 802.11n, the D-Link DIR-655 delivers up to 14X faster speed and 6X farther range than 802.11g-compliant devices. The router is backward compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b devices as well.
  • newegg Intelligent QoS Technology With D-Link Intelligent QoS Technology, wired and wireless traffic is analyzed and separated into multiple data streams, which are then categorized by sensitivity to delay, so applications like VoIP, Video Streaming and Online Gaming are given priority over Web browsing. Therefore multiple applications are streamed smoothly to your TV or PC.
  • newegg Gigabit Network Connection The D-Link DIR-655 features 4 Gigabit LAN ports to provide up to 10X faster speed than most 100M network connections and excellent usability for office networks.
  • newegg Advanced Network Security The D-Link DIR-655 supports WEP, WPA and WPA2 standards for use of the best possible encryption regardless of your client devices and features built-in firewall to prevent potential attacks from across the Internet.
  • newegg Works with Windows Vista The D-Link DIR-655 has passed rigorous testing to ensure ease of use, excellent performance and enhanced security, delivering a superior experience.

5 out of 5 eggsNice unit..

Pros: Great performance, wire-line speeds quite acceptable for a consumer router (we have the radio disabled as we use a couple Linksys APs)
Handles win7 and our LAN requirements quite well
Hasn't crashed or reset on me yet. (i.e. too many connections, out of memory, etc.)

Web GUI is nice, well laid out, and very easy to use. Would like to see some higher end options as well as BW monitoring

Cons: Have to reboot after the simplest configuration change..
Not ready for IPv6 out of the box.

Other Thoughts: So far it's been a wonderful router especially compared to my almost 10 yr old SMC.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Router

Pros: Good Gigabit Router. Wireless G works as well as my old linksys router

Cons: When mixing G and N, I saw a significant speed drop in my G.

Other Thoughts: If you only use N, I think this is a great router. But I don't see everyone just using N. Still a Good router

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Get This Routor Guys!

Pros: Fast downloading, good for gaming, internet with wireless B/G is Awesome

Cons: The signal strength of the router drops from 100% to 50% if you don't put your wireless devices close to it and you may experience connection drops when your using the wireless part of the router.

Other Thoughts: Guys don't get this router if your look for a cheap router don't pick this one go with Linksys router if your looking for Gigabit and wireless N linksys, Belkin and Netgear maybe the only ones to get it right plus this has 3 antenna but still the signal strength doesn't stay above 90% The biggest rip off i ever Purchase.

1 out of 5 eggsNot worth the money

Pros: Easy setup. Decent firewall, scheduling, and other security features.

Cons: Everything else. Wireless is basically unusable. This router is so error-prone that outside of 10 feet, just forget it, so you might as well be wired. Between errors and dropped packets, I could be the only node (single wireless user) on this router and still get lousy speeds because of all of the errors encountered.

Other Thoughts: I had more luck with my previous G Linksys router. I think i'll swallow this huge mistake and go backwards to get better reliability.

5 out of 5 eggsXtremely Powerful

Pros: The price:performance ratio is superb. I have several game consoles, and at least 5 computers sharing a router at any given time, and it was putting too much stress on my old Linksys 54G. After upgrading, all my latency issues disappeared instantly. The QoS controls are intuitive and actually work! The range and speed are tremendous (before, I was barely able to get signal at the outskirts of my house; now I can pick up 5 bars of signal at my neighbor's house). The router hasn't dropped signal or reboot on me once, which is a huge relief.

Cons: The blue lights can be blinding.
Doesn't support dd-wrt.
Requires you to change some initial settings to get everything working as advertised.

Other Thoughts: The breakfast it makes me tastes like cardboard.
Also, this is the 1337th review of this product. Win.

4 out of 5 eggsNice, but needs some tweaking

Pros: - 802.11N
- Gigabit Ethernet

Cons: - Some minor connection problems in "n" mode

Other Thoughts: Overall a pretty nice router, although I did see intermittent issues with wireless connectivity. Disabling the auto-channel setting and hard-coding a specific channel made things more stable.
Disabling the "n" mode and enabling just "g" worked flawlessly, but that of course defeats the point of having a "n" router in the first place.
Did not come with the latest firmware installed, which includes some bugfixes. Firmware can be downloaded from the D-Link website.

1 out of 5 eggsWon't act as bridge

Pros: Wireless N

Cons: Overpriced for just a plain router. I bought two at work to use as a wireless bridge but it wasn't documented anywhere that Dlink removed support for this so it was a big waste of money. Never buying DLink products again. Also the setup software would froze my computer every time i tried to use it.

5 out of 5 eggsMost Router Reliable I've Owned

Pros: Reliable
Resilient
Fast

Cons: Short warranty from D-Link

Other Thoughts: I've owned a DIR-655 for a year and a half. It proved to be very reliable and having several high-def devices on my network never presented a problem for it. I even have a home server hosting files for remote use. If you combine this router with a Motorola SB6120 SURFboard, your internet connection will fly. I constantly get 60Mbps out of my 16Mbps-rated service. Unfortunately, my first one is starting to give me intermittent issues, since I moved. However, it's not the device's fault since I didn't pack it well but rather shoved it in a box with all my networking toys. I just ordered a replacement, and it is another DIR655.
