Not worth the money
- Pros: 8 ports and good features.
- Cons: I'm a computer technician and I had some problems getting the VPN to work reliably. In any even, this router quit working one year and one month after I bought it. It just went dead for no apparent reason. The warranty is only good for one year, so I'm out of luck. I wouldn't recommend buying this router.
- Other Thoughts: A router at this price range should last longer than 13 months.
Not Worth It
- Pros: Does what a normal router should do. Full PPTP VPN support so clients don't need 3rd party software for IPsec computer-to-router VPN sessions. DHCP IP reservations by MAC address.
- Cons: VPN only works when it feels like it. Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 tries to connect and sometimes connections are dropped after an hour or so. Even after the firmware updates the UI is horrible and the current DHCP client lists don't seem to update or refresh properly.
- Other Thoughts: Not worth it. This thing is too expensive considering how bad it performs. I'm a sys admin so I thought everyone else who was leaving bad reviews maybe didn't configure it properly, but this just really just works when it feels like it.
Inexpensive 8 port wired Router
- Pros: * 10/100 wired Ports
- Cons: I tired to upgrade the firmware and the unit bricked. Sent to D-Link who replaced it.
- Other Thoughts: My home is wired in jut about every room, so a wired router was important to me (I do have a wireless access point for wireless). This unit was inexpensive and is doing the job.
I don't reall need the VPN functions.
