1 out of 5 eggsWhen it works. It works. When it breaks you tear your hair out.

Pros: When it works. It works great.

Cons: This thing. I owned it for over a year and every now and again it would drop the internet and the card would literally die. Your signal bars would get a red "x" over it and it would unrecoverable. You would be REQUIRED to shutdown the computer, not restart, but shutdown to re enable it. I've tired every troubleshooting I've learned and read about to avoid having to restart, but disabling the device and all of those steps never recovered it. Also the program it comes with. The D-Link Connector is so clunky it's infuriating. It doesn't disable Windows' Wireless network list so you're stuck connecting in two windows. Sometimes Windows is connecting to D-Link Wireless and then D-Link is connecting to your network. It's just very sloppy. This problem was intermittent at first, but slowly got worse.

4 out of 5 eggsYou get what you pay for doesn't always exact

Pros: Strong signal that rarely drops. One of the best PCI network adapter.

Cons: Horrible driver that causes audio distortion and crackling sounds. Quoted from a comment in D-link forum ... "DPC dropouts, most likely due to the WPA-552 performing periodical background scan activity for wireless networks, causing a hangup in the DPC queue. Interrupting device drivers from communicating with the operating system."

Other Thoughts: I didn't much of the negative comments on this product. I thought to myself that these pessimistic commenter must not be tech savvy enough to resolve whatever problem it had. I managed to solved the distortion problem by installing Atheros v9.2.0.105 driver for my respective Windows 7 64 bit Ulimate Edition. DPC Latency Checker reported: "This machine should be able to handle real-time streaming of audio and/or video data without drop-outs." It was a bit of complicated installation. Even after the Atheros driver installed, DPC Latency Checker sometimes reports: "Some device drivers on this machine behave bad and will probably cause drop-outs in real-time audio and/or video streams. To isolate the misbehaving driver use Device Manager and disable/re-enable various devices, one at a time. Try network and W-LAN adapters, modems, internal sound devices, USB host controllers, etc." However with the original DWA 552 driver one will get the aforementioned message about bad harmony continually. Noteworthy observation on "DPC Latency Checker"... Manufacturers driver will take you on the red meter often. In the other hand Atheros; its steadily green meter, sometimes yellow and rarely red. If your looking for a IT challenge, then this is your product. Thanks to this product, I learned more about wireless connectivity. If you don't got time for this nuisance, then by all means, go ahead and buy another PCI network adapter that rivals it: the Rosewill N600PCE Wireless N Dual Band Adapter is a great example. Save your self some headaches and frustration. I should of purchased the Rosewill N600PCE, but I noticed it too late. It was 20 bucks cheaper, one plus egg and better reviews. Well, I'm just glad the audio distortion isn't blatant... It was infuriating me. Lesson learned... I hope.

1 out of 5 eggs300mbps is a lie

Pros: It installs easy as long as you manually install the divers

Cons: This card will NOT connect to the DIR-655 router at 300mbps as claimed. The max is 130. Even when you set the channel width to 20/40 mhz, this card will only connect at 130.

Other Thoughts: I am extremely disappointed. This is the card the dlink recommends to go with their DIR-655 router to achieve 300mbps, but it is a complete lie. Now I am stuck with these devices I don't want because d-link are liars. I will never buy a single thing from dlink ever again.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: It worked right out of the box with win 7 and setup was easy. I watch movies at the other end of my house without a problem. Gaming work also at no dropped connection on the PS3

Cons: so far I don't have anything bad to say about the D-Link card in fact I'm buying another for my Daughter.

Other Thoughts: It worked where I had trouble trying to get a connection before. Now it gives me 100 signal from my wireless which is on the other end of the house

3 out of 5 eggsDraft 802.11N explains the price

Pros: High performance, range is rather good, especially with a good router and aftermarket antenna. It has an atheros chipset so it works with the generic drivers with much more stability than with the D-link drivers.

Cons: The triple antenna setup does little for signal range, mostly just allows it to scan more completely. This could be useful for ad hoc but little else. After 2 years, mine finally stopped connecting to access points. I should have expected this from a draft N device.

Other Thoughts: Hardly any reason to buy this unless its marked way down. I got it for $35 on another site, and I'm still not happy with that.

5 out of 5 eggsD-Link DWA-552 Xtreme Desktop Adapter

Pros: Easy Install. I have used this in multiple desktop computers over the past 3 years and have had no issues. Great for desktops away from your router/modem for no cords. I have streamed videos and played FPS games with this adapter.

Cons: Price is high for this type of product. Still 5 eggs for quality and durability over the years

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible

Pros: Expected High speed

Cons: It would not connect. It worked fine for about 3 hours with a 150mbps connection. Then just died after a system reboot and my computer wouldn't recognize it anymore.

Other Thoughts: Don't get this card.

1 out of 5 eggsAwful, AWFUL... Piece of Hardware

Pros: 3 antennae, I guess.

Cons: Did not work in my new build. Would refuse to work with latest drivers, and kept telling me that it was an unknown device in Device Manager.
In order to download the driver for this hunk of junk, the PCI card needs to already be inserted into the PCI slot, while this is easy to do, it is annoying as hell when its device software tells me that its not inserted and will not install the drivers needed for it to be recognized until it IS inserted.

Absolute piece of junk, I thought I could trust D'link, but will now be taking my WiFI purchase to a difference manufacturer. Sorry, D'link.

2 out of 5 eggsDrivers still not fixed for this

Pros: -Has great range

Cons: -Driver causes audio to stutter

Other Thoughts: This card would work perfectly if D-Link had ever addressed the audio stutter issue. I use this card on my Win 7 64-bit system with a Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3 motherboard. I bought this card recently when my old one was causing my system to lock up. At first it was great, but within an hour I noticed my audio started to skip.

I've run every test with the drivers and even turned some off, the only one that fixed the stuttering issue when turned off was this network card. A bit of research online revealed that D-Link knows about the issue but they have never fixed it. Shame, too, since this card gets a solid network connection.

So beware to anyone looking for this card. It'll get you some solid range, but the audio stuttering problem will drive you insane.
